It’s the month of July and that means it’s preview time! Throughout the month of July, we are publishing 100 team previews to get you ready for the 2022 season. This is something that began last year and has become even bigger and better this year. We’re looking forward to diving deep into the top teams across the state. From defending champs, to top contenders and dark horses, we’ll have complete coverage every single day with new teams from Class 6A down to A. In this post, we take a look at the Plainview Indians. The Indians made it to the title game in 2019 and they’re hungry to make a return trip to Edmond this fall.
<span style="font-size: 24pt;"><strong>Plainview Indians (3A Preseason Ranking: #5)</strong></span>
The Plainview Indians have been one of the top teams in Class 3A over the last five seasons and this year will be no different. Plainview comes in at #5 in our preseason rankings for Class 3A and have high expectations for what they can be in 2022. This comes a year after going 8-4 on the season. Plainview definitely hit some bumps in the road in 2021. The Indians went 0-2 to kick off the season but would be able to turn things around. However, an upset loss to Lone Grove in week seven would cost them a third loss and make their playoff journey a little more difficult. They ran into a buzzsaw in the postseason against Verdigris and had their season come to an end in the quarterfinals. However, they kept their playoff streak alive and their streak within the streak. More on that later on in the preview. Now the focus shifts to the 2022 season and with a talented mix of seniors, juniors and sophomores, the Indians expect to be in the mix again.
Plainview brings back five starters on the offensive side of the ball and six starters return on defense. We expect the Indians to be somewhat explosive on the offensive side but they do need to find a new quarterback to step into that role. The skill positions are taken care of and they have some solid pieces along the offensive line. Then you flip it to the defense and once again, they have a good mix of players throughout the defense and have the potential to be somewhat improved from last season. Plainview will be determined to get the season off with wins and avoid a slow start. We expect Plainview to be one of the better teams once again in Class 3A this fall.

<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Players To Watch</strong></span>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="360247" first="Blake" last="Stewart"] - 2024 Running Back/Linebacker</strong>
A new player in the Plainview lineup this fall will be 2024 running back and linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="360247" first="Blake" last="Stewart"]. He’s moved to Plainview and immediately gives the Indians a boost on the offensive and defensive side of the ball. The coaches at Plainview believe that Stewart is the next Plainview prospect that could end up at the D1 level. Whether it’s as a running back or linebacker, that remains to be seen. But he’s definitely going to add some production to the offensive side of the ball and the Indians will need his abilities at linebacker to replace a valuable prospect like Caden Pickens. Look for Stewart to give the Indians immediate production.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="38782" first="Morgan" last="Pearson"] - 2023 Athlete</strong>
One of the most versatile prospects in Oklahoma is Plainview’s 2023 standout [player_tooltip player_id="38782" first="Morgan" last="Pearson"]. For the first few years of his high school career, Pearson was one of the best wide receiver prospects in the 2023 class. Don’t get us wrong, he still is and we think that his best position is wide receiver but he’s proven this offseason he’s a legitimate athlete that is getting recruited for multiple positions. He has legitimate D1 offers for several different positions and he’s been recruited in baseball as well. But when it comes down to where he’s most valuable, it’s hard to argue that there’s many in the state better than him at wide receiver.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="288687" first="Shepherd" last="Sisemore"] - 2025 Wide Receiver</strong>
Plainview has a few 2025 prospects that we already have our eye on and one that has a chance to be the next offensive playmaker is [player_tooltip player_id="288687" first="Shepherd" last="Sisemore"]. The Indians have had a good run of producing big playmaking wide receivers over the last few years. From Blake Nowell to [player_tooltip player_id="38782" first="Morgan" last="Pearson"] and Sisemore could be the next one up. While he still has to put on some muscle to go along with his length, the athleticism is certainly there and Sisemore could have an explosive sophomore season while teams try to figure out a way to limit Pearson. That should open the door for Sisemore to put up some serious numbers that grab attention.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="382437" first="Tyler" last="Winchester"] - 2023 Defensive Back</strong>
Here’s another 2023 prospect to keep an eye on as he’s emerged as a defensive back prospect who’s recruitment could skyrocket this fall. Plainview’s [player_tooltip player_id="382437" first="Tyler" last="Winchester"] is incredibly experienced coming into this season and he’s also grown, while keeping his speed. He’s one of the fastest players on the team and one of the hardest hitters as well. Winchester is going to be a name that colleges start noticing as he puts together a strong senior season. Plainview’s goal is to compete for a state championship and having a player like Winchester will certainly help that. We expect him to be one of the top DB’s in Class 3A this fall.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>More Names To Know</strong></span>
Ethan Douglas - 2023 Defensive Lineman
Garrett Keith - 2023 Offensive Lineman
Jared Trotts - 2024 Offensive/Defensive Lineman
[player_tooltip player_id="353413" first="Justus" last="Gilliam"] - 2025 Defensive Lineman
Matt Hanna - 2023 Defensive Lineman
Will Morris - 2023 Defensive Back

<strong><span style="font-size: 14pt;">2022 Schedule/Games To Circle</span></strong>
Sept. 2 - AT Pilot Point, TX.
Sept. 9 - Newcastle
Sept. 16 - AT Comanche
Sept. 23 - AT Douglass
Sept. 30 - Dickson
Oct. 7 - AT Lone Grove
Oct. 13 - Pauls Valley
<strong>Oct. 21 - AT Heritage Hall</strong>
- Week eight begins a three week stretch to close out the regular season that will make or break Plainview’s season. The Indians have a really good shot at being undefeated when they have to hit the road and travel to Oklahoma City to face off with perennial power Heritage Hall. The Chargers have moved into Plainview’s district after the redistricting shuffle and just like that we get a top five match-up in Class 3A. These two are the favorites in this district coming into the season and the district championship could very well be decided here as the Indians square off with the Chargers. The winner is in the driver’s seat for the district crown.
Oct. 28 - Marlow
<strong>Nov. 4 - Sulphur</strong>
- Despite the redistricting shuffle, one southern Oklahoma rivalry will stay in tact as Plainview and Sulphur remain district foes for at least the next two seasons. Two weeks after the showdown with Heritage Hall and one week after facing off with the defending 2A champs from Marlow, the Indians will play host to Sulphur in the final week of the regular season. Plainview could be in a position to win the district championship if they come into this game with Sulphur and have no losses on the district record. A win here can lock up the district title while a loss, depending on what’s happened throughout the year, could put them in a tough spot.

<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Notable</strong></span>
Plainview has one of the longer active playoff streaks in Oklahoma with 18 consecutive trips to the postseason. However, one thing that might be more impressive than that number is the streak within the streak. The Indians have won at least one playoff game in 12 consecutive playoff appearances. You have to go all the way back to 2009 to find the last time Plainview got tripped up in the first round of the playoffs. The Indians are going to be contending for a district championship this fall but one thing is certain and that’s that the Indians expect to be in the postseason. And after the last decade, we wouldn’t feel too good if we had to play the Indians in the first round of the playoffs. But Plainview won’t be satisfied with just one playoff win. They want a return trip to UCO and finally capture that elusive gold ball.
