My two biggest takeaways from growing up in that area is that New York City is widely thought of as a basketball city (for good reason) and that there’s a common misconception that New York is the five boroughs of the city. However, that couldn’t be further from the truth; The Empire State has football talent too, and the state is significantly bigger than most realize. Prep Redzone Next is here to help shine a light on some of the freshmen to know about in Tennessee this upcoming season. Not all will play varsity right away, and some of the athletes below may have already peaked athletically in football. On the other hand, there may be (probably will be) glaring omissions from the list below–and that’s the beauty of it. This is a Watchlist based off athletes we have either watched on film or in person during their pre-high school careers.
The only player officially ranked in every state will be who we perceive as being the top prospect in the state for the class, coming out of middle school. In New York, that 2027 prospect is Running Back, Kory Brown Kory Brown 5'7" | 160 lbs | RB Tottenville | 2027 State NY . All other players will be listed as WL for Watchlist.
The first comprehensive and official New York High School rankings for the class of 2027 will be released by Prep Redzone New York.
New York’s No.1 2027 Prospect: Kory Brown Kory Brown 5'7" | 160 lbs | RB Tottenville | 2027 State NY | Running Back | Tottenville
Kory Brown Kory Brown 5’7″ | 160 lbs | RB Tottenville | 2027 State NY is a different animal when it comes to speed, strength and explosion in athletes just getting set to start their freshman season. After leading the Staten Island Lions to the Pop Warner National Championship Tournament, the do-it-all back has seen his stock rise tremendously during the off-season. While I initially saw and covered him about him about a year ago, it was during the Prep Redzone Next camp this past winter that saw him explode. He ran a mind-blowing 4.47 (hand-timed) in the forty at the camp–twice. I called that collection of backs that most talented group we’ve ever had at a PRZ Next camp, and he walked away with MVP. Since that January afternoon, he’s gone on to pick up his first offer from Rutgers University. More recently, he also cleaned up at the 2023 USATF National Youth Outdoor Championship in June, taking first in the 200M (21.96) and 100M (10.62)–the latter being a personal record. Brown is one of the fastest young men in the country and is our No.1 prospect in New York for the class of 2027.
