Saturday morning and early afternoon were filled with the excitement of the Broncos high school 7-on-7 tournament and linemen challenge hosted at the Centura Health Training Center in Englewood, Colorado.
With more than 20 teams in attendance for the 7-on-7 tournament, there was ample opportunity to observe various athletes and their progress during the offseason as they prepare for the fall. This article will briefly summarize the final four teams in the 7-on-7 tournament and a few of their players.
The Championship
The tournament was won by Ralston Valley after a comfortable win over the second-placed Erie Tigers. The Mustangs played through a challenging bracket, defeating teams like Valor Christian and Fairview en route to the final match. Logan Madden (2024 QB) is the fourth-ranked QB who led his team with an outstanding performance during the event. He showed off his arm strength and accuracy by dropping deep throws in the baskets of his receivers and putting the right amount of zip on the ball for short and intermediate routes. Teammates Jackson Hansen (2024 WR) and Liam Beatie (2025 WR/ATH) also stood out during the event, with Hansen being a difference-maker on both sides of the ball.
For Erie, Blake Barnett Blake Barnett 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB Erie | 2024 State CO (2024) is a generational talent at quarterback who committed to Kansas State early in the year. The dual-threat QB helped lead his team to the finals by putting on impressive performances on both sides of the ball, clocking time as the starting free safety for the Tigers. Alex Sweeney (2024 WR) and Braylon Toliver Braylon Toliver 5'11" | 175 lbs | ATH Erie | 2026 CO (2026 RB/SS) are two of several Tigers who continued to shine throughout the competition, reinforcing the firepower within the Erie arsenal.
The Semifinals Runner-Ups
The Columbine Rebels made it to the final four before falling to the Erie Tigers. For a program not known for throwing the ball much, the Rebels had an outstanding showing throughout the event. Reeve Holliday (2024 QB) popped up on the radar during the tournament because of his exceptional abilities as a passer and game manager, stemming from his deep understanding of the system. Mason Moreno (2024 ATH) and James Basinger James Basinger 5'10" | 195 lbs | RB Columbine | 2025 State CO (2025 RB/SS) are two-way players whose off-season 7-on-7 work looked to carry over into their competitions with their team. In addition to landing in the final four of the 7s tournament, Columbine won the linemen challenge for the third consecutive year in a row.
Fairview entered the event fresh off a 7-on-7 tournament win at the University of Colorado and quickly became the team to beat before falling to Ralston Valley in a nail-biting overtime match. Rowan Risner Rowan Risner 6'2" | 195 lbs | QB Fairview | 2024 State CO (2024 QB) had a good performance during the tournament, showing that he knows when to be risk-averse and when to go for the gusto. His ball placement on back-shoulder throws is very impressive, while the trust he places in his receivers is admirable. Jace Hines (2024 WR/DB) and Jordan Rechel Jordan Rechel 5'11" | 165 lbs | WR Fairview | 2025 State CO (2025 WR/ATH) were two of the many standouts on a scrappy Fairview team that should easily make a quarterfinals appearance this fall.
