Continue ReadingPiqua hosted Cincinnati Withrow Friday the 5th of November and it was an absolute battle. Early on it appeared that Piqua would be able to move the ball at will but Withrow responded and even held the lead for a little over a quarter. However, the Indians would show why they’re ranked #1 in the region by scoring early in the 4th quarter and keeping the Tigers from even getting into scoring range. The final, 17-13. The players that stood out are as follows.
Piqua Indians
Jasiah Medley 6’0 190 lbs. RB/SAF ℅ 22. Medley carried the offense vs. Withrow he totaled 217 of 244 yards for Piqua’s offense. Rushing for 152 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jasiah also caught 5 passes for 65 yards. Medley is a threat to score from anywhere on the field. His acceleration allows him to separate from defenders instantly. His vision has improved drastically throughout the course of the season. Medley will make one cut and get north and south quickly. Defensively, Has excellent range. Routinely takes proper angles to the football. Loves contact, will go for the Big Hit instead of wrapping up but is a solid tackler.
Landon Hare 6’2 214 lbs. DE ℅ 22. Hare tallied 7 solo tackles and 1 sack vs. Withrow. He pressured the Quarterback multiple times before recording a sack in the 4th quarter. Landon is a High motor player and doesn’t stop until the whistle. Uses decent speed to get the edge vs. tackles. Is a sure tackler.
Sam Schmeising 6’2 223 lbs. LB ℅ 23. Can play inside or outside linebacker. Has solid athleticism. Makes defensive calls. Withrow Tigers
Ty’aris Stevenson RB ℅ 22. Stevenson is a plodder. He won’t wow you with his speed but, he’s a bruiser who punishes defenses with an aggressive running style. Rushed for 125 yards on 15 attempts (avg. of 8.3 yards per carry) Notched the longest run of the night with an 83-yard touchdown run in the 2nd quarter. Stevenson really impressed with his all-around play. He was an effective runner and also, lead blocker throughout the game. As a blocker, he uses the proper technique to lock on and drive defenders downfield.
Riley Simpson 5’8 210 lbs. LB ℅ 22. Simpson has a solid frame and uses height to his advantage as he routinely gets underneath offensive lineman’s pads to blow up plays. Takes proper pursuit angles to the football in space and makes tackles. Versus Piqua, totaled 8 solo tackles. I was impressed most by his motor. He plays through the whistle every play.
Kush’i Abraham 5’10 175 lbs. FS ℅ 23. Abraham is a natural Free Safety! Has the range to cover sideline to sideline. Is fluid and has good technique. Uses backpedal to gain ground and stay on top of receivers in zone coverage. Can walk up and play the run. Takes proper angles to the football and wins at the catch point.
