Continue ReadingNew York natives and NFL stars Dominique Easley and Isaiah Wilson are examples of the abundance of high level talent at the defensive line position in the Empire State. The defense attack starts in the trenches and the biggest and most athletic guys will usually win. But what about those who bring more to the table? Those who have the size, craftiness and the smarts in the position to disrupt the offensive game plan. We have already mentioned Tariq Blanding (Christ the King) and Dilon Fontus (Carnasie) who are top prospects, but here are some other names you may not know:
G/DT Rahard Perry 2023, Bennet, 2023
Rahard is dominant in the defensive front. He is 6’3 245 with very low body fat. . Even as teams usually have to double team him with their lineman, Rashard wins on almost every play. He has a great release off the line as he is a dangerous combination of strength speed and explosion. He has a great recognition for pass or run plays with great pursuit to drive his man and shed the block. He is the most physically dominant defensive lineman in the state but he does not just rely on his athletic ability. He has great football smarts to shoot the correct gaps to make a play in the backfield. He leads the state of New York with 24 sacks in his 2021 junior year. He also had 123 tackles (T-10th most) with 25 TFL. Rahard has a very high ceiling not only to be recruited to a D1 program but potential to become one of the best at his position at that level and beyond. We look forward to seeing him his 2022 senior season to prove he is one of the best players in the country and dominate the high school level even more.
DE/OLB Abdoul Idrissa, Erasmus Hall, 2023
Abdoul exploded on the scene in 2020 with 9 sacks (T-2nd most) in the shortened and challenging season. He is 6’3 long and weighs just a little over 230 pounds. He has great strength and speed and can win his matchups in many different ways. Abdoul has violent use of hands, using swim moves, rips and his overall athletic ability to control and move his man to disrupt the play in the backfield. He is excellent against the run and does really well as 3-tech. He uses good leverage to get around tackles to collapse the pocket on the QB. He also has experience dropping back in coverage also which makes him really versatile weapon. He has a high ceiling and could be even more of a threat to opposing offenses this Fall as he solidifies to D1 programs why he is one of the top defensive talents in the state of New York.
Isaiah Moonschein, University Prep 2024
Isaiah led his team in sacks with 6.5 and 5 hurries in just his sophomore year. He totaled 42 tackles (29 solo) with 7 TFL. Isaiah is 5’10 and weighs just a little over 210 pounds. Although not the biggest, he has great strength to not only hold his ground against tackles but can control his man and use crafty moves to
get by and make a play. He does really well as a 3 technique using his 2 point stance to get a good release and is great against run or pass with above average recognition ability. If he can add even more speed and power this offseason, Isaiah can have a great chance to play at the next level. We are expecting a breakout junior season this Fall 2022.
DE/DT Wayne Coleman Archbishop 2023
Wayne 6’2 300 pounds and can move with quickness and good lateral ability. He has good explosion off the line and is a sure tackler bringing his strength and power to the forefront to stop the ball carrier or QB. He has 77 tackles (45 solo) in his 2021 junior year. He also sacked the QB 4 times and added 4 TFL on a team that is T-2nd most in the state in tackles and sacks. He has the versatility to play any technique and has success at nose. He has great instincts and recognition of pass or run plays. Wayne will have an opportunity to show why he is the one of the best defensive lineman in the state this Fall as Archbishop loses its senior defensive front.
DE/TE David Clement, CBA 2023
David is weighs 265 and stands just at 6’7. He bends really well for a guy his size. He gets a good release off the line and can maintain optimal position for leverage. He is great as pass rush, being powerful at point of attack and strong enough to control his blockers to shed any block to make the big play in the backfield. He has 64 tackles (35 solo), 21 TFL, and 7 sacks in his junior season. He is disruptive and a big time playmaker whenever he is on the field adding 2 pass deflections and a punt block to his resume. This is a testament to his quickness, recognition of run and pass plays, and hand skills. David has a very high ceiling and as he works this offseason on his craft he can be even more dominant force this fall for his senior tenure.
