The ability to run like wideouts, rush the passer and drop back in pass coverage, are key skills that linebackers in today’s game must possess. Here are the First Team All Camp linebackers who had their stock raised after their outstanding performances last weekend.
Fiefia gets downhill in a hurry; he has good burst when closing in on the ball carrier and he has good eye discipline when reading the running backs movements in space. During the agility drills, he moved smoothly through the bags with excellent knee lift and he displayed the ability to plant and go without false steps. His extended arm length was on full display during the pass coverage drills versus the running backs, leading to multiple pass breaks up. Fiefia showed good patience and the ability to break on the ball quickly. Kohen has the frame to add bulk as he matures.
Adams has thick shoulders, a strong, stout build and looks every bit of 6-foot and 200-pounds. In the shed and go portion of the linebacker drills, he hit the blocking dummies with a powerful punch. Luke has good length, shows good hip flexibility, he has good short area quickness and excellent lateral movement. Adams takes proper pursuit angles to the ball carrier in space and he showed off good closing speed when the running back commits to a hole. He has the make up of your classic thumper at the Mike linebacker position, but has the athleticism to line up on the edge and rusher the passer as a stand-up linebacker. As he continues to develop his skill set, he has the potential to be one of the top linebackers in his class in the state of Oklahoma.
Highlights
McClure is stout in stature at 5-foot-11 and 195-pounds, he has broad shoulders and has thick lower half. He excelled in the agility session, showing off his clean footwork, he displayed the ability to cut and plant well and he had great balance. During pursuit drills, McClure was impressive, he tracks the ball carrier with good eye discipline and close well when he attacks his opponent. His strong hands and powerful punch enabled him to win several reps during the pass rush period versus the running backs. Christian’s fluid movement during pass coverage, allowed him to have several pass breakups. As he continues to mature, his skill set will enable him to be a force in the next couple of years
