Highlights
This marked the first time I got a chance to see Steelton Highspire live and in person. I couldn’t pass up the chance to see this group perform under the lights, especially when five other star-studded games were set to kick off after the final whistle. Going into this one, I fully expected Alex and Andrew Erby to stand out early and often. This wasn’t necessarily the case, especially early, as Bishop Canevin made things difficult for both the quarterback and the offensive lineman. As the game progressed, so did the Erby twins’ impact on the game. Andrew was a constant push on both sides of the ball, especially along the interior of the offensive line. Many backs saw light in the trenches due to powerful down blocks made by Erby Jr. Alex utilized his legs well early on, eventually settling down and finding a grove through the air. It goes to show just how talented this Roller team is, beating a BC program with both Erby twins not playing at their very best.
Many Rollers upped their stock. Names like Sean Bennett Jr. Sean Bennett Jr. 6’0″ | 215 lbs | DL Steelton-Highspire | 2024 State PA , Durrell Ceasar Durrell Ceasar 6’1″ | 180 lbs | WR Steelton-Highspire | 2024 State PA , and DaQuan McCraw DaQuan McCraw 6’2″ | 190 lbs | WR Steelton Highspire | 2023 State PA looked to perform past their rankings Friday night. Running back Ronald Burnette also impressed when given reps.
The Ceasar and McCraw duo looked solid. From a production perspective, expect the two to have much better performances this Fall, yet still, I came away impressed with how both looked in the open field, especially against this loaded secondary. Separation was being made. Shout out to Sean Bennett Jr. Sean Bennett Jr. 6’0″ | 215 lbs | DL Steelton-Highspire | 2024 State PA , who seemingly aligned everywhere for the Rollers. I knew of Bennett’s versatility, good to see it put to the test this weekend.
No two prospects impressed me beyond their ranks more than Tyshaun Holland-Alli Tyshaun Holland-Alli 6’2″ | 225 lbs | DL Steelton-Highspire | 2023 State PA and Jakhai Noss Jakhai Noss 6’1″ | 200 lbs | ATH Steelton-Highspire | 2023 State PA .
Holland-Alli had himself a night at DE/OLB. Holland-Alli provided a blend of great run support and pass rush that BC couldn’t find an answer for. THA consistently moved his matchup off the ball, easily clogging lanes in the hole and often in the backfield for TFLs. Pursuit to the quarterback, matched with his power at the LOS, made rushing the passer a breeze. THA disrupted RPO sets run while Cross was at QB while also making Olszewski run for his life nearly every play in the fourth quarter.
Jakhai Noss Jakhai Noss 6’1″ | 200 lbs | ATH Steelton-Highspire | 2023 State PA is clearly underrated on our site. The top 350 rank is on its way to a top 250 rank after this performance. If Noss keeps this up, expect us to deliver a D1 grade. Noss was dominant throughout this contest. The senior RB/OLB had his hands in everything, scoring on an inside handoff at running back, scoring off a wheel route out of the backfield, and even securing an interception and returning it the distance for yet another score for the Rollers. You’d think scoring virtually every point would be enough, but it wasn’t. Noss continued to make open-field tackles against athletes that are smaller and faster than himself. Noss continued to pressure the quarterback off the edge. The clear-cut difference maker in this game, Noss showed up to play.
Jason Cross Jr Jason Cross Jr 6’2″ | 170 lbs | ATH Bishop Canevin | 2024 State PA . is already ranked as a top ten athlete in his class. Cross’s stock still climbs despite the high rank. Huge congratulations are for the junior, who picked up an Akron offer after the release of his game film. Much deserved, as Jason Cross turned in the best performance of any prospect not named Jakhai Noss Jakhai Noss 6’1″ | 200 lbs | ATH Steelton-Highspire | 2023 State PA . Awesome in run support all night from his safety spot. The young man has excellent play diagnosis ability, proving to be ready for passes or runs in his direction. Cross forced fumbles, interceptions. He showed he can come downhill, shed his block and bring down east-west runners. This was just his impact on defense. On the other side of the football, Cross was throwing passes, one of which went for a score. He was running RPO sets at QB. All of this, yet I can easily say Cross looks most natural at wide receiver and the SH secondary found that out in the second half. Cross was a blur in the open field, often making the first man miss after the catch. I can’t say enough about his game.
The next riser is Keyshawn McCaskill Keyshawn McCaskill 6’3″ | 190 lbs | DB Bishop Canevin | 2023 State PA , a prospect I saw over two years ago at a 7v7 event in Western PA. I liked McCaskill at the event but knew his skillset is best suited with pads on. I was correct. McCaskill made play after play in run support in the first half. The announcer must have called out McCaskill on 8+ tackles. What impressed me was his ability to provide BC reps at running back. The young man impressed me.
Two huge names on offense, outside of Jason Cross, were running back Marquis Carter and sophomore quarterback Kole Olszewski Kole Olszewski 5’11” | 175 lbs | QB Bishop Canevin | 2025 State PA . I think highly of both prospects, happy to see both come out and perform at a high level. Carter looked exactly like he did on tape. Slim and slippery through the trenches, then physical enough to put an exclamation point at the end of his runs. The same breakaway speed was seen as well. Carter was a consistent gainer all night. A soothing go-to for the BC offense.
Olszewski’s rank as the 13th-best quarterback is more of a realization as to how good the quarterback class is. Despite the larger pool of great QBs, I can’t help but place this kid higher next update. Poise was through the roof. The young man had every reason to fold under pressure. BC was down late, Olszewski was calm. Steelton pas rush was inevitable, Olszewski was calm. Even as time trickled away, Olszewski was calm. Kole led the Canevin offense into scoring territory time and time again, despite the Roller defense standing tall time and time again. Olszewski’s poise and improvisational skills will stick with me. The sophomore quarterback also flashed command and power as a passer, launching one ball 50+ yards with the rush bearing down his neck.
