Harper Creek will be hungry to get revenge this year on Lakeview. Last meeting ended with a 29-12 win in favor of Lakeview. Both of these teams went on to have tremendous seasons and playoff appearances. This year Harper Creek will travel to Lakeview week 1 for a big time non-conference matchup.
Harper Creek Players to Watch
Nick Martinez (Harper Creek, Defensive End, Hudl).
I love Martinez’s ability to take on blockers and set the edge at the defensive end position. Not only will he take on one blocker, he will take on multiple blockers and can effectively get off them on any give play. Martinez is a hard hitter who really has to keep ball carriers on their toes when they run in his direction. Lakeview will need to give Martinez attention to avoid having him terrorize their backfield.
KeyShaun Matthews (Harper Creek DB, WR, Hudl).
Matthews has great acceleration and is great at reading and reacting quickly to where the ball carrier is going. He has great leverage and leg drive when he comes up and makes tackles. He has recovery speed and you can tell both him and the coaches trust his speed to come back to the football by the way he can back pedal and then quickly fly up and make a play on the football.
Battle Creek Lakeview Players to Watch
Romele Reed (Battle Creek Lakeview, DB,RB Hudl)
Harper Creek is very familiar with Romele Reed. Last year, Reed broke a 53-yard touchdown run against Harper Creek. On the play, Reed showed great ability to read his blocks and then accelerate through the opening. Reed does a good job of keeping his shoulders square and getting downhill quickly. Harper Creek will need to make sure to fly up and get off blocks to make sure they can tackle Reed before he can get to the second level.
Jayden Dennis (Battle Creek Lakeview, DE, TE, Hudl)
Dennis loves to fly up and make tackles at the linebacker position. He has great size at 6-3, 245 lbs. He uses his size and strength well to finish tackles. He can navigate through traffic well and has the ability to effectively get off of blocks. He shows good instincts to read where the play is going. Harper Creek is a physical team that loves to run the football and Lakeview will need to need Dennis to work through blockers.
Andrew Berryhill (Battle Creek Lakeview, DT, C, Hudl)
Berryhill fires off the football fast and has the overall strength to push defenders back. He has good leverage and does a great job of extending his arms to control defenders. Berryhill also plays defensive tackle and does a tremendous job of controlling gaps and fighting off of blocks. Berryhill shows great ability to take on double teams and hold his ground. One way to tell you have a great defensive lineman is when their worst plays are stale mates. Andrew Berryhill never gets driven back and is always in a stale mate at worst. Harper Creek will likely need to double team Berryhill at times to prevent him from stuffing run plays.
