Below are a the standout and clutch performers from the game’s 29th rendition.
The Quarterback from Passaic concluded his high school career in thrilling fashion. Trailing 10-6 with less than a minute left in the game, the signal caller plowed ahead for a rushing score from 1-yard out with 17 seconds left in the game to lift the West to a 13-10 lead. This score would put ahead the West for good and was the game winning score.
Setting up Rojas’ eventual game-winning score was the big time play from Isaiah Holm. The Montclair Mountie came up with a huge interception deep in his team’s own red zone. This pick was returned for 57 yards and the ensuing game-winning drive. Holm earned defensive MVP for the West squad.
The offensive MVP for Team East was Hillside’s Caleb Salters. For the game Salters was 8 for 18 with 128 yards. In a see-saw battle, Salters quarterbacked an 8 play, 59 yard drive which was capped off by his 1-yard touchdown plunge. After the West took the lead with 17 seconds to go, Salters gave the East a puncher’s chance, connecting with receiver Khy’Ron Hill for 3 straight completions. That drive ended at the opponents 35 yard line before time ultimately expired.
Offensive MVP for the West was Randolph’s Sean Clark. Clark went 6 of 12 for 96 yards through the air and connected on the game’s only passing touchdown. That touchdown, thrown to Passaic Tech’s Michael Kiritsis, opened the game’s scoring at 6-0 for the West squad.
A Clifton Mustang, Pitts came up with huge play after huge play. Prior to Rojas’ game winning run, Pitts made a critical 3rd-and-goal stuff from the 1-yard line to force 4th down with just about 30 seconds to play. He also registered a sack and numerous other clutch tackles. He was the West’s Defensive MVP.
