Continue ReadingEvery scholarship football team usually has one undersized dynamic slot/scatback type of player on the roster. I took the liberty of highlighting five of my favorite Western PA Little Big Slots in this article. Colleges always want a Tyreek Hill or an Andrew Hawkins, but they’re usually too scared to pull the trigger on these players due to their measurements. Scoop Smith Scoop Smith 5'5" | ATH Woodland Hills | 2026 State PA and Samir Crosby Samir Crosby 5'10" | 170 lbs | ATH Greensburg Central Catholic | 2026 State PA both have at least one FBS scholarship, but both of their opportunities should continue to grow. The question is, what other “Little Big Slots” are there on the western side of the state? Besides Crosby and Smith, players such as Daniel Cain Daniel Cain 5'8" | WR University Prep | 2024 State PA , Cameron Epps Cameron Epps 5'7" | 145 lbs | ATH South Allegheny | 2025 State PA , and Dom Monz Dom Monz 5'8" | 150 lbs | ATH Seton LaSalle | 2024 State PA should also be on the radar for scholarship college football.

Scoop is one of the top slots in his class from Pennsylvania. The dynamo athlete already has FBS football offers to UNLV, Nebraska, Toledo, and Stony Brook, and Lincoln Memorial for hoops. I love Smith’s catch-and-run ability. He finished week 0 with 5 receptions for 100 receiving yards and a score in the 43-7 defeat from WPIAL rivals Pittsburgh Central Catholic. Scoop is a threat wherever he lines up and has the toughness to break tackles, as well as the type of quickness that embarrasses DBs. If he wasn’t on your radar already, be sure to check the “little big slot” out all throughout 2023.
Cam rushed for 229 yards on 25 carries for 3 TDs in the Week 0 opener. I believe Cam has all the makings of a college slot WR. He’s 5’7, effortlessly quick, elusive with speed. Similar to Scoop Smith Scoop Smith 5’5″ | ATH Woodland Hills | 2026 State PA , his point guard hooping ability translates well to the gridiron. He played full-time in the slot his sophomore year and was dangerous on seam verticals, spot screens, and direct snaps. Epps is clearly the most dynamic player on South Allegheny’s team; hence, him now playing the RB position. I still believe this “little big slot” will play in the slot collegiately. He’s only a junior, but worth keeping tabs on in ‘23.

Dom had his 2022 season cut short due to injury. Now he’s back and displaying his slot capabilities. In a 42-14 Week 0 opening win vs. Chartiers Valley, Dom caught 5 passes for 103 yards and 2 scores. I was impressed with Monz’s performance because most of his 100+ receiving yards were yards after the catch. The 5’8, 170-pound slot has been clocked in the 4.4-4.5 range and has good body control exhibited on a long rocket screen that went for a score. I’m excited to see how much damage Monz will inflict on defenses this year. Keep your eyes peeled when this “little big slot” has the ball.

Samir is another well-known commodity on the Prep Redzone PA platform. The 5’7 slot hauled in 7 receptions for 153 yards and a TD vs. Mt Pleasant in a 37-24 Week 0 victory. Crosby isn’t unknown since he currently has one offer to FBS UNLV. He’s an athlete on both sides of the ball and trouble for whomever guards him. Crosby runs crisp routes with tremendous lateral mobility and straight-line speed. His latest performance proves what I saw at the 2 Tenths Top 150 camp was no fluke. He eats up cushions and makes defenders whiff in the open field. This “little big slot” will be making highlight reels all season long.
