STATS: 23-32 | 401 Yards | 3 Touchdowns rnIt was a 1 VS 2 match-up in Cushing that turned into a blowout as the Tigers dominated visiting Wagoner from start to finish. The offense list up the Bulldogs but the defense came up big as well as they pitched a shutout. Leading the way once again for the offense was Cushing senior quarterback and New Mexico State commit Blaze Berlowitz Blaze Berlowitz 6’3″ | 195 lbs | QB Cushing | 2023 State OK . The Cushing signal caller has made throwing for more than 400 yards look routine as it doesn’t come as much of a surprise anymore when the Tigers light up the scoreboard. The QB-WR duo of Berlowitz and fellow senior Camden Crooks Camden Crooks 6’0″ | 190 lbs | WR Cushing | 2023 State OK is one of the absolute best in the state. There’s a reason why the Tigers are the #1 team in Class 4A right now and they backed up the hype with the dominating win over Wagoner.
STATS: 16 Carries | 349 Yards | 4 Touchdowns rnOne of the more underrated running backs in the state’s 2023 class is Chandler’s Casmen Hill Casmen Hill 5’11” | 175 lbs | RB Chandler | 2023 State OK . This standout back has been a star since his sophomore season and he was at it again on Friday night. And Chandler is a team that we need to start taking more seriously in the Class 2A title race. On Friday night, in a blowout win over Bethel, Hill ran for nearly 350 yards and four touchdowns. It was the best game of the season for Hill, who missed Chandler’s only loss against 4A powerhouse Poteau. And despite missing Hill, the Lions only lost by single digits to the Pirates, who are now #2 in the 4A rankings. Hill appears to be well on his way to an All State-caliber season and he’s been that type of player over the last few seasons for the Lions. Now they want playoff success to go along with it.
STATS: 19 Carries | 191 Yards | 4 Touchdowns rnLast week, we announced our Midseason MVP’s and taking the award for 6A-1 was Union senior running back DJ McKinney DJ McKinney 6’0″ | RB Union | 2023 State OK . The Union standout backed up the hype 24 hours later as he helped carry the Redhawks to a 42-28 win over Norman. Union remained unbeaten, despite getting a scare from the Tigers. McKinney has had an outstanding season so far and a lot of that has to do with his overall talent as a playmaker, but you also have to tip your cap to the offensive line. This is a unit that is one of the best in the state. They have a couple guys on that line who should be considered D1 prospects for the next level. Not only is McKinney one of the better running backs in the state, but he’s a versatile weapon that is having an MVP season.
STATS: 14-18 | 279 Yards | 5 Touchdowns rnDel City had a brutal district loss to McAlester in overtime but bounced back with a big win on Friday night against Sapulpa. The district championship hopes are still alive as they have Coweta left on the schedule and if they can knock off the Tigers, they’ll have a shot at the district crown. In the win over Sapulpa, Del City quarterback Dkalen Godwin Dkalen Godwin 5’7″ | ATH Del City | 2023 OK continued his breakout season. In his first year as QB1, Godwin has been one of the breakout stars in Class 5A. In the win over Sapulpa, Godwin threw for just over 275 yards and five touchdowns on 14-18 passing. The Eagles were mainly a running team last season but they have shown they can be incredibly balanced this year. The Eagles are still a dangerous team to watch in Class 5A.
STATS: 7 Carries | 154 Yards | 4 Touchdowns | 1 Fumble Recovery Touchdown rnIt was a good 24 hours for Berryhill senior running back and linebacker Ethan Stites Ethan Stites 6’2″ | 225 lbs | LB Berryhill | 2023 State OK on Friday evening and into Saturday. On Friday, Stites and Berryhill absolutely dominated Locust Grove. In the win, Stites would go for over 150 yards and four touchdowns and finished with only seven carries on the night. On the defensive side of the ball, Stites would recover a fumble and take it back for his fifth touchdown on the evening. Fast forward to Saturday and Stites was in Stillwater for OSU’s game with Texas Tech. After meeting with the coaches, Stites earned an offer from the Cowboys. Stites is one of the hardest hitting linebackers in the state’s 2023 class. So this could be just the beginning for Stites, who has become a late-rising prospect in the class.
STATS: 18 Carries | 177 Yards | 5 Touchdowns | 8 Tackles | 2 Sacks rnFrom the start of the season, Gore has been the top team in our Class A rankings and they’ve been one of the more dominant teams in the state, regardless of class. In week six, they were supposed to have their toughest test against Pocola but that turned into yet another blowout in favor of the Pirates. Leading the way was senior running back and linebacker Gunner Dozier Gunner Dozier 6’2″ | 195 lbs | RB Gore | 2023 State OK . He finished with nearly 180 yards and five touchdowns. He also added eight tackles and a pair of sacks on defense. Dozier is a three-year starter for the Pirates and he’s already put up numbers that match his sophomore and junior outputs respectively. Class A is going to be competitive when the playoffs roll around but Dozier and the Pirates have to be considered the favorites.
Blanchard went on the road and stunned Tuttle in a district showdown, which makes this district in Class 4A more crowded at the top. The games down the stretch are going to be critical to the district championship. The Lions had the game-winning touchdown with less than a second to play. Literally 0.2 seconds were left on the clock when Blanchard’s Jaxon Laminack Jaxon Laminack 6’0″ | WR Blanchard | 2023 State OK made a catch in the corner of the end zone. The Lions scored the big win over the Tigers and keep their district championship hopes in tact. This is a district that is incredibly competitive. In addition to Blanchard and Tuttle, keep an eye on Bethany and Newcastle to make plenty of noise down the stretch. But on Friday night, it was all about Laminack and the Lions coming away with the big win.
STATS: 19-30 | 332 Yards | 2 Touchdowns | 17 Carries | 62 Yards | 1 Touchdown rnFor the second straight week, Norman North senior quarterback Kamden Sixkiller Kamden Sixkiller 6’4″ | QB Norman North | 2023 State OK is a Top Performer. For the second straight week, Norman North knocked off one of the Tulsa-area schools. Last week, it was a win over Broken Arrow in overtime. This week, the Timberwolves went on the road and stunned two-time defending state champion Jenks, handing the Trojans a rare home loss with the 31-21 victory. In the big road win, Sixkiller continued his fantastic play by throwing for well over 300 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 19-30 passing. He also added 62 yards and one touchdown on 17 carries. Sixkiller has firmly established himself as one of the breakout stars of this season in Class 6A-1. He’s quickly climbing the charts in terms of 2023 quarterbacks.
STATS: 23 Carries | 248 Yards | 3 Touchdowns rnWe’ve written a few times already this season about Chickasha senior running back and the great senior season he’s had so far. He’s been a running back prospect that has been on our radar for over a year now. And it’s all coming together this season as he’s putting up massive numbers and Chickasha is 5-1 on the season. In their latest win, Murphy went for nearly 250 yards and three touchdowns. Arguably the toughest district test of the season is coming up this week as they’ll travel to face Elk City. After that game, they host defending state champion Clinton. Chickasha has a legitimate claim of being the best team in their district and if they can go 2-0 in the next two weeks, they’ll be one step closer to claiming the district championship.
STATS: 5 Catches | 240 Yards | 3 Touchdowns rnBooker T Washington got another win where the offense was playing off the charts. They were able to take care of Tahlequah as they look to gain some momentum with the playoffs around the corner and some important district games taking place down the stretch. Leading the way on Friday was the QB-WR duo of seniors Lathan Boone Lathan Boone 6’1″ | 175 lbs | QB Booker T Washington | 2023 State OK and Micah Tease Micah Tease 6’1″ | WR Booker T Washington | 2023 State OK . The Arkansas commit was outstanding on Friday and showed why he’s one of the top overall prospects in the state’s 2023 class. Tease caught just five passes and still finished with nearly 250 yards and three touchdowns. He’s one of the big play threats in the state and if he and Boone are playing like that, the Hornets will once again be a state championship contender when November rolls around.
STATS: 20-29 | 235 Yards | 4 Touchdowns | 11 Carries | 70 Yards | 1 Touchdown rnCoweta made one of the loudest statements in week six when they just absolutely smashed McAlester in a top four showdown at home. Leading the way was senior quarterback Na’Kylan Starks Na’Kylan Starks 6’0″ | 170 lbs | ATH Coweta | 2023 State OK , who had the best game of his career at the position. He moved over to quarterback when starter Carson Laverty Carson Laverty 6’1″ | 185 lbs | QB Coweta | 2023 State OK went down earlier this year with a collarbone injury. On Thursday night, Starks torched the Buffaloes for 235 yards and four touchdowns on 20-29 passing. He also added 70 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Starks is one of the more dynamic athletes in the state and he’s shown that with his production as a wide receiver and a quarterback this season. Coweta is one of many teams in Class 5A to watch out for in a class that is incredibly deep.
STATS: 9 Carries | 164 Yards | 3 Catches | 42 Yards | 2 Touchdowns | 7 Tackles | 3 Sacks rnWe knew that coming into the season that it was going to be a tough year for two-time 3A champion Holland Hall. The Dutch lost so much talent to graduation but one of the returning starters they did return was senior linebacker Parker Jenney Parker Jenney 6’1″ | LB Holland Hall | 2023 State OK . He’s one of the better linebackers in the state’s 2023 class and enjoyed a breakout season last fall. In week six, Jenney and the Dutch got a 41-6 victory to score their first win of the year after playing a brutal first half schedule. Jenney finished with over 160 yards on just nine carries and he also had three catches for over 40 yards and a pair of touchdowns. On defense, he added seven tackles and three sacks. Jenney and the Dutch look to use the win as momentum to get back into the Class 3A playoffs.
STATS: 7 Carries | 236 Yards | 3 Touchdowns rnIdabel improved to 4-2 on the season with a dominating win over Heavener. Idabel has one of the best running backs in the state with sophomore sensation Ravian Larry Ravian Larry 6’1″ | RB Idabel | 2025 State OK . The dynamic back has asserted himself as one of the top overall players in the class as well. And on Friday night, Larry could not be stopped as he made quick work of Heavener. He would have only seven carries on the night and finished with 236 yards and three touchdowns. Idabel has a showdown with Eufaula looming in week ten that will more than likely decide the district championship. Idabel might end up being a dark horse in the 2A title race this year but behind Larry and several other young and up and coming stars, Idabel will be a team to watch for the next few years.
STATS: 18 Carries | 254 Yards | 1 Touchdown rnThe second top performer from the Norman-Union game on Thursday was Norman senior quarterback Tias McClarty Tias McClarty 5’9″ | 160 lbs | ATH Norman | 2023 State OK . While the Tigers came up short of upsetting the top-ranked Redhawks on Thursday night, McClarty could not be contained in the ground game. The dynamic senior quarterback would run for just over 250 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries on the night. He’s always been one of the top running quarterbacks in the state and he continues to show that he should be recruited as an overall athlete in the state’s 2023 class. Look at former Moore standout quarterback Daniel Hishaw and what he’s doing at the next level with Kansas as a running back. McClarty should be on that kind of path for playing at the next level.
STATS: 23 Carries | 200 Yards | 5 Touchdowns | 1 Kickoff Return Touchdown rnCarl Albert is getting ready to go on the biggest run of the season when they play top five teams Bishop McGuinness and Guthrie. The Titans began the run on Thursday in week six by beating up on Southeast in a dominating performance. Leading the way once again on the offensive side of the ball was Carl Albert junior running back Xavier Robinson Xavier Robinson 6’2″ | 225 lbs | RB Carl Albert | 2024 State OK . He finished with 200 yards and five touchdowns on the ground and as if that wasn’t enough, he also took a kick back for his sixth touchdown on the night. Robinson has to be in the conversation for being one of the best overall prospects in the state’s 2024 class. And at this point, we think that he has a good chance of making the claim to being the top running back in the class. We’re looking forward to seeing him in person Friday against McGuinness.
