After updating the 2023 and 2024 rankings, we have now released our initial rankings for the class of 2025. Over the past couple weeks, I have been breaking these rankings down by position. After already covering the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, I will wrap things up by focusing on some players that make an impact in multiple positions. With that being said here are our top “ATH” in the class of 2025 in Kentucky.
Not only is Montavin Quisenberry Montavin Quisenberry 5’9″ | 160 lbs | ATH Boyle County | 2025 State KY the top ATH in his class, but he has also proven to be one of the best overall players in the entire state. Montavin played a key role in the Rebels’ 4A State Championship run as a true offensive weapon as a receiver and as a running back. As a receiver, he finished this past season with 57 catches for 833 yards and 13 touchdowns. He is able to use his speed and quickness to his advantage to create separation from defensive backs. Quisenberry is also very electric after the catch, showing the ability to turn short passes and screens into big plays. Montavin also finished second on the team in rushing, carrying the ball 96 times for 1,009 yards and ten touchdowns. He has very impressive vision as a ball carrier along with the speed to run away from the defense and elusiveness to make defenders miss in the open field. Quisenberry also returned three punts and three kickoffs for touchdowns and came away with three interceptions this season. Montavin currently holds offers from Kentucky and Louisville, and I expect more to come his way as he is a Power 5 caliber prospect.
Another player that has consistently stood out as one of the top players in the state is Male’s Antonio Harris Antonio Harris 6’0″ | 170 lbs | ATH Louisville Male | 2025 State KY . Harris had a strong sophomore season, performing at a high level on both sides of the ball. On offense, Harris finished this past season as the Bulldogs’ leading receiver, catching 36 passes for 684 yards and ten touchdowns. He thrives in the slot, using his speed and smooth route running ability to create separation. Harris also uses his athleticism to catch passes at their highest point and has very reliable hands. On defense, Harris has shown the versatility to play both in the nickel and on the outside at corner. He is very impressive in man coverage, showing the ability to jam receivers off the line of scrimmage and stay in their hip pocket to mirror their routes. When the ball is thrown his way, he has shown the ability to break on the ball with perfect timing to make a play, finishing this past season with two interceptions and several pass breakups. He also has proven to be reliable against the run as he comes downhill in a hurry to provide support and is a very good open field tackler. Harris currently holds offers from Purdue and Louisville, and I expect more to come his way as he is a Power 5 caliber prospect that could play on either side of the ball at the next level.
Another two-way player that stood out to me this past season was Connor Hodge Connor Hodge 6’1″ | 160 lbs | ATH Christian Academy of Louisville | 2025 State KY from CAL. Hodge played a key role in CAL’s high-powered offense, serving as one of his brother’s (starting quarterback Cole Hodge Cole Hodge 6’2″ | QB Christian Academy Of Louisville | 2024 State KY ) targets at receiver, catching 30 passes for 472 yards and eight touchdowns. He lines up in the slot and uses his quick release and speed to create separation. After the catch, Hodge has the speed to run away from the defense and elusiveness to make defenders miss in the open field. Hodge is also very impressive in defense as a corner, finishing this past season with 31 tackles, three tackles for loss, one fumble recovery, and five interceptions. He has incredible ball skills, breaking on the ball with perfect timing to catch interceptions in stride. Hodge finished this past season with two interception returns for touchdowns. Connor also is reliable against the run, showing the ability to come downhill and make tackles in the open field. He also showed some ability as a returner on special teams, breaking off several impressive returns this past season. Connor currently holds offers from UT Martin and Eastern Kentucky, and I expect more to come for him as he is a Division I caliber athlete that could play on either side of the ball at the next level.
Another explosive athlete that played a key role in CAL’s 3A State Championship run is Trey Cotton Trey Cotton 6’1″ | 180 lbs | ATH Chrisitian Academy of Louisville | 2025 State KY . Cotton truly stood out on both sides of the ball this past season. On offense, Cotton finished as his team’s leading receiver this past season, catching 51 passes for 967 yards and 12 touchdowns. He lines up on the outside and is able to use the smooth breaks in his routes to create separation. Cotton is also a reliable jump ball threat as he has the athleticism to go up and catch the ball at its highest point and has very strong hands. After the catch, Cotton has the elusiveness to make defenders Miss and strength to break tackles in the open field. On defense, Cotton plays free safety and has tremendous ball skills, finishing this past season with four interceptions, returning one for a touchdown. He is also very reliable against the run, showing the ability to come downhill and make tackles in the open field. Cotton currently holds one offer from Eastern Kentucky but I expect more to come his way as he is a Division I caliber prospect with the ability to play on either side of the ball at the next level.
Wrapping up our top five ATH in the class of 2025 is Darius Akal Darius Akal 6’0″ | 155 lbs | ATH Harlan | 2025 State KY from Harlan. Akal is a very talented running back on the offensive side of the ball, finishing this past season with 101 carries for 664 yards and eight touchdowns. He has very impressive vision, showing the patience to let his blocks set up and the ability to find cut back lanes quickly. Once he gets into the open field, Akal has the speed to run away from the defense and elusiveness to make defenders miss. On defense, Darius is a lock down corner on the outside. He has tremendous man coverage skills, playing with a nice amount of physicality and showing the ability to mirror receivers’ routes. When the ball is thrown his way, Akal does a great job of fighting across the receiver’s body to make a play on the ball. Darius currently holds offers from Eastern Kentucky and Union College, and I expect more to come his way as he is a Division I caliber athlete that could play multiple positions at the next level.
