The prospect landscape is starting to become clearer and below is a look at some class of 2027 prospects (athletes in their eighth-grade school year) that have come across my desk. As football recruiting and evaluating continues to change, the eighth-grade year is becoming a pivotal time for young athletes to garner early attention from universities. Here’s a look at some prospects that are on the trajectory to be playing a high level of football for years to come.
Coming out of the state of Virginia, Kymonte is an athlete that is already making a lot of noise in the football landscape. He is one of the few athletes that can be found playing at a high level on both sides of the ball, but he shines in the defensive secondary. As a defensive back, Kymonte has very advanced ball skills that allow him to break up or intercept any pass that comes his way. He is able to do this with his speed and with the tracking of the quarterbacks eyes to see where the ball is going. After that, Kymonte plays very instinctual football by trying to predict where the ball is going and makes a play on the ball when it comes to him. At 5-foot-10 and 130-pounds he’s a longer cover right now and it’s proven to be a big advantage for him.
Champ is a gritty running back coming out of the Sunshine state of California. Being one of the toughest runners that I have seen out of this class so far, it is no surprise that Champ has already begun to make some noise around the state. The short, compact running back runs with authority as he fights for every yard that he gains on the football field, and never shies away from contact when he is rushing downfield. Being able to bench 225-pounds as a 2027 prospect allows him to muscle up on would-be tacklers. Champ also mixes in a pretty good amount of speed and agility to his game, as well. Champ is capable of changing directions on a dime in order to make defenders miss on tackles and break away from everyone on the field at the same time. He has recently announced he’ll be headed to Aquinas High School in San Bernardino.
Kye is a dynamic, speedy playmaker coming out of the state of Colorado. As one of the fastest kids that I have seen coming out of this class, Kye is nothing short of amazing on the football field. His speed allows him blow the top off of coverages at a rapid clip and become nightmares for any defensive secondary that he faces. Certainly a unique talent at this point, Kye can be found performing at a high level in almost any scheme including jet sweeps. If he is carrying the ball out of the backfield and can get to the edge, its game over. His speed allows him to breakaway from box defenders and fly past edge defenders as he makes his way to the end zone. Having his father as a high school coach at Cherry Creek High School, a perennial powerhouse program, Kye understands the game at a high level at this point, too. He is an explosive athlete who has the potential score on any given play. Whether it be on the track and/or football field, he appears to have a bright future and i he can continue to stretch out and add on some height, he has the potential to earn his way to some big time schools.
Dayvian is another speedy wideout coming out of Massachusetts, a state that honestly doesn’t get enough credit with the football talent it produces. In almost every clip that I have seen from Dayvian, it seems like he can blow past defenders with relative ease. Whether he is going deep on a fade route, or taking a hand off via jet motion, Dayvian is going to gain chunks of yards at a time. With all of that being said, what makes Dayvian elite is the smooth routes that he runs. He makes his breaks look effortless and has no problem getting his head around to find the ball. Dayvian also has great hands and seems to catch the ball in space very well and has no problem continuing to run after bringing the ball in. Overall, Dayvian is one of the top big-play athletes coming out of New England in this 2027 class. He’ll be a fun one to watch develop.
Highlights
Braylyn is an exciting linebacker coming out of central Florida. Just from what I have seen from him, Braylyn can do brings a lot of ability and versatility to the position because of his athleticism. At linebacker, Braylyn is nothing short of a playmaker who racks up several tackles on the game by game basis. His ability to move fluidly is what gets me fired up. Offensively, he is a very capable receiver who has no problem hauling the ball in and generating yards after catch as well. Braylyn is also capable of playing at a high level coming out of the backfield, where he can break off big runs at times. Overall, Braylyn is a kid with a promising future defensively. I am very excited to see how Braylyn develops as he gets set to transition into high school.
Grey is a shifty dual-threat quarterback hailing from the talent-factory state of Georgia. The term “extension of the coaching staff” comes to mind when evaluating him. Certainly looks to be a well-liked leader and remains calm under pressure. Grey is a hard runner who has no problem carrying the ball between the tackles. At 5-foot-10 and 160-pounds, he runs low and hard , and unlike other quarterbacks, Grey is going to fight through contact to gain as many yards as possible. Gray has a very smooth throwing motion that allows him to sling the ball effortlessly around the yard and has the precision to hit his wideouts in areas that allow them to continue to advance the ball down field after the catch. Grey also proves to have a cannon for an arm, and has no problem tossing the ball deep to one of his targets downfield accurately. There’s a confident swagger to this kid and without ever meeting him in person, I feel like I’d be super comfortable handing him the keys to my offense.
Jamaurion is an explosive linebacker coming out of the state of Kentucky. Jamaurion plays with a high motor and natural instincts on the field that help separate himself form his competition. He has great vision that allows him to track the ball, and the speed to get to the ball carrier before he can make anything of the play. Jamaurion is also a sure tackler who has no problem finding a way to bring his opponents to the ground. Watching him play, it shouldn’t go without saying that he’s also a highly athletic kid who can make plays on the offensive side of the ball, too. However, he looks like a natural at Linebacker. With what I have seen from him, there is no telling what this kid can’t accomplish. The next four years should be fun to watch.
