This next season, we’ll see many QB’s take the field to lead their team. Today, I’m highlighting four Sophomore Quarterbacks who are all gearing up for impressive Junior seasons.
Connor Wolf Connor Wolf 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Grand Rapids Catholic Central | 2024 State MI – Catholic Central
I’ve already mentioned Wolf as a QB poised for a breakout season, which comes with plenty of reason. First and foremost, Wolf has shown fantastic skill during camps this offseason. He demonstrates better fundamentals and throwing mechanics than the vast majority of QB’s in Michigan, and he’s shown to be accurate and react quickly. Secondly, it’s the simple fact that Catholic Central has won 3 straight state titles, with no signs of slowing down. Wolf will be starting his first season under center with elite weapons around him, in addition to an elite coaching staff.
Casey Joppie Casey Joppie 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB East Kentwood | 2024 State MI – East Kentwood
A star on the Gridiron and the Diamond, Casey Joppie Casey Joppie 6'1" | 180 lbs | QB East Kentwood | 2024 State MI has performed well during offseason camps as he gears up for another Baseball season. Joppie has a smooth throwing motion and has been proven to fit the ball into tight windows. East Kentwood will be relying on Joppie quite a bit this coming season, and I’m curious to see how he improves from last year.
Alek Wickstrom Alek Wickstrom 5'11" | 155 lbs | QB West Catholic | 2024 State MI – Grand Rapids Christian
Having thrown for just under 2,000 yards his sophomore season, Wickstrom wants to lead GR Christian to new heights. The way I see it, Wickstrom played very well against every opponent. He took Forest Hills Central to overtime while scoring 21 points on a historic Unity Christian defense. His throwing mechanics are good, and he makes intelligent decisions. I expect Wickstrom to look even better in 2022 and build off their playoff win.
M"Khi Guy – Muskegon
I honestly don’t know too much about Guy, but what I do know is that he’s been making waves in practice and during JV competitions. From what I can tell, M"Khi Guy is a perfect QB for the Muskegon system as he’s able to pass the ball as well as take it on a read-option. He’s balling out for the Big Reds Basketball squad, and I expect Guy to lead Muskegon’s offense to new heights. Seriously look out; Muskegon’s offense looks to be one of the best in recent memory.
