has the arm talent to make all the throws. He has a smooth release that allows him to get the ball out quickly, paired with good footwork that helps him throw the ball accurately. Heneghan’s arm strength was on full display last year, often throwing off-platform passes with a lot of velocity. His game translates very well to the next level, showcasing his ability to run a spread offense attack. Few quarterbacks in Illinois possess as much talent as Heneghan in the class of 2025. He will be fun to watch this year.

Great to see a familiar name in the Illinois QB scene since 2021 finally see his hard work pay off. New Trier’s 5’11, 200 gunslinger Patrick Heneghan is entering his third year as New Trier’s starting varsity QB and has created some serious steam behind his senior year campaign after earning his first college offer from FBS Kent State on May 7th! A standout PrepRedzoneIL Showcase performer as well as a consistent and high-performing QB in the offseason unpadded camp circuit, Heneghan posted a 405 lb. squat in February to help strengthen his dual-threat capability and has a ton of experience against big school Chicagoland opponents. He’s also quite the student-athlete, adding an Academic All-State honor to his CSL All-Conference award on the gridiron, and he has a 3.9 GPA to boot.
On tape, the ball pops off his hands, and Heneghan can spin the rock and put some velocity on his throws. He displays a big arm that can rocket the ball downfield even off ihs back foot, quick release, and sound mechanics, and he sees the field well and can get through his reads and process a defense and coverage scheme quickly. I like how steps up into the pocket, avoids pressure and navigates the pocket well, and throws an accurate and strong ball on the move, and the 200 lber. displays noticeable and dangerous burst when he tucks and takes off. Doesn’t have the top-end speed to finish runs, but can churn out big chunks of yardage and will run behind his pads as a ball carrier. Additionally, Heneghan has some throws where he put the ball into some very tight windows, and he’s accurate to all three levels of the field, something he showed in various off-season camps. Great move by Kent State getting in there early. Heneghan has visited a ton of college programs, many of them academic-oriented, so I’m interested to see how his recruitment continues to develop.

Patrick was under fire all night from the Glenbrook South defensive front all night, but time and time again, he extended plays from his feet. This young man had his wheels moving all night, escaping out of the pocket, and was still able to sling the ball downfield as was the case to round out the first half with a pass to his big receiver,

. Patrick had a couple of passes that went for interceptions, but he never let that affect his game and his confidence in his arm as he would come out and still throw the deep ball without hesitation. It was very apparent that this young man wanted to win, and I think he will have a lot of those W’s on his record as his career progresses

headed to Northern Illinois University. This young man has the ability to put the ball in the receiver’s basket on deep shots downfield – at times even in double coverage and has some legs to him as well. This is seen both on QB design runs and when he pulls the ball down to scramble to keep the sticks moving. My man Kyle Schuck is headed out to see New Trier LIVE in action tonight and I look forward to hearing his deep dive report into this young man. Twitter
