Here's a look at some of the very impressive wide receivers and defensive backs from the tryout.

He was easily the tallest wide receiver at the third session of the day, which showcased quarterbacks, wide receivers and defensive backs. Did a good job at high-pointing the football and gave the quarterbacks a nice window to throw the ball too. I don't think he's a shoe-in to make the team by any means, but with his size there's a future in football (or baseball, his other sport) if he continues to sharpen his skills.","_player_evaluations_0_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_1_player":["1020465"],"_player_evaluations_1_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_1_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_1_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_1_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_1_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_1_evaluation":"There's a lot to be really excited about when it comes to [player_tooltip player_id='1020465' first='Khalyd' last='Goodman-Ware'] out of the Asbury Park program. He's unofficially listed at 5-foot-7 and 140 pounds and was one of the clear stars of the tryout this past weekend. Whether he was lined up as a corner or a slot receiver he was winning the rep. Was hand-timed at a 4.51 in the forty with pads and a helmet on. Kid has that u0022itu0022 factor about him and was a lightning rod of attention with his good personality. I think it's a slam dunk he makes the 14U All-Star team and I can see him being a lock down corner, slot receiver the coaches can get creative with and/or a weapon in the return game. Could be a future big time prospect if tacks on some more size over the next few years.","_player_evaluations_1_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_2_player":["1020479"],"_player_evaluations_2_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_2_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_2_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_2_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_2_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_2_evaluation":"Juliani was one of the few 6-footer's (or close to 6-foot) in attendance at the tryout and he was impressive. One of the most natural, pure pass-catchers I saw all day. The Manalapan product runs very smooth routes and excels on intermediate and deep ball routes. Uses his hands to catch passes away from his body and quickly gets north and south. On a team that appears like they'll have a bunch of wideouts with average size, he will be one of the bigger bodies if he's selected.","_player_evaluations_2_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_3_player":["1020538"],"_player_evaluations_3_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_3_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_3_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_3_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_3_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_3_evaluation":"Toms River's [player_tooltip player_id='1020538' first='Kamren' last='McBride'] was piece of the puzzle on the 12U All-Star team that won the AYF National All-Star Tournament a year ago and from what I saw at the tryout, he'll be back at it again this year with the 14U squad. At this stage of football I'd be willing to be that 9-out-of-10 kids asked, would say they rather be a wide receiver than a defensive backu002du002dbut not McBride. While, yes, he can play on the offensive side of the ball (like in the feature image above), he's truly a corner back through and through. At the tryout I noticed he has become a bit more physical than when I last saw him play in December. Throughout the tryout session, McBride and [player_tooltip player_id='1020465' first='Khalyd' last='Goodman-Ware'] had a few excellent and competitive one-on-one reps.","_player_evaluations_3_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_4_player":["1020598"],"_player_evaluations_4_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_4_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_4_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_4_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_4_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_4_evaluation":"Freehold's [player_tooltip player_id='1020598' first='Austin' last='Medley'] is another prospect that made the 12U All-Star team a year ago and did an excellent job in Florida at AYF Nationals; In fact, he was one of seven prospects that caught my eye from that team last December. As for this year's tryout, Medley was again a standout. I have him listed as an athlete (ATH) because he lines up everywhere (including quarterback) during the regular season, but he looks like a future standout as a receiver. In the neighborhood of 5-foot-10 and 135 pounds (unofficial), I didn't see him not come up with a catchable ball the whole time. He'll be a solid weapon on the outside for this 14U team.","_player_evaluations_4_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_5_player":["1014560"],"_player_evaluations_5_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_5_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_5_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_5_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_5_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_5_evaluation":"Mahoney brought an element of toughness and physicality to the the third and final session of the tryout this past weekend. Three athletes from Howell tried out and Mahoney completes the trilogy of the prospects earning recognition, alongside [player_tooltip player_id='910821' first='Brock' last='Goodman'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1014507' first='Tim' last='O'Rourke']. Mahoney had pretty good size at 5-foot-10 and 145-pounds (unverified) and did some positive things on both sides of the ball. As mentioned a few sentences ago, did a good job with physical play on both sides of the ball. Almost had a linebacker-like mentality in pass coverage and tight end-like skill set when battling to get open on offense. I'm not sure if he'll make the team or not, but there is a future here.","_player_evaluations_5_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_6_player":["1020725"],"_player_evaluations_6_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_6_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_6_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_6_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_6_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_6_evaluation":"Add Love to the list of athletes who made the 12U All-Star team a year ago, who came back out last weekend to earn an opportunity to play for the 14U All-Star team. Love isn't the biggest kid in the world but had a number of nice pass breakups on the day. He, like [player_tooltip player_id='1020538' first='Kamren' last='McBride'] of Toms River, strike me as two of the pure corner's that came out for the team. While in Florida for the National tournament last year, Love came up with a big interception that helped put the championship on ice for the Jersey Shore AYF All-Stars. At the tryout he did a good job of closing on the ball and not letting many wideouts get hands on the ball without him being a pest.","_player_evaluations_6_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_7_player":["1020966"],"_player_evaluations_7_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_7_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_7_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_7_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_7_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_7_evaluation":"Like [player_tooltip player_id='1020725' first='Deven' last='Love'] listed above, [player_tooltip player_id='1020966' first='Dominic' last='Rodriguez'] had a very good showing at the tryout, and is also a prospect out of the St. Barts youth program. Rodriguez is also on the smaller side but he played like a kid much bigger than his size. As a defensive back he played with very disciplined feet and fluid hips when transitioning from his back pedal to running with receivers in their routes. Flipping it to offense, he did a solid job of creating separation and did everything in his power to bring the ball in.","_player_evaluations_7_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_8_player":["1021048"],"_player_evaluations_8_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_8_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_8_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_8_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_8_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_8_evaluation":"Joining his fellow Freehold teammate [player_tooltip player_id='1020598' first='Austin' last='Medley'] in this write up, [player_tooltip player_id='1021048' first='Michael' last='Figueroa Jr.'] also had a strong showing at the tryout last Saturday. Didn't do one thing exceptionally well, but did a lot of things at a pretty good level. More than anything else, showed off dependable hands if he was able to get open. Not the biggest (nor, the smallest) and not the fastest, there are some basic athletic traits he can improve to get him to the next level. However, with that said, he's a kid that looks like he could become something on Friday nights if he keeps the pedal down and works.","_player_evaluations_8_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations_9_player":["1021116"],"_player_evaluations_9_player":"field_62ab9d62ecf2c","player_evaluations_9_override_profile_image":"","_player_evaluations_9_override_profile_image":"override-player-profile-image","player_evaluations_9_not_in_database":"","_player_evaluations_9_not_in_database":"field_62aba48cecf2d","player_evaluations_9_evaluation":"Rounding out the prospects that caught my eye at the tryout, [player_tooltip player_id='1021116' first='Anthony' last='Serini'] out of Holmdel looked the part. Don't have official measurements on him, but comes with pretty good height and an athletic frame that can hold a good amount of extra weight and muscle mass. Overall body control and core strength really stood out on some poorly thrown footballs, regardless of what side of the ball he was lining up on. In the game film I've watched from this year, he lines up as a quarterback and keeps the ball himself on most snapsu002du002dbeing the top athlete on the field. Also can play linebacker and safety on the defensive side. I'm a big fan right now.","_player_evaluations_9_evaluation":"field_62aba51aecf34","player_evaluations":10,"_player_evaluations":"field_62aba7547dc44"},"mode":"edit","alignText":"left","anchor":"acf-block-6515c3a3e657a"} /-->

Additional Wide Receiver and Defensive Back Tryout Notes

George Campbell | Athlete | Toms River - Was having a pretty good tryout on the defensive side of the ball until an ankle injury derailed things about 2/3 of the way through the tryout. Brought some good size to the field, almost looked like a linebacker. Got lost in coverage a few times, but there is some potential.

[player_tooltip player_id='1172700' first='Austin' last='Vandenbos'] | Tight End | Berkeley - Vandenbos made the 12U All-Star team a year ago and there's a possibility he makes the 14U team this year. One of the few kids at the tryout that I would tag as a tight end, he has a lot of the tools but must improve his hands to reach his potential. Getting open, speed and power all pass the test--but inconsistency catching the ball is what tripped me up at the tryout. Maybe he's a linebacker or defensive end long term? Ton of physical tools to work with, just needs to work on hands.

Zach Silverman | Defensive Back | Freehold - Gave up considerable size at the tryout, but wasn't afraid to step up and jam receivers at the line of scrimmage. Brought some undersized toughness to the position and the ability to stay in the pocket of receivers, as they got into their route.

Cameron Learperl | Defensive Back | Toms River - Yet another Toms River kid who did a good job during the tryout last weekend. Had pretty good length for a corner and was able to give the smaller guys a tough time, as they tried to get off the line of scrimmage.

Owen Hart | Athlete | Point Pleasant - A really tough athlete who I would take on my youth team any day of the week. Could see a fit for him as a strong safety or nickel type on defense with his speed and fearless play while crashing down against the run. Looking at clips from the regular season, he has lined up as a defensive end, wide receiver, linebacker and on special teams. Keep an eye on Hart.
