committed to Southeast Missouri State University this week. The local product is sure to have more recruiters come calling late after a dominant senior season. Payton’s rare combination of size, strength, and explosiveness gives him the potential to produce between the tackles for years to come in a college offense. A good combination of lateral quickness and instincts gets displayed when Payton escapes through tiny creases after the point of attack gets disrupted. Payton shows solid hands and good top speed gaining vertical separation out of the slot; Good acceleration shown running bubble screens highlights Payton’s potential to be a receiving threat at the next level.

scored as a receiver, returner, and running back for Hillsboro last week. Evaluators will be sure to have him shooting up their running back lists when they see how Payton shredded North County’s defense. Payton’s receiving ability flashed on his first touchdown last week; Good quickness showed gaining separation on an easy slant pitch & catch, while his next level acceleration allowed him to take a short gain all the way to the endzone for an uninterrupted score. Payton’s great combination of vision, balance, quickness, and strength allow him to navigate crowded run boxes and produce in unfavorable circumstances. Keep an eye out for more schools in the state and surrounding Missouri to offer Payton before his high school career has finished.

is an intriguing prospect from Hillsboro High School who may be recruited at multiple positions. Payton went on a Junior Day visit to Ball State earlier this year. It will be interesting to see who recruits Payton and at what position as the year goes on.
Payton’s physical running style shows searching for contact and punishing defenders in the open field. Power shows as a lead blocker while Payton’s strength consistently shows in his finish. Solid hands, athleticism as an open field tackler and physicality as a lead blocker adds value to Payton’s recruitment as a collegiate hybrid TE.
