I look forward to watching these guys as a couple of these guys have two more years left of high school football still. Here is an early look at many of the top returning offensive lineman in the SEC Conference Red Division.
Ethan Manger | Temperance Bedford | 2023
Manger was selected first team All-Conference in 2021. Manger uses his quickness off the line of scrimmage to get out an pull effectively. He has good agility and shows the strength and balance to work through traffic and go block linebackers. Manger plays with good leverage, staying lower than opponents so he does not get driven back at the point of attack. Bedford plays Manger at right guard primarily and he is asked to run block often. I like how Manger can drive opponents onto the ground when Bedford runs double team blocks. Manger is a really good athlete who also plays on the defensive side of the football.
Connor Green | Temperance Bedford | 2024
Green uses his size an strength to drive defenders out of the play. I love how Green always keeps his feet driving to help him finish blocks. He has good balance and always stays on his feet. Green played at the left guard position for Bedford this past season. You can’t help but get excited about how good Green could be these next couple seasons. Bedford’s running backs will be looking forward to running behind Ethan Manger & Connor Green in 2022.
Breylon Richards | Monroe | 2024 | Hudl
Richards was named Honorable Mention All-Conference as just a Sophomore in 2021. Richards has great competitive toughness and gives tremendous effort on every play. On run plays, he pulls very effectively, squaring up defenders in a good athletic position. He is great at firing rapidly to engage defenders before they even have a chance to get out of their stance. He has a powerful hands and lower body. This is on full display when levels defenders and then drives them into the ground. Richards still has two more years of high school football left. I look forward to seeing what he does next year in his junior season.
Leo Nicio | Ann Arbor Huron | 2023 | Hudl
Nicio is always working to keep his legs and feet driving on every play. He does a great job in pass protection and rarely ever lets defenders get around him. He has good size at the guard position at 6-2, 290 lbs. He is a versatile player who can also play tackle as well. His size and strength creates a huge mismatch for opposing linebackers. There are many times he will drive a linebacker to the ground or out of the play entirely. Nicio is great at helping to execute double team blocks as well. This Ann Arbor Huron team returns many starters from last year. Nicio coming back is critical for their playmakers on offense to have time to make plays. I’m excited to watch Huron in 2022.
