While the regular season was great, the playoffs in each class exceeded expectations as a lot of talent was on display. With that being said, I wanted to take some time to focus on the players that stood out during the playoffs in each class. After covering 1A, 2A, and 3A, I will now turn my attention to the top playoff performers in 4A. With that being said, here is my 2022 4A All-Tournament Team on the offensive side of the ball.
Corbin quarterback Kade Elam Kade Elam 5’11” | 170 lbs | QB Corbin | 2025 State KY is an underclassman in the state of Kentucky that truly impressed me this season. Elam continued to show growth in the playoffs, leading Corbin to the 4A State Championship Game. Although his team fell short to a very talented Boyle County team, Elam still found a way to impress during the playoffs, completing 43/63 passes for 760 yards, 12 touchdowns, and no interceptions. In the deep passing game, Elam showed off a very strong arm with the ability to lead his receivers down the field and hit them in stride. He also showed very good ball placement, putting the ball where only his receivers could catch it. Elam has also shown a solid quick release, flipping his hips and getting the ball out quickly to hit his receivers out of their breaks in the short passing game. Kade also showed the ability to tuck the ball and make plays on the ground during the playoffs, carrying the ball 32 times for 192 yards and four touchdowns. Elam is currently committed to play baseball at Louisville but does hold a football offer from Eastern Kentucky and has the potential to turn into a highly sought after quarterback prospect if he were to have a sudden change of heart.
Avery Bodner Avery Bodner 6’0″ | 175 lbs | ATH Boyle County | 2024 State KY put on quite the show in the 4A State Championship Game, earning MVP honors while leading Boyle County to victory. While he stood out in that game, he also put together quite the playoff run as a whole. Bodner filled in at quarterback for the Rebels in the first two rounds, completing 11/14 passes for 195 yards and three touchdowns but made his biggest impact as a ball carrier, finishing the playoffs with 57 carries for 554 yards and eight touchdowns. Avery is an impressive downhill runner with great vision and the ability to hit the running lane with a sense of urgency once it opens up. Once he gets into the open field, Bodner has the speed to run away from the defense but also has the strength and contact balance to break tackles without breaking stride. Avery recently picked up his first offer from Eastern Kentucky and I expect more to come as he goes into his final season of high school football.
Cortez Stone Cortez Stone 5’10” | 170 lbs | RB Louisville Central | 2025 State KY proved to be one of the best running backs in the state during the regular season and continued to impress in the playoffs. Stone was a big reason for Central’s deep playoff run, carrying the ball 71 times for 660 yards and nine touchdowns. The biggest thing that sets Stone apart is his blazing speed. He hits the running lane with a sense of urgency and simply keeps running right by the defense before they have much of a chance to stop him. When defenders do come within tackling range of him, Stone has shown the ability to make cuts on the dime to make them miss. He has also shown that he can make plays in the passing game when asked to do so, finishing the playoffs with three receptions for 48 yards. Cortez currently holds offers from Purdue, Louisville, Eastern Kentucky, and Western Kentucky, and I expect that list to continue to grow over the next couple seasons as he is a true Division I caliber talent.
Another electric offensive weapon that had a great regular season and continued to impress during the playoffs is Montavin Quisenberry Montavin Quisenberry 5’9″ | 160 lbs | ATH Boyle County | 2025 State KY from Boyle County. Quisenberry did a little bit of everything for the Rebels’ offense during their State Championship run. He finished the playoffs with 15 receptions for 344 yards and four touchdowns while also running the ball 36 times for 397 yards and four scores. As a receiver, he is very dangerous in the deep passing game, using his speed to run right by opposing defensive backs. He is also a very impressive route runner, using his quickness to create separation. Out of the backfield, he has impressive vision with the ability to let his blocks set up, find the running lane, and hit it with a sense of urgency. Once he hits the open field, he has the speed to run away from the defense and elusiveness to make defenders miss. Quisenberry is also a very dangerous returner on special teams, returning one kickoff and one punt for a touchdown during the playoffs. Montavin holds offers from Kentucky and Louisville, and I expect that list to continue to expand as he is a truly special talent that has the potential to be a star at the Power 5 level.
Zack Claudio Zack Claudio 5’9″ | 165 lbs | ATH Franklin County | 2023 State KY is a player that I’ve had high on my radar for a while now and continued to impress in the playoffs. He played a key role in Franklin County’s deep playoff run, finishing with 20 receptions for 284 yards and three touchdowns. Zack is an impressive route runner with the ability to create separation and get open in the middle of the field. He also has the speed to pose as a deep threat and has very reliable hands. After the catch, Claudio has the speed and elusiveness to turn a short pass into a big play. Claudio also showed some promise as a ball carrier during the playoffs, running the ball six times for 55 yards and a touchdown. Zack holds one offer from Wilmington College but I believe he deserves more attention from college coaches as he has the potential to develop into a very reliable receiver at the next level.
Coming into this season, DeGraff was mainly known as a kicker. However, he showed that he is more than that during the regular season, becoming one of the best receivers in the state. He continued to impress during the playoffs, catching 17 passes for 199 yards and four touchdowns during their three game playoff stretch. DeGraff has the speed to run by defenders in the deep passing game and also has the route running skills to create separation on short and intermediate routes. After the catch, he is able to use his speed and quickness in the open field to turn short passes and screens into big plays. While he impressed as a receiver, he continued to show that he is one of the best kickers in the state, making all eleven of his PAT attempts during the playoffs. Max is committed to Kentucky where he will most likely be a kicker but he does have the ability to play receiver if the need ever arises.
Franklin West Franklin West 6’3″ | 310 lbs | OL Corbin | 2024 State KY has been high on my radar for a while now and continued to impress during Corbin’s run to the 4A State Championship Game. West was the anchor of Corbin’s offensive line at left tackle and was truly dominant in the run game. He is a true mauler, exploded out of his stance and driving his man down the field. West did a great job of finishing his blocks through the whistle, ending in several pancake blocks. He has also shown that he can get up to the second level and pick up blocks in the open field. West is also very reliable in pass protection, showing solid footwork and the ability to pick up stunts and defeat counter moves. Franklin currently holds offers from Miami (OH) and Eastern Kentucky, and I expect that list to continue to grow as he is a Division I caliber offensive lineman that has the versatility to be moved all over the line if needed.
Andrew Hardwick
Andrew Hardwick
Another offensive lineman that stood out to me in the playoffs was Boyle County senior Andrew Hardwick. Hardwick played a key role in Boyle County’s dominant rushing attack during their 4A State Championship run. He mainly lined up at tackle but can be moved inside if needed. In the run game, Hardwick did a great job of exploding out of his stance and keeping his feet running through contact to create movement off the line of scrimmage. He also showed the ability to wall off his man to create a running lane for the ball carrier. Hardwick also showed that he can get up to the second level and pick up blocks in open space. In pass protection, Hardwick does a good job of mirroring pass rushers off the edge and does a great job of defeating counter moves and burying defensive linemen before they can get going. Andrew is committed to Army where I see him developing into a key player down the road.
To wrap up my 4A All-Tournament Offense, I have another offensive lineman that I’ve had high on my radar for a while now. Joe Schlarman Joe Schlarman 6’2″ | 245 lbs | OL Lexington Catholic | 2024 State KY is the man in the middle for the Lexington Catholic offensive line and made his mark during the playoffs. Schlarman is a dominant run blocker, showing the ability to get his snaps off quickly while stepping to his man then driving them off the line of scrimmage. He finishes his blocks with a ton of physicality, resulting in several pancake blocks. In pass protection, he shows very good footwork and the ability to pick up stunts and blitzes. Joe doesn’t currently hold any offers but I can see some coming his way going into his senior year as he has received a nice amount of college interest and has the talent to play at the next level.
