Continue ReadingRecruits have been uploading their early season highlights from all over the state. There were five specific offensive prospects that really stood out to me last week. I am confident these five players’ early production will cement them as high risers this fall. Below, I detail the next level traits I saw during last week’s games.
Jabari Booth
Jabari Booth
Jabari Booth is a two-sport athlete coaches hope will use his track skills for their offense next season. I am surprised Jabari holds no offers with the way he is able to create with the ball in his hands. Watch for that to change before his high school career ends this fall. Jabari showed his playmaking ability with a highlight reel bubble screen that went for a touchdown. Good quickness showed beating defenders laterally, while Jabari’s burst allowed him to accelerate down the sidelines untouched for a score. Jabari displayed strong hands and the ability to absorb contact when making a tough catch running up the seam; A well-rounded skillset highlights his versatility at the next level.
Devin Holt Devin Holt 6’2″ | 185 lbs | WR Rock Bridgr | 2025 State MO has been making huge gains for Rock Bridge’s offense all season. The dynamic wide receiver has been to multiple camps and most recently was invited to a game at Pittsburg State. Expect his first offer to get here before this season ends. Devin’s explosiveness shows quickly gaining vertical separation on deep routes, while good athleticism and tracking ability gets displayed adjusting at the catchpoint to make tough back shoulder grabs. Devin’s speed shows taking routine, underneath catches for long distances, but his lateral quickness and good vision allow him to consistently shake defenders in small spaces. Coaches like Devin’s effort and physicality as a blocker. Devin’s experience in the slot, at X, and understanding of spacing locks him in as one of the most college-ready receivers in central Missouri.
Jackson Torry Jackson Torry 5’10” | 185 lbs | DB Lee’s Summit West | 2024 State MO has been producing for all three phases of Lee Summit West’s football team this fall. Jackson is a versatile prospect but the quickness, route running ability, and toughness over the middle have me thinking there may be some competition amongst recruiters to see whether he plays DB or receiver in college. Jackson displayed good athleticism adjusting at the catchpoint and next level strength & toughness absorbing contact during two of his touchdowns last Friday night. Flashes of acceleration and good power showed running through traffic as a ball carrier. Jackson understands spacing well and displays good quickness shaking defenders laterally. Watch for his list of eight offers to grow even longer this fall.
Briggs Hughston Briggs Hughston 6’6″ | 230 lbs | WR West Plains | 2024 State MO has been one of the most prolific playmakers out of southern Missouri this season. The Northern Iowa commit had three touchdowns last Friday, so I am still betting on coaches in the region to keep wishing Briggs will flip his commitment and join their offense next year. Briggs’ rare combination of size, speed, and power showed stiff-arming a DB to the ground before burning the rest of the defense down the sideline for a short catch turned huge score. Briggs shows good balance and quick feet when forced to beat defenders one on one in space. Briggs’ size, strength, and athletic ability will continue to shine this fall and prove why he is one of the most versatile pass catchers in the 2024 class.
Highlights
Payton Brown Payton Brown 6’1″ | 215 lbs | LB Hillsboro | 2024 State MO scored as a receiver, returner, and running back for Hillsboro last week. Evaluators will be sure to have him shooting up their running back lists when they see how Payton shredded North County’s defense. Payton’s receiving ability flashed on his first touchdown last week; Good quickness showed gaining separation on an easy slant pitch & catch, while his next level acceleration allowed him to take a short gain all the way to the endzone for an uninterrupted score. Payton’s great combination of vision, balance, quickness, and strength allow him to navigate crowded run boxes and produce in unfavorable circumstances. Keep an eye out for more schools in the state and surrounding Missouri to offer Payton before his high school career has finished.
