Film Review WPIAL 2024 Under-Recruited Prospects

I am back writing about the WPIAL again. Since I started writing on the WPIAL I have been blown away at the talent that exists in that part of the state. So for this article, I am going to write about under-recruited prospects in the WPIAL. Check it out below.    [player_tooltip player_id='558244' first='Mike' last='Evans'] Canon-McMillan. Evans the left-handing quarterback is an underrated prospect. He is a classic pocket quarterback. He is very good at reading the defense and making the right throw. He has a very good touch on the ball and knows exactly where he wants to go with the ball on the snap. I like his throws on intermediate throws and throws on the seam. He can put the ball in the right window against the defense. He is also very good when the play breaks down. He might not be the biggest runner, but he has functional mobility and can make plenty of plays with his feet to extend the play. Johnson is an athletic play-making linebacker. He is a very good outside linebacker who makes a ton of plays from his linebacker position. One of the best parts of his film is his ability to create turnovers. He is very good at getting his hands on the ball and making a play. An example is one time in his film I saw him strip the ball from a player and return it for a touchdown. He is also a very good blitzer from his linebacker position. He is very good at finding the right angle and attacking the offense. Finally, Johnson is a sideline-to-sideline defender who makes good tackles. Johnson has a lot of talent and with a strong Senior year, he should have a good chance to play College Football.    [player_tooltip player_id='256006' first='Jack' last='Fennell'] North Catholic. Fennell is a dynamic athlete who can make a big play every time he touches the ball. On his film I saw him score on a punt return, kickoff return, receiving touchdown, and a rushing touchdown. He is like a human joystick on the field. He is so good at making people miss with his moves and then taking off with his elite speed for a big play. As a returner he is fearless. He is so good at hitting a return at the right angle and making a big play. As a wide receiver, he can stretch the field, but also has good hands. His recruiting is just starting to ramp up and he recently visited Lafayette.   <figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper"> https://twitter.com/JackFennell19/status/1629650485022957569?s=20 </div></figure>    [player_tooltip player_id='377440' first='Dorrien' last='Tate'] Our Lady Sacred Heart. A dynamic athlete who played defensive back and wide receiver. As a wide receiver, he is very good. He has a good catch radius and if any ball is near him he will come down with it. He is really good on deep balls where he can go up and make the play on the defensive player. He also has excellent hands. His ability to catch the ball in traffic is excellent. Finally, he can run by defensive backs a needed skill for wide receivers. Tate has excellent skills and I came away super impressed with his film. His recruiting has just started to ramp up, and I expect Tate to be a high riser in the 2024 class.    [player_tooltip player_id='256273' first='Zyan' last='Howard'] Canon-McMillan. Howard is an elite lockdown cornerback. He uses his body very well to cover receivers and has the hips to turn and run with receivers. He also has very good ball skills and uses them to create havoc against the offense. Howard's versality also stands out in his film. He can play cornerback in a zone-heavy defense and man-to-man defense. In both defenses, he is good at dropping into coverage and making plays. Finally, he is a very good tackler from his cornerback position. He is not afraid to make the tackle but is also willing to force the ball carrier back inside. Howard with a good Senior year should have a chance to get recruited to play College Football.    [player_tooltip player_id='91564' first='Amare' last='Harper'] Sto-Rox. Harper is a very impressive defensive tackle who creates havoc in the middle of an offense. He has a very good 1st step and uses it well to attack offensive linemen. He is very good at the bull rush where he pushes the pile or the offensive lineman into the backfield. Harper shows very good leverage with his ability to play the run and rush the passer. Using that leverage to control interior offensive linemen allows him to push them backward. He also is very strong. You can tell from his film he has the strength to play defensive tackle. I expect Harper to get some College Football looks in the future.    [player_tooltip player_id='557812' first='Ruben' last='Gordon'] Washington. Washington is an elite playmaker with the ball in his hands. He is a touchdown waiting to happen every time he touches the ball. On his film, he scored a touchdown on a kickoff return, a punt return, a kickoff return where the player lateraled the ball back to him, a receiving touchdown, and a rushing touchdown. Another thing that stands out is Gordon is very tall and uses his length very well. Standing 6'2" allows him to highpoint the ball and to win 50/50 balls. Gordan also shows improvement in running routes and catching the ball well. Florence is a talented athlete who can do a lot on the football field. As a running back he is a physical runner who will not go down when he runs the ball. He is very good at attacking the hole and finding an opening. He is also very good on tosses and can break runs for big plays and even touchdowns. Florence has a physical style in the way he plays. Even when he plays defense he is very physical at the point of attack from his linebacker position and can make the tackle. Florence with strong Senior year projects as a College Football player.
