Check out the 2023 Rankings here.
Ben Rosenblatt Ben Rosenblatt 5’11” | 185 lbs | WR Poly Prep | 2023 State NY had an electric Senior season for Poly Prep. Committed to Rutgers as a PWO Rosenblatt showed how dangerous he can be on both sides of the ball this season. Rosenblatt consistency was a major factor in Poly Prep’s big offensive plays and did a great job of using his elite route running to get open and in space behind defenders. Rosenblatt tracks the ball really well and has great hands. Rosenblatt was a solid defender in pass coverage and had really good range making it difficult for opposing quarterbacks to target his areas of the field. Overall Rosenblatt built on a strong Junior season and earned a few opportunities to play at the next level and help lead Poly Prep to undefeated season.
Michael Zeh Michael Zeh 6’1″ | 175 lbs | WR Moore Catholic | 2023 State NY had a great year as one of the leaders of a really talented team over at Moore Catholic. Zeh was the go to wideout for Moore Catholic and also was one of their best defensive backs. On offense Zeh was incredible at making catches in traffic and down the field. Zeh’s strong play as a senior land him in our rankings and got him a couple post season offers from Union and Misericordia.
Christian Watts Christian Watts 6’3″ | 285 lbs | OL Archbishop Stepinac | 2023 State NY was one of the best blockers in the entire NYCHSFL this season. A mainstay on a really talented Archbishop Stepinac offensive line Watts strong season led to an offer from SUNY Brockport after the regular season. Watts has great size and the tackle does a fantastic job of moving in space and connecting with blockers at the next level. Watts has the strength and finishing ability to be a really solid player at the next level. Watts best trait is what he can do in the open field, with the screen heavy game that Stepinac runs there is plenty of tape where Watts makes great open field blocks.
Brody Stevens Brody Stevens 6’3″ | 200 lbs | LB Orchard Park | 2023 State NY was a do-it-all athlete for Orchard Park. The LB/S/WR/P and Team Captain was one of the most important players for the Quakers. On the defensive side of the ball where Stevens is most dominant he had 74 Tackles, 6 Sacks, 3 FF, and 1 INT this season. Stevens is an excellent blitzer and does a great job of using his length (6-3) and athleticism to get to the quarterback. Stevens also can be a disrupter in the pass game where he does a good job of performing his responsibilities and keeping eyes in the backfield. Stevens strong year led to offers from Utica and Allegheny.
Kenroy Hutchinson Kenroy Hutchinson 6’0″ | 305 lbs | DL Frank J. Macchiarola | 2023 State NY was a dominant defensive tackle for Frank J. Macchiarola. Hutchinson played on the line for both offense and defensive but his best position at the next level is clearly as a defensive tackle. At 300lbs Hutchinson has unprecedented quickness for someone his size. Offers from Hartwick and Brockport show how impactful Hutchinson was this season. Great strength with elite quickness like Hutchinson’s are traits that are hard to find in just one player. Hutchinson displays it as both an offensive and defensive lineman on his tape.
Navon Mitchell Navon Mitchell 5’11” | 170 lbs | ATH Curtis | 2023 State NY , another top playmaker from the PSAL was one of Curtis’ best performers this season. The RB/S prospect has breakaway speed that is coveted at the next level. I am not sure what his best position is at the next level is because when you watch him play he looks so good on both sides of the ball. As a running back Mitchell’s speed and one-cut get up field style of running are so difficult to contain. However, as a safety Mitchell is an elite tackler and has great instincts. He also never shy’s away from making big hits or big plays from the safety position. A strong senior season led to offers from Lock Haven and Pace.
James Miller James Miller 5’10” | 170 lbs | DB Erasmus Hall | 2023 State NY was another fantastic piece to an incredible Erasmus Hall defense. Miller played cornerback for the Dutchman and was incredible all season not allowing a single touchdown. Miller is a really solid tackler and does a great job of keeping contain of his side of the field. Miller could project best as a slot corner at the next level now that he has offers from Seton Hill, Utica, and Cortland due to his 5-10, 170lbs size but the versatility he shows on tape of being a tackler, press corner, off coverage man/zone corner show that he can be lined up in any position and has the skillset to succeed.
Xzavier Goodman Xzavier Goodman 5’10” | 220 lbs | LB Bennett | 2023 State NY is one of my favorite linebacker prospects in this class. Goodman is a dangerous threat for offensive weapons in the middle of the field and makes some of the biggest hits you will see in New York. The Bennett linebacker led the Tigers defense to a state championship where they effectively controlled every offense they faced all season. Goodman is a great athlete and makes plays in coverage and is always around the ball. As an athlete I don’t think their is anyone in the state at linebacker who can match the quickness, speed, and strength combination that Goodman has. A strong Senior season with electric plays in big games make Goodman a necessary addition to our rankings.
Saadiq Simpkins Saadiq Simpkins 6’2″ | 170 lbs | ATH Bayside | 2023 State NY is one of the most talented defensive backs in New York. Elite length and cover skills have led to a plethora of offers from the Bayside Senior . This season Simpkins had 27 Tackles, 4 INTs, 2 FF, 1 Sack from the corner and safety position. Simpkins has incredible range from the safety spot and makes really nice plays on the ball by attacking the the catch point. Simpkins length and skills make him an intriguing option at the next level and offers from Kings, Wagner, Fairleigh Dickinson, Pace, Rochester, and Anna Maria prove that college coaches are intrigued by the player he is.
Highlights
Ramsay, the Cornell commit was a integral player as the middle linebacker for Mamaroneck. Ramsay has great sideline to sideline abilities where he rarely lets running backs get to the outside. Ramsay is quick to close on the ball and does a great job of shedding blocks near the hole. Ramsay also is a solid blitzer and has shown he can get around lineman by using his quickness and violent hands. Ramsay got a couple offers this summer but ultimately chose Cornell once his great senior season closed out.
Luke Kennedy Luke Kennedy 6’1″ | 200 lbs | LB Somers | 2023 State NY was one of the many important Seniors to a State Championship Somers team. The OLB/S prospect picked up an offer from Union after a strong season in which he had 104 Tackles, 64 Solo, 3 INT, and 22 TFL. Kennedy has great closing speed and some of the best instincts in this class. Kennedy always is using his eyes to his advantage and never is overaggressive getting out of position. With the discipline and fundamentals Kennedy has he is routinely near the ball and making the right plays. Kennedy does a really good job of tracking the ball in coverage as well consistently making plays on the ball or the receiver right as they touch the ball.
Serge Lagardere Serge Lagardere 5’7″ | 145 lbs | WR Archbishop Stepinac | 2023 State NY stands out on the field but it is not just because of his 5-7, 145lb stature. It is because every field he steps on he arguably is the most dangerous player with the ball. Lagardere was so dangerous in the high powered Archbishop Stepinac offense that featured a heavy screen and short passing game. Lagardere is so quick and fast that defenders struggle to get near him. And when they do, his elusiveness through tackles allows for several extra yards on nearly every play. Lagardere is also an incredible returner because of those traits. There was not many more exciting players to watch on the field this season that Lagardere.
Highlights
TJ Surace TJ Surace 6’4″ | 290 lbs | OL Walter Panas | 2023 State NY , star lineman for Walter Panas had a great season leading to offers from RPI, Hamilton, and Union. Surace played guard for Walter Panas and he was one of the best mauling guards in all of New York. One of the most exciting lineman to watch on tape Surace finishes his blocks was aggression. He played in a run dominant offense so there is a little bit of a desire for more pass protection reps but it is easy to see the traits of aggression, strength, and athleticism that should easily translate at the next level. Surace was one of the most fun lineman to evaluate in this recruiting cycle because how many aggressive blocks he makes.
Highlights
Balaam Miller Balaam Miller 6’4″ | 260 lbs | DL St. Francis | 2023 State NY not only was one of the most dominant defensive lineman this year for St. Francis but he has some of the most intriguing physical traits for the next level. at 6-4, 262lbs with a 6-10 wingspan there was not a single lineman in New York who could take control of Miller. Miller’s length gives him such an advantage as a player and it allows him to make really impressive plays when he is still connected to blockers. Miller also has really solid speed of the ball and his quickness get lineman on their back foot at the start of most reps. Miller oozes potential but some added muscle or a position change to the edge could maybe help him at the next level. Regardless Miller was one of the most impressive defenders we saw this season.
Tommy Carlsen Tommy Carlsen 6’0″ | 250 lbs | OL Lancaster | 2023 State NY had an incredible senior season and although Grove City remains his only offer from the summer I would be surprised if he does not get a couple more opportunities before signing day. Carlsen is a great run blocker with incredible hands. He is really the only lineman who we saw able to keep top NY recruit Rashard Perry Rashard Perry 6’3″ | 245 lbs | DL Bennett | 2023 State NY in check for any portion of a game. Carlsen may not be the tallest or strongest lineman in New York but not many understand leverage and how to use their strength like Carlsen. Carlsen does a good job of getting to the next level and not being overaggressive or missing blocks. One of the surest things in this class Carlsen will succeed at the next level, especially if he adds some muscle and weight to his frame.
Sharrieff Memminger Sharrieff Memminger 6’0″ | 180 lbs | DB St. Francis Prep | 2023 State NY was a bright spot on a St. Francis Prep squad that struggled to get in a rhythm this season. Memminger has really good coverage skills and is a very aggressive tackler. Memminger is sticky in coverage and does a good job of keeping receivers tight. Memminger has a very well rounded skillset that can translate to the next level. Preseason offers from Westfield State and William Paterson helped Memminger bring in some momentum from the summer to have a strong year on the defensive side of the ball.
