<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="215196" first="Dax" last="Collins"] - Poteau</strong></span>
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>(Ranked #17 Overall - #1 ATH)</strong></span>
Coming up in July and August, we’ll have a ton of preview content for the 2022 season and they’ll include plenty of bold predictions for this fall. We’ll give you one right here with our #1 ATH prospect in Poteau’s [player_tooltip player_id="215196" first="Dax" last="Collins"]. The young Poteau star will have a junior season similar to the one that McAlester’s [player_tooltip player_id="91049" first="Erik" last="McCarty"] had last year. We’re not saying Collins will be the Player Of The Year like McCarty was last year. But we think he’ll put up numbers and be just as explosive as McCarty was last fall. We think that when you watch Poteau this fall, Collins will be the biggest playmaker every time out and whether it’s offense or defense, he’ll be making plays every week. So it goes without saying that we are bought in on Collins and there’s a reason why he’s the #1 ATH in the latest rankings. We think he’s primed to have a very big 2022 season and will climb up the overall rankings in October.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="129399" first="Kayden" last="McGee"] - Muskogee</strong></span>
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>(Ranked #19 Overall - #2 ATH)</strong></span>
It would be tough to find another 2024 prospect that we’ve seen more in the last two years than Muskogee standout [player_tooltip player_id="129399" first="Kayden" last="McGee"]. The Rougher standout had an excellent sophomore season and continued to build off a strong freshman year. Now as he heads into his junior season, McGee feels like a complete veteran and he’s coming off an offseason where he’s added more skills to his game. He’s going to be a dangerous playmaker at the wide receiver position for the Rougher offense this fall but they’ll also get more out of McGee on defense. McGee had an outstanding offseason while playing safety for Sooner 7 and got plenty of work at defensive back over the last six months. While he was raw at the beginning of that time frame, he came out of it pretty polished and will give the Roughers another playmaker in their secondary when he gets a chance to play on that side of the ball.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="215197" first="Cannon" last="Wood"] - Piedmont</strong></span>
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>(Ranked #28 Overall - #3 ATH)</strong></span>
Piedmont’s [player_tooltip player_id="215197" first="Cannon" last="Wood"] is the perfect prospect for the "Athlete" position tag because he can impact a game in a variety of ways and it doesn’t feel right to categorize him in just one position. Wood can be called just a football player when you check him out on film. He’s physical and on offense can make plays. Piedmont has had a few of these type of prospects in their program over the last few seasons and it’s apparent to us that Wood is the next guy up. He had a strong sophomore season and has continued that momentum this offseason. That’s the good news. The bad news is that Piedmont is in an absolutely brutal district in Class 5A and the competition week in and week out will be some of the best to watch. Wood will certainly be tested against teams like Bishop McGuinness and Carl Albert and then other dark horse teams within the district as well.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="202153" first="Anthony" last="Watson"] - Muskogee</strong></span>
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>(Ranked #39 Overall - #4 ATH)</strong></span>
The second Muskogee Rougher on the list is [player_tooltip player_id="202153" first="Anthony" last="Watson"]. When we got a chance to see Watson this offseason, while playing for Sooner 7, he really impressed us as a hybrid offensive playmaker. He’s a big body so he might be more of a tight end but he also has speed and some quickness and the hands were incredibly reliable. We only saw Watson a few times this offseason but we don’t remember him dropping many passes and that definitely stood out to us. Similar to Wood at Piedmont, Watson is just a football player and someone who will be able to play at the next level. What that position is? Well, that’s still up for debate. But one thing is for sure with Watson and McGee returning this fall, along with several other young playmakers. Muskogee is a dark horse to do some real damage in 6A-2. And when it happens, remember where you heard that first.
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="360241" first="Sam" last="Rhoades V"] - Bishop Kelley</strong></span>
<span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>(Ranked #42 Overall - #5 ATH)</strong></span>
Along the same lines of Wood and Watson is Bishop Kelley standout [player_tooltip player_id="360241" first="Sam" last="Rhoades V"]. This Bishop Kelley prospect is big at 6’4 and just looks like a physical football player, passing just about any eye test. The thing that we really like about Rhoades is the potential he has this fall and next. Bishop Kelley always gets the absolute most out of their roster and the top players always emerge and have productive seasons. We’re very interested to see how the Comets use Rhoades and his size and physicality. Whether it’s on offense or defense, we always trust Bishop Kelley to get the most out of their players and Rhoades should definitely benefit from that. As far as being a prospect for the next level, it’s hard to project him at just one position at this point. What he does on the field this fall will certainly help that projection moving forward.
