There was a good turnout for the New York offensive players at the Stock Up Showcase in New Jersey. Players performed positional work with the college coaches that helped the event. This piece will look at some of the performers on offense with new names to pay attention to in the coming seasons.
[player_tooltip player_id="253487" first="Jameer" last="Reeder"] RB Holy Trinity 2024
Reeder is a kid I watched this past season at LB and RB, so I had a decent grasp of his abilities. But watching him up close in individuals and competing in 1 on 1s at RB, I got to see his elusiveness in a camp setting. Reeder was smooth during the drills displaying good feet and vision. If you watch Reeder on film at LB, you can see how good his vision and instincts are and his time at RB help translate to the other side of the ball. Competing at RB at the camp, Reeder didn’t disappoint and had an impressive day making defenders miss in the open field. The only spoiled disappointment was not seeing him at LB because he is that good at both positions.
[player_tooltip player_id="211728" first="Alex" last="Menghi"] TE St. Anthony’s 2024
Menghi was a late addition to the offensive roster, and I was happy to see him make it out as it was my first time seeing him perform in person. The athletic TE hybrid has a good muscular frame and will easily pack on good weight as he is a training machine. Menghi was solid all day in positional drills and competition. He is a smooth route runner who quickly gets in and out of cuts, dropping his hips and staying balanced. His hands were strong and impressive, and I didn’t see any double-catching as he ran a diverse set of routes throughout the morning. Menghi is a versatile TE threat with a high ceiling that causes major mismatch issues for LBs and Safeties. I expect everyone will know his name soon.
[player_tooltip player_id="271007" first="Anthony" last="Valdez"] RB Long Island Lutheran 2024
The cat-quick Valdez flashed right away, displaying good footwork and that ability cut on a dime. He looked comfortable in every drill and rep that I witnessed and showed the awareness and poise of a veteran player. Valdez shined when it came to route running out of the backfield, and he was just too quick for most defenders in a 1 on 1 situation. He could easily be a flexed out in the slot as he runs clean routes get separation consistently, and had some of the best hands I saw of the RBs. At only a Sophomore, Valdez will continue to get bigger and stronger, and I look forward to watching him in the coming years as he is a dynamic player.
[player_tooltip player_id="270515" first="Amir" last="Cameron"] QB James Madison 2023
Cameron is a player I watched on film before the event, so I was somewhat familiar with his capabilities as a QB coming from a successful season as the James Madison QB. He is an athletic playmaker at the position, and when you watch his film, you can see how he can throw almost effortlessly from any position, including on the run. He has a strong lower base and can shift his platform fast. [player_tooltip player_id="270515" first="Amir" last="Cameron"] showed the same stuff at the event throwing with velocity and touch. I expected him to move well in drills, and he did just that and when was able to get good timing with his receivers.
[player_tooltip player_id="271028" first="Justin" last="Costa"] OL/DL Holy Trinity 2024
Costa was a prime example of someone that took advantage of the situation at the event. There was not a massive amount of OL at the event, so Costa was able to get a lot of volume of work in at both OL and DL. Before getting into the individual periods, I watched Costa go through his testing, and he looked fluid and athletic. He has a wide powerful base and holds his weight well on the eye test. The positional coaches did a great job as players like Costa got a lot of individual attention, and Justin took it in. He showed well in the 1 on 1s, getting some impressive stalemates. The young lineman will need to continue to drill down his technique and trust his power because he possesses it. Once he puts everything together, he will be a true force as a prospect.
[player_tooltip player_id="237021" first="Justin" last="Marcia-Joachim"] WR Patchogue-Medford 2023
The camp featured some good WR talent, and Justin was part of this group. He is aggressive at getting to where he wants to be and can throttle down before making a tight cut which was impressive. Justin is a high-effort route runner who can control his body and make quick adjustments. When competing, he could leverage his body and fight for position showing physicality to make catches. He can get separation and has no problem fighting DBs for receptions. A player to watch for this coming season!
[player_tooltip player_id="260910" first="Kaeden" last="West"] QB Comsewogue 2024
West was someone I didn’t know about before the event, but he immediately flashed as soon as I started watching the QBs. For such a young QB, he looked smooth and deliberate. He moved well with his feet and was confident in his throws allowing him to stay rhythm. Every time I watched him, it was just the same thing over and over. He looked the part at around 6’1 with plenty of room to keep growing. I was impressed with his velocity and overall calm confidence.
[player_tooltip player_id="271041" first="Donovan" last="Deguire"] FB Shaker 2023
Donovan showed up at the camp with his brother [player_tooltip player_id="271042" first="Dominic" last="Deguire"]; while Dominic participated on defense, Donovan camped as an RB. Watching Donovan in his position work, he moved fluidly and had impressive lateral quickness. Additionally, I witness him win multiple reps in the open field displaying his athleticism as a FB. He had an impressive day, and I look forward to watching him this coming season.
[player_tooltip player_id="271020" first="Chad" last="Case"] RB Holy Trinity 2023
Case was a player that I was not able to see much of before the camp, but I was able to watch him quite a bit in individuals and 1 on 1s. He is a hard runner and displayed great balance on several runs, tight roping, and making defenders miss. His impressive side steps immediately drew attention from everyone watching. Case and [player_tooltip player_id="253487" first="Jameer" last="Reeder"] together are going to be a problem for defenses this coming season.
[player_tooltip player_id="271006" first="Nash" last="Rieselman"] QB North Tawanda 2023
Rieselman is another NY QB who had a strong performance at the event. He was accurate every time I saw him and quickly got the ball out under control. Rieselman threw strikes with the velocity at different ranges. During positional drills, he looked efficient with his feet looking athletic, and I assume he is a running threat at QB. [player_tooltip player_id= "271006" first= "Nash" last= "Rieselman"] is a player that took advantage of the opportunity, and I look forward to continuing to watch him.
[player_tooltip player_id="271045" first="Khamani" last="Hunter"] WR Franklin Delano Roosevelt 2023
From what I saw, Hunter looked smooth in drills and competition, ran good routes, and was aggressive coming off the ball. He and WR teammate [player_tooltip player_id= "270482" first= "Macario" last= "Fenner"] WR (2023) and RB Presley Kafeero (2024) are players I was late to observe, but Fenner was physical in competition and looked like one of the stronger WRs. At RB, Kafeero was shifty and could accelerate instantly.
[player_tooltip player_id="271036" first="Bryson" last="Smith"] QB Whitney Point 2023
Smith jumped was one of the bigger QBs in attendance with a taller built frame. He moved well for his size. I was impressed with the frame and athletic ability. He is an intriguing prospect, and I think he has a high ceiling with continued work.
Class of 2025
There were also some talented offensive freshmen that showed up to the Stock Up Showcase and performed well. QB [player_tooltip player_id="270474" first="Mason" last="Cuccia"] has a good 6’1 frame he instantly caught my attention when watching the QBs. WR [player_tooltip player_id="271051" first="Gavin" last="Gatchalian"] really flashed and made a great catch on the sideline that showed off his in-air ability to adjust. The WR trio from Hewlett consisting of [player_tooltip player_id="271069" first="Michael" last="Shlemovich"], [player_tooltip player_id="271056" first="Daniel" last="Lankri"], and [player_tooltip player_id="271061" first="Daniel" last="Karadi"] got good work in. Karardi and Lankri both were tight with getting in and our of their breaks and looked good in positional drills.
