The tenth week of the season provided us yet another week full of outstanding performances. While it was hard to narrow down, these are the most impressive performances in the state of Kentucky that stood out in week ten.
Kris Hughes Kris Hughes 6’0″ | ATH Union County | 2023 State KY is a player that has jumped onto my radar this season. He continued to impress this past Friday with a very strong performance. Hughes had another impressive game at his natural position of wide receiver, catching seven passes for 143 yards. Hughes was extremely dangerous after the catch on screen passes, using his speed and elusiveness in the open field to turn a short pass into a huge gain. He also made an impact as a ball carrier, running the ball two times for 123 yards and a touchdown. Kris was able to use his speed to get to the outside and turn up the field to run away from the defense. He was also electric on special teams, returning a punt for a touchdown on Friday. Hughes doesn’t currently hold any offers but I could see some coming soon as he has received a solid amount of college interest and has the talent to play somewhere at the next level.
Evan Brown Evan Brown 6’0″ | 160 lbs | ATH Lexington Christian Academy | 2023 State KY has truly caught my eye this season and continued to impress this past Friday. While we have him listed as a defensive back, he makes a huge impact on both sides of the ball. Brown shined the brightest on offense at receiver on Friday, catching 12 passes for 211 yards and a touchdown. He was a huge threat in the deep passing game, using his speed to create separation from his defender. Brown was able to catch passes in stride and run away from the defense after the catch. He also showed impressive route running skills with quick breaks and the ability to change direction without breaking stride which helped him keep his defender on their toes and create early separation. Evan currently holds an offer from Campbellsville but I wouldn’t be surprised to see more come as he has the talent to play on either side of the ball at the college level.
Tanner Wright Tanner Wright 5’10” | 190 lbs | RB Southwestern | 2023 State KY is an electric play maker that has been high on my radar for a while. The senior running back put on quite a show this past Friday, carrying the ball 25 times for 217 yards and three touchdowns. He did a great job of running downhill and bursting through the running lane as soon as it opened up. Wright showed tremendous strength, keeping his legs churning through contact to break tackles. Once he hit the open field, Wright showed the speed to run away from the defense. While he shined the brightest on offense, Wright also played some defensive back, recording one tackle and one pass break up on Friday. Tanner doesn’t currently hold any offers but should be getting more attention from college coaches as he has the potential to be a very good player at the next level.
Kangakole Jean Aime Kangakole Jean Aime 6’1″ | LB Warren Central | 2023 State KY is a player that has jumped onto my radar this season. The senior outside linebacker had yet another impressive game this past weekend, finishing with 19 tackles, nine tackles for loss, one interception, and a forced fumble. Jean Aime lines up from a stand up outside linebacker spot and does a great job of using his speed to run right by opposing offensive linemen as a pass rusher. He also does a good job of timing his blitzes when shooting a gap. Once he gets to the ball, Kangakole does a great job of running his feet through contact and finishing his tackles with a ton of physicality. Kangakole also showed the ability to drop into coverage and read the play which helped him to break on the ball at the perfect time to come away with an interception. While he doesn’t currently hold any offers, more college coaches should be paying attention to him as he has the skill set to develop into a special player at the next level.
I’ve had Mykel Malone Mykel Malone 5’11” | 190 lbs | RB Fern Creek | 2024 State KY on my watch list for a while now and he found a way to grab my attention this past Friday. Malone had a very impressive outing, rushing for 214 yards and two touchdowns. He has great patience as a ball carrier, waiting on the running lane to open up. Once a lane opens, he explodes through it and shows the speed to run away from the defense once he hits the open field. Malone also shows impressive strength as a ball carrier, keeping his legs churning through contact to break tackles without breaking stride.
Cole Crampton
Cole Crampton
Cole Crampton is a player that I hadn’t gotten the chance to watch before Friday but he found a way to make a great first impression. Crampton had a very strong performance on Friday, running the ball 26 times for 304 yards and three touchdowns. Once he hits the open field, Crampton has impressive elusiveness with the ability to make defenders miss. He also has shown the speed to run away from the defense and strength to run through tackles. Cole doesn’t currently hold any offers but college coaches should have their eyes on him as he has the talent to be a successful running back at the next level.
A player that has continuously found himself listed as one of my top performers is senior quarterback from West Jessamine, Jacob Jones Jacob Jones 6’2″ | 200 lbs | QB West Jessamine | 2023 State KY . Our top ranked quarterback in the class of 2023 put on a nice show on Friday, completing 12/16 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown. Jones puts a strong amount of zip on his passes showing the ability to fit passes into tight windows where only his receivers can catch it. He also throws an impressive deep ball, showing the ability to lead his receivers down the field and hit them in stride on their way to the end zone. While he was solid as a passer, Jones did most of Friday’s damage on the ground, running the ball 16 times for 214 yards and six touchdowns, Jones is used frequently in read option and quarterback draw situations and he is able to use his speed to run right by the defense for big gains. He has also shown the elusiveness to make defenders miss and strength to run straight through them as a ball carrier. Jacob currently holds offers from Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky, Fairmont State, and Pikeville but more should come as he has true Division I level talent.
Highlights
Aiden Johnson
Aiden Johnson
A player that I hadn’t gotten to see play yet but jumped onto my radar this past Friday is sophomore defensive lineman Aiden Johnson from Fleming County. Johnson had a very impressive performance on Friday, finishing with 17 tackles, four tackles for loss, and three sacks. He is a very dangerous pass rusher from the defensive tackle spot, using an impressive rip move to fight through blocks on his way to the quarterback. Once he gets to the quarterback, he does a great job of finishing with a ton of physicality. Against the run, he uses his quick first step out of his stance to burst into the backfield to disrupt the play before the opposing offensive lineman has a chance to block him. He gets to the ball in a hurry and is a very reliable open field tackler. Aiden doesn’t currently hold any offers but he should definitely be a player to watch over the next few years.
Montavin Quisenberry Montavin Quisenberry 5’9″ | 160 lbs | ATH Boyle County | 2025 State KY is a player that has made quite the name for himself this season. The junior play maker continued to impress in multiple areas on Friday. On offense, he had four carries for 129 yards and a touchdown. He has great vision and once he bursts through the running lane, he has blazing speed which he uses to run away from the defense. Quisenberry also has the quickness in the open field to make cuts on a dime to make defenders miss in the open field. He also showed reliability in the passing game, catching an 18-yard pass for a touchdown. Quisenberry was also very electric on special teams, returning a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown. He also had two tackles on defense as a defensive back. Montavin holds offers from Kentucky and Louisville, and I expect that list to continue to grow as he has the potential to become a very highly sought after prospect.
