The 2023 football season is right around the corner and at the conclusion of spring practices across Oklahoma, it’s a perfect time to update the prospect rankings! We started this week with the state’s 2026 class and went from a Top 25 to a Top 50. If you missed that update, you can check out the list right here! Throughout the week, we’re diving deep into the rankings with prospect breakdowns. We’re discussing why these players are already on our radar and already on the radar for the next level. Keep it locked in throughout the week as we break down more 2026 prospects. And check back each Monday this month for a new ranking update! Next week, we’ll be updating the 2025 class.
In this breakdown, we’re putting a spotlight on the skill position players on the offensive side of the ball. The running backs and wide receivers have already made a significant impact in the state’s 2026 class and their careers are just getting underway. For some of these prospects, they broke out last season, for others, they seem primed for breakout seasons this fall. Either way, we should see some really good production from this group of players when the 2023 football season gets underway.
We covered Valliant running back Kenny Golston Kenny Golston 6’1″ | 210 lbs | RB Valliant | 2026 State OK earlier this offseason during our “Friday Film Review” series and the week that we watched Golston’s film, it was hands down the best of the bunch. In fact, compared to a lot of 2026 prospects, Golston would be up there in terms of impressing when the ball was in his hands. That’s why he’s a borderline top ten prospect and the top rated running back in this latest update. We could see him continuing to climb the rankings and being a borderline top five prospect. Golston is an extremely strong running back but he’s not just a power back. He showed plenty of times last year that he beat teams with speed and quickness.

Hugo standout Quincy Shelton Quincy Shelton 6’0″ | WR Hugo | 2026 State OK has firmly established himself as one of the top two-sport athletes in the state’s 2026 class. On our basketball site Prep Hoops Oklahoma, Shelton was recently ranked as a top five overall prospect in the state’s 2026 class at the guard position. In football, Shelton continues to be one of the higher ranked offensive playmakers as well in football. And Shelton plays on both sides of the ball in football but it feels like his top position is at the wide receiver spot. But as we mentioned earlier this week, there is so much football left to be played. Labeling Shelton as a wide receiver and wide receiver only would be a mistake at this point. But he’s electric with the ball in his hands.
We really like the upside that Choctaw running back Mayor Morgan Mayor Morgan 5’6″ | 170 lbs | RB Choctaw | 2026 State OK has moving forward with Choctaw. The Yellowjackets need to find a playmaker to replace La’Trell Ray, who was an impact player for Choctaw for three seasons. Morgan definitely has the potential to be that player that is utilized in the Choctaw backfield at running back and even split out and play some wide receiver. We got a chance to see Morgan in person a few times this offseason. The first time he stood out was at our camp back in January as he impressed some of his positional coaches. Then last month at Choctaw’s team camp, Morgan showed that explosiveness and playmaking ability at a few different spots on offense.

Out of all the prospects on this breakdown, we know the least about Union’s Tayveon Parry Tayveon Parry 5’11” | RB Union | 2026 OK but we are looking forward to seeing more this fall. Parry first got on our radar just a few weeks ago at the Bixby team camp. He was taking reps at running back and it appears that the expectation is that Parry will get some meaningful carries for the Union offense this fall. Like Choctaw, Union also has to replace a very productive and dynamic running back and the Redhawks might use a few different players to replace that production. Parry impressed us in Bixby and we’re looking forward to seeing what he does this season. Since he won’t be the only back in the backfield, he should be fresh when he hits the field.
Staying at the running back position for our next prospect with Apache 2026 standout Dayton Scott Dayton Scott 5’11” | 175 lbs | RB Apache | 2026 State OK as we get some more small school standouts on this breakdown. Scott had an outstanding freshman season a year ago and he seems to be primed for bigger and brighter things moving forward. He’s a strong running back that wasted no time getting his varsity career off with a bang last season. We’re looking forward to seeing the continued progression this season. Apache has a few young prospects that we’re going to be keeping an eye on this season and they should be one of the better teams in Class A. With Scott toting the rock, they’ll be a threat to go far.

We say this every time we do a ranking update. This is not a perfect science and there are going to be mistakes made. That said, Lawton MacArthur standout Adam Auston Adam Auston 6’2″ | 200 lbs | DB Lawton MacArthur | 2026 State OK should be listed as a wide receiver and he’ll be listed as such in the next update. Nevertheless, Auston belongs on this breakdown because he is one of the young playmakers on the offensive side of the ball. He’s another playmaker that appears to be just scratching the surface on what he can be. He’s incredibly advanced for his age and does some things that we didn’t see from other receivers in the 2026 class. We really like this Lawton Mac team after checking them out in person last month.

Similar to Morgan and Parry earlier, Edmond Memorial wide receiver Santorrio Boykins Santorrio Boykins 6’3″ | WR Edmond Memorial | 2026 State OK is just waiting for his moment to have that breakout season under the bright lights of Friday nights. Boykins definitely looks the part of film and appears to have all the physical tools to be a legitimate weapon in Edmond Memorial’s passing attack. The Bulldogs are going to benefit from having one of the top quarterbacks in Class 6A-1 this season so having some playmakers at wide receiver is going to be critical. We still want to see what Boykins can do week to week at the varsity level but he definitely has the potential to be a breakout player for the Bulldogs this fall.
