Losses vs. Malvern Prep (10-0)
It’s hard to not fall in love with the offensive side of the football when diving into the Cahillites of 2022. You see the incredible production output, rushing for over 1,000 yards as well as passing for over 1,300, you can’t help but think to yourself how impossible it must be to stop this offensive onslaught. Roman Catholic’s attack isn’t unstoppable but damn near close to it. A ranked player at every skill position, including two top-ranked linemen, the highest-ranking athlete in the entire state, and the top freshman prospect PA has to offer. 41+ points in three of their five victories, and yet, the story of Roman Catholic so far is the defense. Honestly can’t say this as a surprise, considering just how loaded this team is. The word stingy doesn’t do this defense justice. The front seven is averaging 2.5 sacks per game, while the incredible back end has secured 3 or more interceptions in 3 of the 5 victories thus far. Roman’s lone blemish can still serve as a bright spot for the defensive unit, holding Malvern Prep to just ten points in the close loss. It’s special watching this program turn talent into wins, this isn’t just a great group on paper anymore. This is a team with its eyes squarely set on a state title.
Top Five Pre-season Ranked Prospects
On a team filled to the brim with top prospects, you can make a case that no prospect holds as much value as the top-ranked athlete Tyseer Denmark Tyseer Denmark 5’11” | 180 lbs | WR Imhotep Charter | 2024 State PA . Denmark hasn’t relied on his name or fame to keep his stock high. The young man is the real deal, producing like a top target in the country should. Here’s what he’s provided Roman Catholic through six games of his junior season.
35 receptions, 655 receiving yards, 7 touchdowns.
Denmark has recorded 4 100-yard games, with one game coming four yards short of 200. Denmark has scored in every game he’s played with his bout against Malvern Prep withstanding. What’s impressive, he’s been making this look easy.
I remember watching Abdul Carter in his final season at La Salle. I remember thinking to myself, this is a grown man who shouldn’t even be playing on the field right now. I get the same sense when watching Jameial Lyons Jameial Lyons 6’4″ | 245 lbs | DL Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA rush the passer this year. The Penn State commit looks to be in full command of the defense, doing what he pleases at times. Physically, Lyons looks to be in the best shape that I’ve seen personally. His efforts have shown up on the box score, registering 3 sacks, 13 TFLs, and 35 total tackles, tied for the team lead. Lyons is proving his worth and leading one of the better defenses in all of PA.
The yardage we spoke of before, 1,000+ yards on the ground and 1,300+ through the air, wouldn’t be possible without the efforts of Austin Ramsey Austin Ramsey 6’7″ | 360 lbs | OL Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA . The top-ranked linemen not named Jven Williams Jven Williams 6’4″ | 290 lbs | OL Wyomissing Junior-Senior | 2023 State PA , Ramsey is the staple of this offense that allows it to move the ball the way it does. I haven’t seen too much tape out of Ramsey, yet the clips on his Hudl give you a taste of how dominant he’s been this Fall. Tough to find backs like Mao Howell Mao Howell RB Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA when he’s running behind behemoths like Austin Ramsey Austin Ramsey 6’7″ | 360 lbs | OL Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA .

Many people had word to say on us ranking Jordan Montgomery Jordan Montgomery 6’2″ | 220 lbs | LB Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA as a top 25 prospect in his class. His efforts thus far have us looking like we know what we are talking about. You can even make the case we still have him too low. Montgomery currently leads the Cahillites in total tackles (35), and interceptions (2), while bringing down ball carriers for a loss eight times. Roman deploys many DL/LB hybrids that are so athletic, they can practically play anywhere in the front seven. Montgomery teamed up with Lyons and Patterson at EDGE or OLB is unfair. The production doesn’t tell the whole story. Excited to see this group up close and personal again.
Tough to say if I’m surprised by top freshman prospect Semaj Beals Semaj Beals 6’1″ | 155 lbs | QB Roman Catholic | 2026 State PA . You just don’t see this level of poise and discipline from freshman quarterbacks often. Seeing a freshman complete 63% of his passes, throw for over 200 yards per game, and score 11 touchdowns should surprise anyone. That being said, if you told me in August that Semaj Beals Semaj Beals 6’1″ | 155 lbs | QB Roman Catholic | 2026 State PA would be performing at this level through six games, I wouldn’t have been surprised. Beals has a stable of horses to target, with as stout a run game as you can find in Pennsylvania. Credit the coaching staff at Roman for setting Beals up to succeed.

Jamir Robertson Jamir Robertson 5'10" | 180 lbs | ATH Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA is often over-looked amongst those who cover the team. The top 100 prospect has acted as the workhorse of the offense, toting the rock 16 times per game. Acting as the lead back with this many athletes on the sideline should say enough about Robertson’s talents. Jamir has consistently hurt defenses, taking those 16 reps per game and averaging over 100 yards per game. Robertson can break a game open inside and out, from anywhere on the field. If you’re having a tough time with Denmark and Beals, you only have Robertson and Howell to deal with. Tough for opposing defenses, to say the least.
Jason Patterson Jason Patterson 6'3" | 230 lbs | LB Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA ‘s play has been a welcome surprise. The senior version of Patterson looks to be the best. This young man is playing with his head on fire, dominating from many different alignments, showing off a physique that has clearly been worked on. Patterson has always been looked at fondly by the site, yet the new film out of this young man has us shooting him back up our boards. 7.5 sacks to his name, Patterson is looking indistinguishable from Lyons and Montgomery when rushing around the edge, that’s one hell of a compliment. Accounting for over half of your team’s sacks alone is worth a rankings bump. More importantly, college coaches are learning a thing or two about this kid. He’s got more untapped potential that is waiting to surface.
Huge shout out to the vastly underrated Mao Howell Mao Howell RB Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA . Howell is practically splitting carries with Robertson, acting as the change of pace back that can make defenders look silly in the open field. Although Howell hasn’t run for the yardage Robertson has, Howell has looked equally fresh and elusive in his reps, while also scoring six times in six games. Having the tandem in the backfield is, you guessed it, unfair. Howell can provide pass-catching reps too, catching ten balls for 80 yards to add to his production on the ground.
Trey Woodley Trey Woodley 5'11" | 165 lbs | ATH Roman Catholic | 2024 State PA has acted as an outstanding second option in the passing game. Not many programs can say they have a better WR2 than Trey Woodley Trey Woodley 5'11" | 165 lbs | ATH Roman Catholic | 2024 State PA , whose talents have him ranked higher than many top wideouts across PA. Woodley has caught 15 passes for 235 yards, serving as a big-play threat whenever he’s targetted. Four of the 15 passes went for scores.
I’ve written time and time again about how special the Roman Catholic secondary is. They’ve proven to be just that. Will Felder, Jah Jah Boyd, Jaleel Davis-Shabazz Jaleel Davis-Shabazz 6'1" | 185 lbs | DB Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA , and Walt Clymer have all registered interceptions this year. Plugging in their tapes, you can see each prospect’s value beyond intercepting passes. Boyd has defended 5 passes, taking his one interception back to the house for a 90-yard pick-six. Mikey Preston Mikey Preston 5'11" | 170 lbs | DB Roman Catholic | 2024 State PA has been great in run support and pass coverage despite his lack of interceptions, the stats don’t tell the whole story.
Richard Mosley Richard Mosley 6'0" | 175 lbs | DB Roman Catholic | 2023 State PA has looked sharp on the field. He’s a newer name that we have to further evaluate, yet his tape is showing his capabilities as a cover man. Mosley’s tape shows two interceptions and a ton of PBUs. What’s icing on the cake for the senior is his abilities as a weapon on offense. There are a ton of mouths to feed on offense, yet the coaches can seemingly trust Mosley to catch passes and alleviate some of the pressure off Denmark and Woodley.
Unranked Standouts
- Rakeem Refile
- Chris Whittle
- Samir Thompson-Dean
- Edwin Figueroa
- CJ Vedomey
- Dazhaun Hopkins
Hopkins, Thompson-Dean, and Refile are all new names to me. I’m catching wind of their names, would love to do deeper dives on each kid and hopefully rank them in the future. Dazhaun Hopkins is sixth in tackles with 20, while securing an interception and two TFLs. Chris Whittle is presumably the acting kicker for Roman. I see 15 PATs made, would love to find more tape or a Hudl to see just how talented a kicker he is. Refile looks interesting from a build standpoint. 6’3, a good 300 pounds, Refile moves well enough to penetrate the backfield, he isn’t just a lane clogger. 4 TFLs on the year with 12 total tackles for the IDL.
