I was able to zoom in on a few standouts from this past weekend’s tournament that displayed some great football all the way from California, Arkansas, and Texas on one Team. Take a look at some of the game breakers from the anticipated matchups…
Is there a more complete high school receiver than DeBraun Hampton DeBraun Hampton 5'11" | 170 lbs | WR Willis | 2024 State TX ? I haven’t seen it on film yet. Hampton utilized his recent growth spurt (5’11 3/8, 175) and weight gain to bully the secondaries at the DR7 with crisp precise routes that always ended with amazing snap downs and a surplus of separation from the would-be defender. Now add in the hands that are D1 certified, an admirable vertical, a poker player’s demeanor, and you have a DeBraun Hampton DeBraun Hampton 5'11" | 170 lbs | WR Willis | 2024 State TX . Based on film and production alone in all venues, it would be a crime if this kid doesn’t end up power 5. That’s why we write to the film here at Prep RedZone so no crimes can be committed. Keep an eye on this one.
Tice Williams Tice Williams 6'3" | 190 lbs | DB Conroe | 2024 State TX is a hot name when talking about tall (6’2.5 190) and rangy athletes. His full name is Tice Legend Williams and he looks to play with a personal chip on his shoulder on every outing. Dubbed an IQ guy with an athletic pedigree early on, scouts are now starting to understand that the IQ is the icing on the cake for an athlete whose film shows a fast violent hitter with super stingy range on the back end. Williams allowed 0 catches deep for his fourth tournament in a row, recorded a pick 6, and had two touchdowns as a receiver to boot. I have a feeling this kid is about to climb his way to a totally different teer within the rankings as an athlete/free safety.
Cedrick Williams is a nickel back out of Centennial High School in Corona, California who traveled to Texas to compete in the DR7 tournament. This kid is a Pitbull in every sense of the term. He was aggressive all the way from mentality to technique to how he battled adversity. He showed impeccable skills defending the two-way go from the slot position. Very handsy with lively feet. Williams thrives in the press concept due to his naturally aggressive nature. With his ability to stay patient in the receiver’s box on all release types, the sky is the limit for Williams and his recruitment should see a positive bump sooner than soon.
Luke Coon stood out as a 6’1 170-pound wide receiver for the 2024 class. Coming out of Bentonville, Arkansas, Coon was an exceptional pass catcher to say the least. The kid has a special hand. It was awesome to see the snatching of the ball out of the air in tight windows from a multitude of angles. Coon Team Texas Fury and didn’t disappoint in representing his state. Look for him to get noticed quick and fast from the 7v7 circuit. I see a bright future for this kid after completing his high school playing days.
Shaheem Taylor Is a 6’1 175-pound cornerback who flew into Texas this past weekend to compete in the Round Rock DR7 tournament with Team Texas Fury. For multiple games Taylor strapped the other team’s island receiver tit for tat and only allowed 1 reception in 4 total games. He was virtually flawless when pressing and knowing when to turn his hips and commit to the vertical threat. Every play was finished body to body with the pigskin spinning in the grass and not in the intended target’s hands. California sent one of its brightest up-and-coming star DBs to Texas and he didn’t disappoint.
