is one of the more underrated playmakers in Class 6A-1. McClarty plays quarterback for the Tigers but he’s without a doubt a run-first QB and has shown that over the last three seasons. This year, McClarty eclipsed 1,000 rushing yards and at least ten rushing touchdowns for the third consecutive season. When we were publishing our 2023 prospect breakdowns, we wrote about McClarty and how he could transition to become a very strong running back prospect at the next level. We’ve made the comparison to former Moore standout and current Kansas Jayhawk Deuce Hishaw, who was a great HS quarterback and is now a RB, and we stand by that comparison.

We made this comparison over the weekend during our weekly “Top Performer” feature but when we look at Norman senior quarterback

and we see the impact he has, specifically in the run game, we see former Moore standout Deuce Hishaw, who’s now a standout running back at Kansas. Maybe McClarty isn’t as big as Hishaw physically but the production has been outstanding and it hasn’t been just this season. He has a few years of production to go back and look at. And the thing that puts it over the top for us when it comes to him is his drive to be the best. He’s participated in a few of our camps and always done well but more importantly, it seems like some of his best performances are against the toughest teams that Norman faces. We don’t know where McClarty will wind up, but he’ll be incredibly productive.

. The senior ran for nearly 250 yards and four touchdowns in the win. We look at what McClarty has been able to do the last two years as primarily a running quarterback and we can’t help but think of former Moore standout Deuce Hishaw and how he’s having an outstanding career at Kansas. We might have made this comparison before but it still holds and McClarty should definitely be recruited more because of it.Access all of Prep Redzone

. While the Tigers came up short of upsetting the top-ranked Redhawks on Thursday night, McClarty could not be contained in the ground game. The dynamic senior quarterback would run for just over 250 yards and a touchdown on 18 carries on the night. He’s always been one of the top running quarterbacks in the state and he continues to show that he should be recruited as an overall athlete in the state’s 2023 class. Look at former Moore standout quarterback Daniel Hishaw and what he’s doing at the next level with Kansas as a running back. McClarty should be on that kind of path for playing at the next level.Access all of Prep Redzone

It’s the annual Crosstown Clash as Norman High takes on Norman North on Thursday night. Both teams have kicked off their seasons against one another for years, with the exception of the Covid-plagued 2020 season. And one of the top players in this match-up to watch is Norman 2023 quarterback

. The Norman quarterback put up respectable passing numbers last year but it was his rushing stats that made him one of the top performers week in and week out last season. He got off to a fast start last year and will look to do that again on Thursday against a Norman North defense that is rebuilding in some areas. In fact, in addition to McClarty, the Norman rushing attack is very polished and there’s a few different players who could end up standing out in that department. But heading into the game, all eyes should be on the quarterback position as McClarty looks to make plays and Norman North is breaking in a new QB.
