Some of the most exciting high school tape to watch is from quarterbacks and wide receivers because they are some of the most competitive positions for earning opportunities at the next level. There are plenty of DI, DII, and DIII level players in New York, and while I love highlighting individuals, it is time to shed some light on the top returning teammates in New York. This series is broken down into three different regions to include a wide range of guys, and just a disclaimer these are not in order of who I think is the best. This article just highlights several top teammates and returning WR/QB groups in WNY/CNY.

[player_tooltip player_id='521408' first='Zymier' last='Jackson'] & [player_tooltip player_id='406848' first='Kelvin' last='Shepard'], [player_tooltip player_id='406846' first='Ervin' last='Wiggins'], [player_tooltip player_id='406845' first='Anthony' last='Diaz'] - East

Ironic that we start off a "Duos" article with a whole WR room, but at East, you simply cannot just point out one player. [player_tooltip player_id='521408' first='Zymier' last='Jackson'] is a highlight reel at quarterback and has incredible touch on deep throws. Jackson also is really good at creating off-broken plays and using athleticism to give his guys more opportunities. As far as the wide receivers go, all three had over 400 yards receiving, and they all showcase great athleticism on tape. There is no top guy here because there are three that are that good. Diaz already has offers from Army and Buffalo; I would expect all three of these guys to play at the next level in some capacity. Elite trio and quarterback, and you could argue one of the most dangerous offenses in 2023.

[player_tooltip player_id='254885' first='Matthew' last='Meacham'] & [player_tooltip player_id='521436' first='Andrew' last='Wanzenreid'] - Honeoye Falls-Lima

A true duo, HFL's Matt Meacham and [player_tooltip player_id='521436' first='Andrew' last='Wanzenreid'] are one of the most dangerous duos in New York. Meacham has one of the best arms in New York and a smooth arm release. Meacham throws a really beautiful deep ball, and Wanzenreid is one of the most dangerous deep threats in the state. Wanzenreid has elite length and really good speed, his route running is crisp and shows really good ball tracking down the field. Wanzenreid was the only HFL receiver to eclipse 300 yards and was responsible for 46% of Meachams passing yards last season.

[player_tooltip player_id='257415' first='Jackson' last='Rucker'] & [player_tooltip player_id='451504' first='Sam' last='Pucci'] - Fairport

[player_tooltip player_id='257415' first='Jackson' last='Rucker'] and [player_tooltip player_id='451504' first='Sam' last='Pucci'] return after a really solid season, Pucci is a dangerous deep threat, and Rucker shows he can make huge plays off broken plays. Rucker has a really solid arm, and Pucci can make contested catches at a high level. This duo has a ton of potential; more consistency would help these guys turn their top connection into more consistent points for Fairport. I think this could be one of the most underrated duos headed into the 2023 season.

[player_tooltip player_id='505854' first='Dominic' last='Anzalone'] & [player_tooltip player_id='648835' first='Gerald' last='McCloud'] - Bishop Timon St. Jude

Some young guns on this list, Anzalone (2026) and McCloud (2025) had a really solid season together. While we saw flashes from these guys on a consistent basis, Anzalone will continue to improve accuracy and poise in the pocket to help increase his completion %. At the same time, McCloud could take the step from 400+ yard receiver to over 750 as they both develop. Some of the quality traits we saw last season were McCloud's speed and ability to cut quickly. Anzalone showed really solid arm strength and the athleticism to move and create on the run.

[player_tooltip player_id='726120' first='Khaya' last='Moses'] & [player_tooltip player_id='604521' first='Landan' last='McKnight'], [player_tooltip player_id='505856' first='Messiah' last='Hampton'] - Monroe

Perhaps the highest ceiling of any player on this list, [player_tooltip player_id='505856' first='Messiah' last='Hampton'] is the 1A, while Landon McKnight is the 1B for QB [player_tooltip player_id='726120' first='Khaya' last='Moses']. Moses may lack size, but he has good ball placement and really solid touch on his throws down the field. McKnight has elite speed and can make plays at all three levels, while Hampton is one of the top recruits in 2026 and already has an offer from Buffalo.

[player_tooltip player_id='528154' first='Jaxon' last='Razmovski'] & [player_tooltip player_id='528162' first='Nathan' last='Williams'], [player_tooltip player_id='528161' first='Tristan' last='Johnson'] - Cicero-North Syracuse

Another top trio of receivers in New York Cicero-North Syracuse returns a couple of guys who will be seniors and create one of the most dynamic receiving groups in New York. Razmovski did a great job of spreading the ball around to all, showcasing their abilities while leading Cicero-North Syracuse to an 11-2 record. Williams and Johnson are two of the best route runners in New York and showed they can make plays at all three levels.

[player_tooltip player_id='473979' first='Justus' last='Kleitz'] & [player_tooltip player_id='735828' first='Nate' last='Blair'] - Iroqouis

Another young QB in [player_tooltip player_id='473979' first='Justus' last='Kleitz'] (2026) returns with [player_tooltip player_id='735828' first='Nate' last='Blair'], who was the second most targeted player next to [player_tooltip player_id='237325' first='Nate' last='McGoldrick'], who is headed to St. John Fisher to play football next season in college. Blair showcased he can stretch the field and make plays at the intermediate and deep levels of the field. Blair, who like McGoldrick, is a WR/TE type player, has great size, and is physical down the field. Kleitz was extremely efficient as a freshman. Kleitz has good ball placement down the field and has really good touch on throws to the sidelines and the middle of the field. Blair and Kleitz form one of the most exciting duos through the air this coming season.
