The Trevians of New Trier come into this contest sitting at .500 on the season, while the Titans of Glenbrook North go into this game with a commanding lead in their conference sitting with five wins on the season and only one loss. For the Titans, this is a game to continue their dominance in the Central Suburban (South) conference into the postseason, while across the gridiron, this will be a turning game for the Trevians on the season between trending upwards or downwards into the post season.
New Trier Trevians – While sitting on the tightrope with a .500 record, the Trevians are in the midst of a three-game winning streak that has seen some critical wins against conference foes. The Trevians are led on offense by sophomore quarterback Patrick Heneghan. Patrick is a quarterback who poses a serious threat with his deep ball as he has shown that he is willing and able to throw the long ball; however, Patrick is fully capable of pulling the ball and beating defenses on his feet. To get the ball downfield, you need someone talented enough to go and get the ball for you, and Heneghan has that in junior receiver Miles Cremascoli. Cremascoli is the deep ball threat that can get vertical down the field and power through the defensive backs with his prominent figure.
The Trevian defense is stout with players across the board, but their linebacking core is anchored by the senior middle linebacker, Tyler Jackson. Tyler is a player that displays a high football IQ, trusts what he sees, and reacts promptly. The Trevian defense opened the season slow, letting opponents put up 100 points total on them in the first three games; however, they have since snapped it together, letting up only 44 points total in the last three games. I believe the Trevians success as a whole is directly related to the performance of their defense, and I expect the New Trier defense to continue their show of strength against a formidable opponent.
Glenbrook South Titans – Across the field will be the South Titans of Glenview, who are coming off of their first loss of the year with a close deficit of only 7 points. The Titan offense led off the shoulders of senior running back Chuck Gottfred. Chuck is a back who hits the hole hard and runs north and south on the field with the kind of speed that allows him to lose chasing defenders.
The Titan defense has shown games where they shut opposing offenses down, but they have also demonstrated that they are susceptible to high-scoring offenses. This defense is anchored behind senior middle linebacker Luke Marino, a speedy and agile backer who can cover the field as well as coming down and splitting offensive linemen to get to the quarterback. In addition to Luke at the linebacker position, the Titans have a stout defensive lineman in senior Jacque Gariepy, who plays smart, sits a yard deep, and works the offensive plays in front of him. I look for this defense to put up a battle this Friday in Winnetka.
Game Prediction – I think this game will be a close battle between two teams on the opposite side of the aisle, with the Titans wanting to get back to their winning ways and the Trevians looking to keep their streak going. However, I think the New Trier will be able to pull off the upset at home; 35-28 Trevians.
