PRZTN Spring Showcase MVP’s (Player Breakdown)
In this article:
Sunday afternoon down in Murfreesboro, Tennessee brought out some serious talent to the Prep Redzone Showcase but only a handful of prospects were able to be named Most Valuable Player at their position and these guys below certainly stood out, earning the MVP honor!
Other prospects throughout had stellar performances as well and those guys will be talked about but these prospects earned the first write up and accolades after standing out at Sunday’s Showcase.
QB MVP
Griffin Hanson – Mars Hill (AL)
– Athletic and fast with position versatility, Hanson took to quarterback on Sunday where those traits showed out but the Alabama passer also displayed solid work throwing the ball, in turn landing QB MVP. The Mars Hill senior quarterback displayed decisive, timely passing while also providing some zip as well. Hanson only stands about 5’10 and 175 pounds and while he earned the MVP honors for the quarterback position, his speed and overall athleticism is what stood out the most to me. His build and body movements tells me Hanson could develop into an excellent slot receiver or safety prospect on the collegiate gridiron. For Sunday however, it was his quarterback play that gave his MVP honors and definitely something Hanson can build on headed into summer camp season.
RB MVP
Tyson Wolcott – Friendship Christian
– Wolcott had a bit of a breakout season last year as the star running back for his Commanders state title team and he looked in prime condition on Sunday as not only the MVP for his position but one of the top overall offensive performers from the combine. Wolcott is undersized but athletic, quick and fearless as he attacks competition head on, showing a variety of talents from the running back that transitions well on the next level. The biggest trait that stood out to me the most about Wolcott was his ability to catch the ball, run routes and break away from his defender with ease. The Commanders senior back couldn’t show it on Sunday but Wolcott has no problem putting his head down, running up the middle and pushing through would-be tacklers. His work Sunday definitely earned MVP honors and expect Wolcott to continue having strong performances throughout the upcoming summer camp season.
WR MVP
Jaylon Campbell – Gentry (MS)
– While the main focus for everyone was on our current senior class and the underclassmen, this 2023 standout took MVP honors for the receiver as he was too good throughout the entire combine to not receive this achievement. Undersized at 5’9, Campbell more than made up for his height as he used his quickness and speed to get in and around his defender to consistently get open and make the reception. Campbell has great feet along with a sudden, twitchy lower base that would work very well in the slot. I personally do not know too much about why this Mississippi native is currently unsigned but Campbell is definitely talented and someone that could develop further and eventually make his way into the college ranks.
O-line MVP (Co-Winners)
Dominic Clifford Dominic Clifford 6'1" | 280 lbs | OL Baylor | 2024 TN – Baylor
– Coming to town with the tag of underrated attached to him, Clifford helped his stock tremendously at the PRZTN Spring Showcase earning MVP honors but also displaying the ability to handle multiple roles across the offensive line. You can tell Clifford works hard at his craft as he took to playing tackle or guard easily and I think his best football may be suited at center. The Red Raiders senior prospect displayed excellent feet and lower body mobility while maintaining his balance to keep defenders at bay during 1 on 1 competition. Clifford also did well with his hand placement while showing improved power and strength within his upper body. Being down in Chattanooga with Baylor and their coaching staff will help Clifford big time not only with his recruitment but his game as well, so watch out for this guy moving forward!
Syler Green Syler Green 6'3" | 275 lbs | OL Independence | 2026 TN – Independence (‘26)
– Everybody working with and watching the O-linemen was highly impressed with this versatile Sophomore O-lineman who definitely earned a share of MVP honors with an almost flawless performance at our Spring Showcase. Green works right now at 6’2 250 plus pounds but sports a nice frame with a good body for growth along with outstanding lower body movements. He was one of the top testers for the O-line then proceeded to perform very well during 1 on 1’s against older competition. This Mid-Tennessee talent has good feet and moves well laterally, showing upside as a pass blocker but with the current size of an offensive guard or center. Green is still growing and developing into his body, so tons of maturation has yet to happen but the talent is there for this Eagles Sophomore to establish himself as one of the best at his position for our in-state #TN2026 class.
D-line MVP
Isaiah Hare – Bullitt East (Ky)
– It’s without question, Hare was the best defensive line performer at camp and easily one of the overall best from either side of the ball. This guy took his recruiting stock to another level on Sunday showing off line versatility, football smarts and deceptive athleticism along with quickness that will appeal strongly to collegiate coaches this summer during camps. Hare put on a show displaying a variety of pass rush skills and doing so from several areas across the defensive line. This Bluegrass State native has outstanding feet and hands and he knows how to use them along with having a variety of pass rush skills to get past the blocker and chase down the quarterback. Hare is also big enough to play inside, so his value across the D-line is very high and I think college coaches will see that over the next few months.
LB MVP
Joe McCord Joe McCord 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB Alcoa | 2024 State TN – Alcoa
– McCord is a well put together young man that put together a clean, consistent performance at the PRZTN Showcase on Sunday where he landed position MVP and praise from several college coaches and scouts in attendance. The Tornadoes senior defender had some of the best positional work of all prospects at camp where coaches used him as their lead dog due to McCord’s high football intelligence and attention to detail. Seeing those traits in person tells me this East Tennessee product is legit and his film backs it up as a bonafide edge defender. McCord did most of his camp work in space, covering the pass but his strength is rushing the passer and chasing down the ball carrier off the edge. Winning the PRZTN Showcase Linebacker MVP won’t be McCord’s last accolade this summer as I expect him to land plenty of offers and boost his overall stock.
DB MVP
Thomas Jones Thomas Jones 5'11" | 175 lbs | DB Smyrna | 2024 State TN – Smyrna
– One of the top names coming into the #PRZTN Showcase, Jones more delivered as he came away as the DB MVP and one of the top overall performers from the combine. Fluid and smooth with excellent hips, Jones displayed excellent man to man skills throughout camp while also showing the range and recovery speed, chasing the receiver across the field. Jones is a track guy who runs very well and that strength was on full display Sunday. He put forth a great time with his forty then proceeded to show off that speed in positional work as well as 1 on 1’s, where he was one of the best at playing on the island. The Bulldogs senior prospect holds multiple FCS offers at the moment and with his performance at Sunday’s Showcase, I expect Jones to hear his name called for more offers sooner than later.
