The prospect landscape is starting to become clearer and below is a look at some class of 2027 prospects (athletes in their eighth-grade school year) that have come across my desk. As football recruiting and evaluating continues to change, the eighth-grade season is becoming a pivotal time for young athletes to garner early attention from Universities. Here’s a look at some prospects that are on the trajectory to be playing a high level of football for years to come.
Delontay is a big time wideout coming out of the state of California. Delontay is already making noise in recruiting as he already received his first Division 1 offer from San Jose State. With his impressive size and speed, it’s not a fun task for anyone to cover Delontay. With his 6-foot, 160-pound frame, Delontay is capable of going up and grabbing the ball out of the air with an impressive vertical. Lastly, Delontay has very good ball skills that allow him to reel in nearly every pass that comes his way. It is clear that Delontay has all of the tools needed to be successful at the next level, and I am excited to see where football takes him. He trains hard in the off-season and it pays off with productivity.
Robert is a high caliber dual-threat quarterback coming out of the state of Georgia. The 5-foot-9, 135-pounder proves that he can compete at a high level and make plays with not only his arm, but with his legs as well. With his shifty speed, Robert is capable of eluding defenses effectively and either running with the ball or extending the route concepts and throwing a bomb down field. Robert also has really impressive arm talent as he is able to hit targets accurately no matter where they are on the field. Overall, Robert has some really impressive tape so far and I am excited to watch him grow as a player. As he continues to add overall size, it should help him tremendously to maximize his potential.
Carlos is an exciting playmaking linebacker hailing from the state of Iowa. With his instinctual play making ability, Carlos proves that he can be an absolute force on the defensive side of the ball. With this speed, Carlos is capable of tracking down the ball carrier and bringing them down as soon as he makes contact with them. Carlos also plays with a very tenacious edge that allows him to play hard and physical through the whistle, no matter what he is going to chase the ball. Carlos has shown early on in his career that he has what it takes for the next level, he has a very bright football career ahead of him. At 5-foot-11 and 180-pounds, he played much of this season with a cast and it had little effect on him. He’ll be an exciting one to watch develop.
Highlights
We’ve covered him a few times recently but there’s no shortage of reasons to continue to. Caleb is another stand-out athlete coming out of the state of Tennessee. Just from looking at him, you could tell that Caleb is just on a different level compared to the rest of the competition. From what it looks like, Caleb could do just about anything on the football field at an elite level. When he is running with the ball, he bulldozes over defenders and breaks away from the rest. When Caleb is on the defensive side of the ball, he has the capability of making just about every play. He’s already visited Kentucky and Tennessee, with many more SEC programs lined up for the future. In both basketball and football, it is clear that it won’t be long before that first offer comes.
