Here in part 2 we will highlight 2023 class gems at the position that have the skill to play at the next level.
WR/SS/CB/RB RJ Votruba, Garden City HS, 2023
Rj stands at 6’0 and weighs just about 185 pounds. He is a solid size receiver who has well developed skill at his position. The team captain lines up on both sides of the ball for his team. When he is not making game changing tackles and interceptions on the defensive end, he is finding the endzone as the primary receiver. He has a smooth release off the line and has great field vision to adjust his routes to find holes in the defense. He is sure to be open on almost every play no matter the coverage. He is strong enough to catch in traffic and can use his acceleration to break away from defenders. He thrives on jet sweeps and go routes but can run anything on the route tree. Rj has a high ceiling and while he is getting noticed by a few schools such as Amherst and Trinity College, his skillset has the potential to take him much further.
WR/DB Calvin Crews Jr. Port Jervis HS 2023
Calvin has next level talent and plays with great energy and effort on the field. He is a gem at the receiver position and a big play waiting to happen when he is on the field. The 3-sport athlete stands at 6’1 and weighs 180 pounds. He has 1053 all purpose yards as his athleticism is on display as return man on special teams and even out of the backfield. His field awareness and is next level. His 862 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns was a top ten performance among all receivers in the state in his 2021 junior season. Despite this, Calvin currently has no offers from D1 programs.
WR/DB Dylan Braithwaite Dylan Braithwaite 5'10" | 175 lbs | WR Holy Trinity | 2023 State NY Holy Trinity HS
Dylan 5’10 170 and has track-like speed in the 4.3 range 40 yard dash. He is an elite route runner who does very well on go routes, screens and crossing routes over the middle. He is excellent on a catch and run situations where he can use his speed to find the end zone. He scored 9 touchdowns in 2021 season with 701 receiving yards on only 30 receptions. He has elite level play making ability, great hands and great field vision and awareness. We would like to see him stronger as a more developed blocker and utilize his skillset in more routes. Dylan has been putting in work in multiple camps and showcases this offseason to improve his game and get the recognition he deserves. He is a top talent in the state and power 5 worthy. He currently has offers from Univ. of Richmond and UNH.
WR/TE/DE John Benke Tuckahoe HS 2023
John was named All-State First Team Offense and Defensive All-League MVP. He is a play maker for both the offense and defensive but his versatility and skillsets lie deep within offensive schemes. He is 6’3 a little over 200 pounds and plays with max effort on every play. He is a versatile receiver who has all the tools to play at the next level. His next level size and strong hands are well on display making him a sure target for 45 catches and 9 touchdowns in his 2021 junior season. Although he has much success lining up at the tightend spot, he can also lineup out wide. As the X, he shows great route running skills, adjusting to holes in coverage, and showing great footwork to gain separation at the break points. John is also a very good blocker as he is able to seal the edges, turn his man for running lanes, and can get to the second and third levels to take defenders out of the play. Lookout for him to make an even bigger impact this Fall and catch eyes of college coaches.
WR Gjok Dedvukaj Gjok Dedvukaj 6'1" | 185 lbs | WR Salisbury School | 2024 State New E , Archbishop Stepinac HS, 2023
Gjok has next level quickness to get in and out of breaks and great field vision to constantly get open. He is 6’1 and weighs 185 pounds with amazing body control. He can go up and make the contested catch with strong hands with the ability to turn his body around, regain balance and use his burst of speed towards the end zone. Gjok is a great weapon for short yardage situations when the qb needs to get the ball out quick, he understands timing of his routes and is the ideal Z receiver. He also has the ability to be even more of a downfield threat with his speed. He had a productive junior season with over 640 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns. When he does not have the ball in his hands, he is a strong and willing blocker who makes way for many big plays to happen for his team. He will be an exciting player to watch this Fall as he spins and jukes his way into another highlight reel for D1 coaches.
