After breaking down some explosive running backs that have made their presence known, it’s time to explore the wide receiver position and evaluate some talented junior playmakers. Without any further ado, here’s my list of some intriguing 2025 wide receivers in the Volunteer State to watch for in week six of competition.
Highlights
At the top of my list of notable performers is Radarious Jackson Radarious Jackson 6'3" | 185 lbs | WR Sheffield | 2025 State TN , a 6-foot-2, 185-pound wide receiver at Sheffield High School. Jackson and the Knights are coming off a recent 41-36 victory over Bolton last Thursday. In addition to his efficiency along the edge, what stands out about Jackson is his ability to march down the field and use his deceptive footwork and speed to avoid defensive contact. I also like Jackson’s positioning and ability to be a quick and reliable passing target in third-down scenarios. Another aspect of Jackson’s playstyle that impresses is his ability to elevate off the ground to haul in challenging passes in the endzone.

I am additionally impressed with Max Kimpel Max Kimpel 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Ravenwood | 2025 State TN , a 6-foot-2, 175-pound wide receiver at Ravenwood High School. Kimpel and the Raptors were unstoppable last week, blasting past Overton 49-7. In addition to excellent size and breakaway speed, what makes Kimpel so explosive is his ability to haul in challenging passes despite heavy defensive coverage down the stretch. I’m also fond of Kimpel’s movement, pushing off defenders to quickly get open for passes. Along the edge, Kimpel can blast into the backfield and muscle the opposition to the ground with his commanding strength to remain open for deep passes.

Claiming the number three spot on my list is Jayden Elliott Jayden Elliott 5'10" | 160 lbs | WR Creek Wood | 2025 TN , a 5-foot-10, 160-pound wide receiver at Creek Wood High School. Elliott and the Red Hawks were successful last week, defeating Whites Creek by a final score of 14-6. What impresses me about Elliott is his ability to catch quick passes and muscle past the defense, utilizing his durable edge and physical build to stay on his feet under pressure. Elliott’s breakaway speed also stands out, proving he can quickly get open for deep passes. Elliott’s aggressive movement and footwork also give him the advantage, showing off his ability to barrel past defenders in the backfield and takes it to the house.

Another skilled prospect to keep an eye on is Britton Barrett Britton Barrett 5'11" | 175 lbs | WR Maryville | 2025 State TN , a 5-foot-11, 155-pound wide receiver at Maryville High School. Barrett and the Red Rebels are coming off a 37-18 win over Science Hill last week. What makes Barrett an efficient offensive weapon is his ability to advance offensive production in crucial moments, showcasing his ability to catch quick passes shortly after the snap. I’m additionally fond of Barrett’s toughness and ability to handle contact. Barrett’s ability to maneuver the field and breakaway from coverage also impresses, utilizing his quickness and route-running ability to break tackles and escape into the backfield.

Coming in at number five on my list is Donovan Higgins Donovan Higgins 5'11" | 175 lbs | WR Pearl Cohn | 2025 State TN , a 5-foot-11, 175-pound wide receiver at Pearl Cohn High School. Higgins and the Firebirds defended their undefeated record last week with a 61-0 blowout win over Montgomery Central. In addition to excellent size, speed and versatility down the stretch, what makes Higgins so dangerous is his footwork and calculated movement, finding openings in the pocket and space in the backfield to break free of the defense and rush into the endzone. Higgins also contributes explosive speed, proving he can catch deep passes and consistently leave the defense in the dust.
Also worth mentioning is Waylon LaRue Waylon LaRue 5'8" | 160 lbs | WR Anderson Co. | 2025 State TN , a 5-foot-8, 160-pound wide receiver at Anderson County High School. LaRue and the Mavericks were unstoppable last week, claiming a 51-7 blowout win over Seymour. With great size, speed and physicality down the stretch, LaRue has proven he can stun the defense with his footwork and quickness, make quick catches, stay on his feet under pressure and use the edge to escape into the backfield. Another aspect of LaRue’s playstyle that stands out is his ability to juke out the defense and get open for deep passes.
