Heritage Hall knew they had something special with junior quarterback Andy Bass Andy Bass 6’0″ | 195 lbs | ATH Heritage Hall | 2024 State OK last year. But they had to wait for Bass to sit out his sophomore season before he could truly impact the game for the Chargers. This season, it didn’t take long for Bass to become an impact player. Whether it’s passing or running the ball, Bass leads a Heritage Hall offense that is one of the more balanced attacks in the state. He’s thrown for over 2,700 yards and 27 touchdowns while also adding over 700 yards and 15 touchdowns on the ground. Bass will be leading a Heritage Hall offense on Thursday night that is going to want to control the ball. His ability to run the ball will be important and he’s shown plenty of times this year that he’s ready for that challenge. Bass has been one of the breakout stars of this season.
Highlights
Arguably the most important player on Heritage Hall’s defense on Thursday night will be junior defensive back Jordyn Harris Jordyn Harris 6’1″ | 165 lbs | DB Heritage Hall | 2024 State OK . The Chargers are playing a Metro Christian team that has arguably the best passing offense in the state this season. Harris and the Heritage Hall secondary will be on the frontline to slowing that passing attack down. Harris leads the Chargers with six interceptions on the season. He also has nearly 50 tackles on the season as well. The Chargers won’t be able to stop Metro’s passing attack, so tackling after the catch and not letting a short gain turn into a big play will be critical. Harris has emerged as one of the better cornerbacks in the state’s 2024 class. But he also is a playmaker on offense as well. He has just 12 catches on the season but 6 have gone for touchdowns.
Heritage Hall is going to want to run the ball on Thursday and Metro Christian knows that. But if they load the box and force the Chargers to throw the ball, look for senior wide receiver Orie Walker Orie Walker 6’3″ | 190 lbs | WR Heritage Hall | 2023 State OK to have a big game. Walker has been one of the best athletes at Heritage Hall over the last several seasons. In addition to what he’s done in football, he’s also an excellent basketball player. Walker is Heritage Hall’s leading wide receiver with 58 catches for nearly 1,000 yards and eight touchdowns on the season. Walker is a big play threat for the Chargers and will put some pressure on the Metro Christian defense. He’s a big reason why the Patriots can’t just focus on stopping the run because the Chargers will make them pay with Walker’s playmaking ability at wide receiver.
One of the more impactful players in the state is Heritage Hall’s senior River Faulkner River Faulkner 5’11” | 205 lbs | ATH Heritage Hall | 2023 State OK . The proof is in the production as Faulkner had to sit out the first three games of the season and he hasn’t been stopped ever since. Faulkner has over 1,000 yards and 20 touchdowns on the ground in just ten games this season. He also has turned around and leads the team in sacks with eight on the season, again, in just ten games. He has over 60 tackles on the season and is tied for the lead with 15 tackles for a loss. Faulkner is so incredibly important to what the Chargers do on both sides of the ball and will be incredibly valuable on offense Thursday night. As we mentioned with Bass, Faulkner and the Heritage Hall offense will want to run the ball at will Thursday night. Faulkner’s power running will benefit from that.
Highlights
One of the more underrated players in this match-up is Heritage Hall junior defensive lineman Zavier Freeman Zavier Freeman 6’2″ | DL Heritage Hall | 2024 State OK . Both teams are led by plenty of seniors but Freeman is one of the better juniors on this team that starts on both sides of the ball. When we look at this match-up, Freeman will be more important on offense as the Chargers attempt to shorten the game, controlling the ball and keeping Metro’s offense off the field. Because while Freeman is a defensive lineman to keep an eye on, Metro gets the ball out so quickly that it will be hard to put pressure on them with the pass rush. So Freeman’s biggest impact will be on offense as the Chargers look to establish the run and put together some lengthy drives that end in points. If they’re able to do that, they’ll be in a good position on Thursday.
