Continue ReadingAnother week has come and gone, and the 2022 high school football regular season has come to an end. The eleventh week of the season provided us yet another week full of outstanding performances. While it was hard to narrow down, these are the most impressive performances in the state of Kentucky that stood out in the final week of the regular season.
Chase Crone Chase Crone 6’2″ | 190 lbs | QB Simon Kenton | 2023 State KY is a player that I have been high on for a while now. He continued to impress this past week in a huge win over a very talented Woodford County team. Crone finished the game completing 10/17 passes for 142 yards and a touchdown. He showed the ability to roll out of the pocket and make throws on the run. Crone also showed impressive accuracy in the short passing game with the ability to put a ton of zip on his passes in tight windows. While he was impressive throwing the ball, he was even better on the ground, running the ball 32 times for 271 yards and five touchdowns. He ran the read option to perfection, showing the ability to keep the ball and use his speed to run away from the defense. Chase currently holds offers from Long Island, Thomas More, Morehead State, Ohio Dominican, Walsh, Centre, and Dayton, and I believe he has the potential to develop into a very good college quarterback.
Another senior that I have been very high on this season is Daisjaun Mercer Daisjaun Mercer 6’0″ | 185 lbs | ATH Hopkinsville | 2023 State KY . Mercer continued to show that he is one of the most dynamic athletes in the state, catching seven passes for 146 yards and two touchdowns while also running the ball six times for 26 yards and a touchdown. At receiver, he has elite speed which he uses to run right by defensive backs in the deep passing game to create separation. He also creates separation with his route running ability and has the athleticism to go up and catch passes at their highest point. Mercer also does a lot of damage with the ball in his hands, using his speed and elusiveness to turn short passes and carries into big gains. Daisjaun is committed to Miami (OH) where I expect him to play a key role once he gets there.
Cayden Grigsby
Cayden Grigsby
A player that has jumped onto my radar lately is junior quarterback Cayden Grigsby from Middlesboro. Grigsby continued to impress this past week, completing 6/8 passes for 103 yards and a touchdown. As a passer, he showed great touch and ball placement on his passes, putting the ball where only his receiver had a chance to catch it. While he had a decent game as a passer, Grigsby did most of his damage as a ball carrier, finishing the game with 21 carries for 144 yards and four touchdowns. He was used on read option and designed quarterback draw plays and thrived in that role. Once he hit the open field, Cayden showed the speed to run away from the defense but also showed the strength to run straight through defenders without breaking stride. Cayden doesn’t currently hold any offers but I expect him to pick up some going into his senior season as he has been receiving some college interest and has the talent to be a play maker at the next level.
Gilead Galloway
Gilead Galloway
Gilead Galloway is a player that has caught my attention a few times this season. The senior receiver had a very impressive performance this past Friday, catching seven passes for 158 yards and a touchdown against Madison Southern. Galloway was very impressive after the catch, showing the ability to use his speed and elusiveness to turn screen passes into big gains. He also showed great route running ability, using smooth breaks in his routes to create separation. Gilead doesn’t currently hold any offers but he should be on the radar of college coaches as he has the skill set to play somewhere at the next level.
Demauriah Brown
Demauriah Brown
Sophomore running back Demauriah Brown has made quite the name for himself this season as one of the state’s top rushers. He continued to impress this past week against Whitley County, carrying the ball 26 times for 319 yards and five touchdowns. Brown has tremendous speed in the open field and around the edge which he uses to simply run right by defenders before they have a chance to try to tackle him. He also has impressive vision and comes downhill through the running lane once it opens up. Brown has also shown the strength to keep his legs churning through contact to break tackles. While he doesn’t currently hold any offers, Brown will be a player to watch over the next few years as he has the potential to turn into a high-caliber running back prospect.
Dane Parsley
Dane Parsley
Another sophomore that has had a breakout year is Warren East quarterback Dane Parsley. Parsley had an impressive outing against Daviess County this past week, completing 15/19 passes for 204 yards and three touchdowns while also running the ball 20 times for 105 yards and three scores. As a passer, Parsley showed off an impressive arm with the ability to lead his receivers down the field and hit them in stride in the deep passing game. He also showed a solid amount of zip on his passes in the short and intermediate passing game as he was able to put the ball in tight windows where only his receiver could catch it. He also showed the speed and athletic ability to tuck the ball and pick up big gains on the ground but also showed that he can keep his eyes down the field and complete throws on the run if someone comes open. Parsley is another young player without offers that should be someone to watch over the next few years.
Jaxson Rice
Jaxson Rice
Jaxson Rice is a player that I haven’t gotten to see much this season but stood out to me in his performance this past week. On offense, Rice showed true dual-threat ability as a quarterback. As a passer, he completed 13/19 passes for 213 yards and three touchdowns. He also got the job done on the ground, running the ball 15 times for 61 yards. Jaxson also made a huge impact on defense. He finished the game with seven tackles but also hauled in two interceptions. Rice showed impressive ball skills to break on the ball with perfect timing and also showed the ability to make big plays after the interception, returning one for a touchdown in this game. Jaxson doesn’t currently hold any offers but he deserves a harder look from college coaches as he has the talent to play somewhere at the next level.
The second Jaxson on my list is a player that I have become more familiar with. Junior linebacker Jaxson Shoulders Jaxson Shoulders 6’2″ | 215 lbs | ATH Hart County | 2024 State KY continued an impressive season this past week, finishing the game with 13 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, and an interception against Grayson County. He did a great job of reading his keys and flowing to the ball to put himself in a position to make a play. Against the run, he was able to shoot his gap quickly before offensive linemen could react and did a great job of exploding through contact once he got to the ball. He also showed the ability to read the quarterback when dropping into coverage to put himself in a position to make a play on the ball. Jaxson doesn’t currently hold any offers but has been receiving some college interest and has the ability to play linebacker at the next level.
Andrew Millay
Andrew Millay
Senior quarterback Andrew Millay had a very impressive performance against this past week against John Hardin. He completed 10/11 passes for 224 yards and four touchdowns while also running the ball twice for eleven yards and a score. Millay showed off an impressive deep ball with the arm strength to push the ball down the field and the touch to put the ball where only his receiver had a chance to catch it. He also showed the ability to keep his eyes down the field while escaping the pocket to deliver strikes on the run. Andrew doesn’t currently hold any offers but I wouldn’t be surprised to see one come soon as he has received a solid amount of college interest and has the talent to play somewhere at the next level.
Alex Hatton
Alex Hatton
Alex Hatton is a player that I was unfamiliar with that jumped out to me with his performance against Rowan County this past week. Hatton completed 18/32 passes for 291 yards and three touchdowns while also running the ball 15 times for 171 yards and two touchdowns. In the passing game, he showed an impressive quick release with the ability to get the ball out of his hands in RPO situations and hit his receiver out of his break. He also showed the ability to make throws on the run and the arm strength to throw the ball down the field. As a ball carrier, Hatton was able to use his speed to run away from the defense in the open field but also showed the strength to run through tackles. Alex currently holds an offer from Pikeville but I wouldn’t be surprised to see more come as he has received a nice amount of college interest and has the skill set to be a solid quarterback at the college level.
