As with many sophomores some of these young men may end up finding other positions due to their ongoing growth and development. One thing is undeniable though and that’s the talent that these young men possess. It amazes me more and more every year the polish and level of play some of these athletes possess at younger and younger ages. This group is no different. Here’s the top pass catchers of the class of 2025.
Dorian Brew Dorian Brew 6'2" | 185 lbs | DB Conroe | 2025 State TX (Northmont) 6’2 175- Brew is long, athletic and a burner. You could say that speed runs in the family. Brew’s mother Donica Merriman is in Ohio State’s hall of fame for track and field for her career as a hurdler and sprinter. Not to be out done, his dad, is in LSU’s track and field hall of fame and won Bronze in the 400 meter dash and gold in the 4 x 400 relay at the 2004 olympics. So to say the pedigree of speed is there would be an understatement. Due to all of the offensive talent that the Thunderbolts have on offense, Brew hasn’t had a lot of touches this year. He’s also getting snaps on defense as a cornerback and this may end up being his long term positions. Technically he has good hips and he’s patient. There’s a play where Brew trails the receiver, uses his speed to cut in front him, and jumps to high point the ball for the interception. The athletic ability and talent is there the question really is what is his forever position? Brew has offers from Kentucky, Bowling Green, Eastern Kentucky and others.
Teaunn Hunter Teaunn Hunter 6'0" | 170 lbs | WR Wayne | 2025 State OH (Wayne) 6’0 170- Teaunn is a fun watch on film. He’s such a polished route runner for a sophomore in high school. He has a great feeling for tempo and footwork that he uses to get defensive backs on their heels and then he takes advantage. He’s a smooth athlete who plays with great body control. While all of what I’ve already mentioned is important, what I love is that he plays with an edge. In junior high, Teaunn, used to practice running routes against CJ Hicks who’s now at Ohio State. Hicks would bully and knock down Hunter at the line of scrimmage, and Hunter would get right back up and jump into the front of the line to get the next shot. It’s that kind of edge and dawg along with his physical gifts that I think will help make Hunter an outstanding high school wide receiver. Teaunn has offers from Akron and the University of Massachusetts.
Braylon Collier Braylon Collier 6'1" | 175 lbs | WR Perkins | 2025 State OH (Perkins) 6’1 160- When you watch the film Collier has the speed to stretch the field vertically. He has easy speed. His speed makes cornerbacks uncomfortable as they begin to backpedal out of respect for Collier. He frequently runs past corners with ease. He’s a threat to take it to the house on any play. He tracks the ball well, which is a key component for any deep threat. While his calling card is his speed Collier can make plays in short space as well. I’m really looking forward to watch Braylon continue to grow, get stronger, and develop as a wide receiver.
Caden Piening Caden Piening 6'4" | 230 lbs | TE Anderson | 2025 State OH (Anderson) 6’4 225- When you throw on Piening’s film you quickly realize that his contributions to the Anderson football team are many. He’s a pass catcher, he’s a blocker, he’s a pass rusher. His combo of size and athleticism allow him to help his team in many different ways. As a tight end he’ll line up inline and in the backfield as a lead blocker. He brings some nasty to his blocks as he dominates defenders. He also has the athleticism to run good routes and high point catches. I could see Caden ending up on the defensive side of the ball, but right now I like him as a TE who’s a throwback as a receiver AND a blocker. He’s getting a great deal of Power 5 attention. Next offseason and camp season I think the offers will start to come.
Kamaurri Smith Kamaurri Smith 6'5" | 200 lbs | TE Wayne | 2025 State OH (Wayne) 6’5 200- Is a long and athletic tight end. In the Warriors offense he’ll line up in-line, split out, and in the backfield. He’s not just a willing block he’s a good blocker. He frequently finishes his blocks to the ground. Smith uses his athleticism to make plays in space. Kamaurri shows good awareness in his routes extending routes and making himself available to the quarterback when plays break down. I love his versatility as a playmaking receiver and blocker. If he continues to fill out into that long frame his future potential is sky high.
