Washington was really tired of walking off the field at UCO with a silver ball. The top-ranked Warriors went wire to wire as the top team in Class 2A and they finish off a perfect season with a 17-14 win over Millwood on Saturday afternoon. After finishing the 2020 and 2021 seasons as runner up in Class 2A, the Warriors came into this season determined to finish the job and finally capture their first gold ball since 1996. The Warriors would win a low-scoring battle with the Falcons and it ended with junior quarterback [player_tooltip player_id='215208' first='Major' last='Cantrell'] finding sophomore tight end [player_tooltip player_id='353411' first='Nate' last='Roberts'] in the back of the end zone for what would be the game-winning touchdown with just 2:31 left.

Scoring came at a premium on Saturday afternoon but it didn't begin like that. Both teams had no problems finding the end zone early on. Washington would score on their first possession on a [player_tooltip player_id='237186' first='Cole' last='Scott'] touchdown run. Millwood responded on their first possession with a [player_tooltip player_id='57205' first='Rickey' last='Hunt Jr'] touchdown run but the two-point conversion came up short and the Warriors would lead 7-6 at halftime after both teams exchanged punts for the next quarter and a half.

Millwood would get on the scoreboard again halfway through the third quarter on a William Mays touchdown pass from freshman [player_tooltip player_id='434614' first='CJ' last='Turnbull'] that put the Falcons up 14-7. This came after both teams exchanged several three and outs. Washington would score early in the fourth quarter on a Cantrell touchdown pass to junior [player_tooltip player_id='154210' first='Cooper' last='Alexander'] but the play was negated by a holding penalty. The Warriors had to settle for a 25-yard field goal from Mayson Thomas.

Washington's defense would then hold and the Warriors would go on a march that they'll remember for a while. With 9:19 left in the game, the Warriors would go 60 yards on 14 plays and take nearly seven minutes off the clock. They converted a pair of fourth downs, including a short run from Scott inside the Millwood 15 that was nearly short and would have given the ball back to Millwood. The Warriors would then score the game-winning touchdown a few plays later and the Warriors would finish off the game 5-6 on fourth downs.

Millwood couldn't pick up a first down and Washington would take over and never give the ball back. The game ended on yet another fourth down conversion from the Warriors as Cantrell would go 34 yards on 4th and 26 to ice the game for the Warriors. Washington came into this season as our number one team in Class 2A and they went wire to wire as the top team in 2A with a state championship to finish it off.
