As it stands, we have 5 teams in the running for OAA Blue champion, with each team facing many unique non-league matchups during the season. Here, I will just be predicting the OAA Blue as a league, which means only league matchups.
*record denotes league matchups
(4-0) Berkley
I realistically see Berkley sweeping the league. Sunny Kadlitz Sunny Kadlitz 6'0" | 155 lbs | QB Berkley | 2024 State MI has been steadily improving, while Savod Daniels looks to be the real deal at running back. The Bears have other great pieces such as Offensive Linemen Isaac Dawkins Isaac Dawkins 6'3" | 265 lbs | OL Berkley | 2023 MI and David Rolands. Even though I see Berkley winning the league, their final 3 contests look to be especially important for playoff seeding. Those games against on-paper superior teams will be a true measuring stick.
(3-1) Avondale
The Yellowjackets are in a position to win the Blue, but they’re going to have to play an amazing game against Berkley to do so. RT Deshawn Robinson is an incredible talent, and they’ve got a few 2025 stars that will likely start as well. LB Myles Moore Myles Moore 6'0" | 200 lbs | ATH Avondale | 2024 State MI has looked incredibly promising, but the X-Factor for them will be the play of QB Tyler Herzog Tyler Herzog 6'0" | 170 lbs | QB Avondale | 2024 State MI . If he can get it done, this team will go far in the Blue. As for their non-league games, it’s an opportunity to prove themselves as they face teams such as North Farmington and Birmingham Seaholm.
(2-2) Royal Oak
I’m confident placing Royal Oak here. The Ravens have talent, and I really believe they will beat Ferndale and Pontiac. Mekhi Jenkins is a very intriguing player who will be the X-Factor, though the team around him needs to step up as well. All in all, I don’t see Royal Oak having any sweeping changes that cause them to get much better or much worse.
(1-3) Ferndale
It’s been a bit of a fall from grace ever since Ferndale’s decent 2020 season. Jabari McCune is a true bright spot on this team, though it’s difficult to find many other players as passionate about the team as him, which is not a good sign. Ferndale has the talent in the school, there’s no doubt about it, though they need to get a rhythm going and win some games in 2022.
(0-4) Pontiac
Grand Rapids Union has had a great rise, and I really hope the Pontiac Pheonix can rise as well. This is a historic program that’s in a big lull, and I’m rooting for them all the way. I really hope that they can get something going.
