Spotlight Players
Austyn Modrzewski Austyn Modrzewski 6'5" | 205 lbs | QB Mountain Vista | 2025 State CO , Mountain Vista Golden Eagles (QB)(So.)(13) – Modrzewski, in my mind, was easily the player that stood out the most from the showcase, regardless of position. Modrzewski separated himself from the pack in the pass skeleton session and 1-on-1s, showing a smooth release and elite ball placement and accuracy to all areas of the field. Modrzewski’s outstanding performance earned him the MVP of the QB group but if there was an award for the MVP of the entire showcase, he’d certainly be deserving of that too. Modrzewski’s performance at the showcase seamlessly translates to the field, the first thing that jumps out on film (much like his night at the showcase) is his ball placement and overall accuracy, as his passes are consistently hitting his receivers in stride or in between defenders who are sitting in zone coverage. Poised passer that displays good pocket presence and is not easily rattled by the opposing pass rush. Highly intelligent QB that can quickly work through his progressions. Good understanding of structure and how to break it when forced to ad-lib. Displays good arm strength that allows him to make most throws at every level of the field. Shows a good ability to throw on the run, outside the pocket, and from different arm angles. Modrzewski is currently ranked the number 1 QB and the number 3 player overall for the class of 2025 and it’s easy to see why. He has the size (6’4 185lbs), the tape, and the production that points to a high level player and a blue-chip QB prospect.
Armando Manuel Armando Manuel 5'11" Pueblo South | 2024 CO , Pueblo South Colts (WR)(Jr.)(1) – Manuel was easily one of the top receiver prospects at the showcase on Thursday night. While the junior speedster’s snap count in the Colts offense to this point in his prep career is a small sample size, his talent and performance at the showcase indicate a high-level playmaker with game-breaking speed that can certainly play at the collegiate level. Manuel quickly solidified himself as one of the showcase’s most athletic playmakers, finishing near the top of every drill in the testing portion regardless of position. Manuel continued to solidify himself in the pass skeleton and 1-on-1 portion of the showcase, consistently showing the ability to separate against just about every DB that came out to the showcase. The traits Manuel displayed at the showcase definitely show up on the field as well, as the first thing that stands out about Manuel on tape is his elite level explosiveness and top-end foot speed. Lightning quick release off the line that allows him to quickly get on top of the opposing DB. Shows a thorough understanding how to attack the DB’s leverage, whether they are in press coverage or playing off coverage. Displays a knowledge of how to attack the soft spots in zone coverage, consistently being able to sit in between the zones and create after the catch. Good ability as a route runner showing a versatile route tree at all three levels of the field and a consistent ability to create separation against most opposing DBs. Manuel isn’t currently ranked on any recruiting boards for the class of 2024 but the small sample size in his prep career probably explains why. Regardless, he is a highly explosive receiver that will continue to grow his recruiting profile as he gets a bigger role in the Pueblo South offense next season.
Jeremiah Hoffman Jeremiah Hoffman 6'1" | 170 lbs | WR Severance | 2025 State CO , Severance Silver Knights (WR)(So.)(11) – Much like Manuel, Hoffman dominated the competition and certainly staked his claim as the best receiver in the building with the MVP award for the receiver group backing up his claim. Hoffman stood out from the crowd early on at the showcase, posting some of the best numbers of any player during the testing portion – including the fastest forty time of any player during the showcase. Moving into the pass skeleton and 1-on-1 periods of the showcase, it was more of the same for Hoffman, showing sure hands and the ability to routinely create separation against most of the DBs going against him. The top-tier traits that Hoffman displayed at the Showcase translate to the field as well, as the fist thing that jumps out about Hoffman from the tape of his sophomore season is his elite top-end foot speed and ability to create separation at the top of his route. Elite first-step explosiveness out of his stance that allows him to quickly get on top of the opposing DB. Prototypical deep-threat receiver that can take the top off of the defense on any given play and can beat most opposing DBs with his speed alone. Outstanding ability after the catch that allows him to consistently turn short and intermediate routes into chunk yards, showing elusiveness and vision in the open field that allows him to find/create space. While excelling as a deep threat, Hoffman displays a well-rounded skill set as a receiver, showing the ability to win against multiple different coverages at all three levels of the field. Deceptively physical blocker in the run game, showing the ability to consistently seal the edge when blocking smaller DBs. Hoffman is currently rated the number 5 WR and the number 29 player overall in the class of 2025, which is certainly a well-deserved ranking given his performance at the showcase. If Hoffman can continue to perform like he did on Thursday, he can expect that rating to rise by the time 2025 rolls around.
James Basinger James Basinger 5'10" | 195 lbs | RB Columbine | 2025 State CO , Columbine Rebels (RB)(So.)(35) – While there were several prospects at the tailback position that had tremendous showings at the showcase, Basinger was arguably the best among them and earned the MVP award for the tailback position at the showcase as a result of his performance. Basinger started his night hot, posting some of the better testing numbers of any prospect at the showcase regardless of position and kept the momentum going into the positional and 1-on-1 periods, consistently showcasing his well-rounded skillset as a RB while proving difficult for the opposing LBs to get a hand on in 1-on-1s. When you dive into the tape of Basinger’s sophomore season, it’s easy to see why he performed so well at the showcase, as the first thing that jumps off the screen is how well-rounded he is as a tailback, showing the ability to win in every phase of the position. Compact, stocky frame, with a low center of gravity allows him to consistently maintain his balance at the point-of-attack when making contact with an opposing defender. Highly elusive runner if given space in the open field, consistently showing good vision to find daylight and presenting a challenge for most 2nd and 3rd level defenders to tackle in 1-on-1 situations. Extremely physical runner on carries in between the tackles bringing plenty of power and tenacity behind his pads allowing to churn out tough yards on the goal line and in short yardage situations. Shows good ability as a receiver out of the backfield consistently being able to create separation against slower 2nd and 3rd level defenders. Basinger is currently rated the number 2 athlete and the number 12 player overall in the class of 2025; given his performance from the showcase and his film, that ranking is certainly something he’s deserving of. If Basinger continues to play at a high-level and continues to grow over the next two seasons, he’ll easily be a hot commodity on the recruiting trail.
Quentin Harms, Poudre Impalas (QB)(Sr.)(6) – Harms quietly had one of the more impressive performances of any player at the showcase, easily standing out from most of the other QBs that were there. Harms had a solid showing in the testing period of the showcase but where he really separated himself is in the pass skeleton and 1-on-1 periods, consistently showing the ability to hit throws to all levels of the field with outstanding ball placement and accuracy. Turning to the senior QB’s tape from 2022, his film certainly shows that all of the traits he showed at the showcase translate to in-game scenarios as well, as his accuracy and ball placement to all three levels of the field are the first things that jump off the film. Also displays excellent overall accuracy and ball placement while on the run or off-platform. Displays outstanding pocket presence, consistently being able to avoid the pass rush and buy time to find a receiver downfield. Shows good arm strength that allows him to push the defensive backfield and consistently hit throws deep and outside the numbers. Savvy QB that displays a thorough understanding of the structure of the offense and how to break that structure when the play breaks down and he’s forced to ad-lib. Shows a consistent ability to work through his progressions quickly while limiting turnovers. Deceptive runner with the ball in his hands that can gash the defense for chunk yards if they fail to account for his legs. Harms isn’t currently ranked on any recruiting boards for the class of 2023 and while his prep career may be over, he absolutely has enough talent to play at the collegiate level and is at least worth taking a flyer on given his traits and production.
