Avondale (1-1) @ Seaholm (2-0)
I’ll be at this game. Both teams seem to have improved from last season, and Avondale has emerged as my favorite to win the OAA Gold. There have always been plenty of Seaholm-Avondale connections with some good matchups, and I’m excited to see my alma mater face off against the team I coached for during 2020.
I’ll have an eye on Tyler Herzog, Deshawn Robinson, Kyle Robbins, John Jokisch, and the whole Seaholm O-Line.
Rochester (0-2) @ Bloomfield Hills (0-2)
Both of these teams were expected to make the playoffs but found themselves in hot water early on.
Rochester suffered a rough opening loss to Utica and went on to lose to rival Rochester Adams last week. This weekend I expect Alex Bueno to play a great game and play to his potential.
Bloomfield Hills has lost against two good teams in Stoney Creek and Seaholm. The name of their game is usually the offense, so I’ll hope to see some firepower against a team that’s given up 30.5PPG so far this season.
Southfield A&T (1-1) @ Harper Woods (1-1)
I don’t know how Isaiah Marshall isn’t everyone’s Player of the year so far, already having surpassed the century mark in passing through 2 games. He and the A&T offense have been putting up video game numbers, yet they’re 1-1 having faced two powerhouse programs. On paper A&T is the stronger team with Tashi Braceful, Aaron Bradley, along others.
Harper Woods fell to West Bloomfield last week 33-14, which isn’t a shamefully result based on WBs state power. Jacob Oden is the prime athlete to watch for the Pioneers, alongside some impressive young talent. Considering how good Harper Woods defense is on paper, it’s an exciting opportunity for them to face off against the best offense in the state.
North Farmington (0-2) @ Troy (2-0)
The Raiders of North Farmington are in trouble after an ugly week 1 loss to Groves, and being demolished by Caledonia, one of the best teams in Michigan. The prospect of starting the season 0-3 worries me if I’m a North Farmington fan. Ryan Shelby needs to stay consistent, while the defense as a whole needs to step it up after giving up 102 points in 2 weeks.
Troy heads into this one 2-0, but both of their wins have come against teams currently 0-2. North Farmington will be the best team they’ve played, and their athletes will be tested a bit more. GVSU commit Darius Whiteside II is the man to watch for Troy.
