As freshmen turning sophomore’s, scholarships and recruiting are more rare than common. At this point in their careers the focus should be skill and body development as well as trying to earn a varsity starting position or playing time. That being said it’s my job to find the kids who have that caliber of talent to play at the next level, here are some kids who have seen D1 interest and some who have not. That being said I’m excited to see each this fall and how they’ve developed and grown their games.
EDGE Napoleon Jemison (Whitmer) 6’2 181- Jemison has really good length and show’s a good burst off the edge. For his lanky frame he was surprisingly stout. Whitmer would even move him inside from time to time. His get-off, acceleration, and pursuit traits are top shelf. Right now, he’s winning at the POA mostly with his natural athletic ability. As he continues to grow and get strong and learns how to win with technique the sky is going to be the limit. He just picked up an offer from his hometown school the Toledo Rockets.
WR Jackson Wiley (Olentangy) 6’0 165- Wiley is a slender receiver with good length. He has good high-end speed that allows him to create separation. He does a great job of tracking and adjusting to the deep ball. He needs to get stronger but is already wiry strong. As for any young wide receiver there’s room for growth in his route running. I’d like to see more attention to his explosiveness and detail in and out of his breaks. As he continues to work on his craft and fill out and get stronger it’s easy to see that Wiley has a ton of potential! He’s already seen interest from Cincinnati.
ATH Trey McNutt (Shaker Heights) 5’11 157- When you put on McNutt’s film the first thing that comes to mind is the word EXPLOSIVE. Whether he’s running the ball out of the offensive backfield or flying around in the defensive backfield it’s easy to see that Trey’s acceleration and speed are on another level from most. At this point I like him more on the defensive side of the ball as a safety. He plays well in space and does a good job of read/react. McNutt currently holds an offer from the University of Toledo. I expect his interest to continue to grow.
EDGE Dimarion Gill Dimarion Gill 6'4" | 230 lbs | LB Glenville | 2025 OH (Lutheran West) 6’3 205- Gill is one of my favorite 2025’s. He posses an elite size/speed combo that he uses to win the edge. Despite his ability to win the edge with his speed, he plays with great awareness and shows a high football IQ for a freshman. At this point you can see times where he questions himself. You can tell he doesn’t even know how good he can be yet. I’m very excited to see him develop and take on the mentality of dominating every play! I expect him to start picking up D1 offers this offseason, and as he continues to fill out and get stronger there is no doubt in my mind that Dimarion is a Power 5 kid.
DE Ashton Yeager (Findlay) 6’2 225- Yeager started on D1 Findlay team that went 9-4 and won 2 games in the OHSAA playoffs. The incoming sophomore has a great frame that he can continue to build and develop. He understands leverage and has an advanced level of technique for someone coming off their freshman year. So, when you watch him it’s no surprise that he wins with power and technique. Again, pretty impressive for a freshman going up against many 2 and 3 years older than he. Ashton is a worker and I expect him to continue to add weight and strength. One area that he can improve on is his explosiveness, but I expect that to come with time and development. I think Ashton has D1 potential.
Tavien St. Clair Tavien St. Clair 6'4" | 195 lbs | QB Bellefontaine | 2025 State OH (Bellefontaine) 6’3 185- St. Clair has really burst onto the D1 Power 5 recruiting scene this offseason. Tavien already has prototypical D1 QB size as a sophomore. When watching his film it’s easy to see why he’s landed P5 offers by Tennessee, Pitt, and most recently Iowa State. The athleticism and arm talent stand out. He can throw with velocity and he can throw with touch. He’s able to make plays both in structure and out of structure. At this point he really just needs to continue to grow, get stronger, and refine his craft. As Saint Clair continues to develop I expect the P5 offers to continue to roll in. Tavien should be right there with my top Quarterbacks in Ohio’s 2025.
