With the class of 2022 officially behind us, it's time to start taking a look at the class of 2023 starting with Pennsylvania's top five ranked quarterbacks in the class. Let's dive right in. No.1 [player_tooltip player_id="127382" first="Jaden" last="Keefner"] - Wyoming Seminary Prep Our top 2023 quarterback in the state is actually a native of Pittsfield, Massachusetts but is playing for Wyoming Seminary Prep in Kingston. To start, Keefner has the ideal size for a quarterback at 6-foot-2 and 215-pounds with the potential to still grow as well. The left-handed quarterback shows good ball placement with quality accuracy as well. His arm strength is solid and will improve as he continues to get bigger and once he gets into a college weightlifting program, should see that arm strength improve as well. He doesn’t get flustered when he needs to escape the pocket or moves around and does a great job of keeping his eyes down the field to find an open man. His ability to make throws on the run is impressive as well, including showing some strong passes off his back foot. He does have the ability to run the ball if needed but it’s not a huge part of his game, at least based on his HUDL tape. When he does take off out of the pocket, he’s tough to bring down and isn’t scared to lower his shoulder and take a hit in the process. Overall, Keefner is an impressive quarterback with the ability to play at the FCS or Group of Five level in my opinion. There are definitely parts of his game he’ll need to clean up and he won’t be able to get away with some of the throws he makes currently but there’s a lot to like about Keefner and he has considerable upside. Projection: FCS / Group of Five HUDL: Full Season Tape No.2 [player_tooltip player_id="64005" first="Cadin" last="Olsen"] - Armstrong Our No.2 quarterback in the class is Kittanning’s [player_tooltip player_id="64005" first="Cadin" last="Olsen"]. Olsen is a quarterback that seems to always be growing every time we check upon him, he now stands at 6-foot-5 and 215-pounds. Olsen has strong footwork in the pocket and shows really nice ball placement and accuracy in his throws to all levels, with strong-arm strength. He’s not afraid to make any sort of throw which can at times lead to interceptions but he certainly does not lack confidence. He does have the ability to run when needed but at the college level, he is a pro-style quarterback best designed to run when only necessary. In terms of his pure abilities as a quarterback, there’s plenty to like about Olsen and he has quite a bit of upside to his game that makes him an intriguing quarterback prospect. Projection: FCS / Group of Five HUDL: Junior Year Highlights No.3 [player_tooltip player_id="64011" first="Keyshawn" last="Morsillo"] - Westinghouse Another tall quarterback at 6-foot-3, Morsillo is definitely a quarterback flying a bit under the radar here heading into his senior season. The first thing that stands out on top for Morsillo is his arm strength, the ball comes out of his hand with nice velocity and shows a good ability to throw it downfield as well. His accuracy is good but can improve a bit while his ball placement is usually solid. A great athlete, Morsillo also plays wide receiver for Westinghouse and shows quality speed. His HUDL tape didn’t show a ton of him taking off from the pocket but given his abilities a wide receiver, it’s safe to say that when needed, he can escape the pocket and pick up large chunks of yardage. He shows quality poise in the pocket as well and even when he gets in trouble, does a great job of keeping his eyes downfield and looking for someone to get the ball to. Projection: FCS / Group of Five HUDL: Junior Season No.4 [player_tooltip player_id="99377" first="Colin" last="Schumm"] - William Penn Charter Continuing the trend of big-frame quarterbacks is William Penn’s [player_tooltip player_id="99377" first="Colin" last="Schumm"] who stands at 6-foot-4 and 215-pounds. Schumm has a big arm to go with his tall stature and shows some high-quality touch on his passes. For a player his size, he has some solid mobility, both in designed runs or escaping the pocket. There’s a ton to like about Schumm as a quarterback and he’s someone who could potentially rise higher on this list with our next update. Projection: FCS / Group of Five HUDL: Junior Year Highlights No.5 [player_tooltip player_id="91723" first="Lebryn" last="Smith"] - Kiski Area Our final quarterback in the ranking is Kiski Area’s [player_tooltip player_id="91723" first="Lebryn" last="Smith"]. Smith is a quality quarterback prospect who is probably better designated as an athlete. Either way, Smtih is a strong athlete who shows the ability to play multiple positions at a quality level. He shows quality arm strength but doesn’t have a ton of quarterback film to judge on HUDL but overall is a high-quality athlete who could probably play either quarterback or wide receiver at the next level. Projection: FCS HUDL: Junior Season Highlights
