Every matchup listed here will have major league and playoff implications, and this is overall an incredible week for football. Without further ado, let’s look at 4 of the best matchups kicking off this Friday.
Games to Watch
(6-0) West Catholic @ (6-0) Unity Christian: This is likely for all the marbles in the OK-Blue. These two teams are looking like frontrunners to win a state championship, and both have a long tradition of winning. UC is #1 in league Offense and Defense, while West Catholic is very close behind at #2 in both categories. The Kyle Kloska Kyle Kloska 6'2" | 295 lbs | OL Grand Rapids West Catholic | 2022 MI and Timmy Kloska Timmy Kloska 6'0" | 220 lbs | RB Grand Rapids West Catholic | 2023 State MI are the key to West Catholic’s offense, while Drew Chandler and Cam Chandler are the key for Unity Christian.
(6-0) Caledonia @ (6-0) Rockford: The winner of this matchup will likely go on to win the OK-Red. Rockford has played to their potential and the local rankings. Everyone predicted them to be great, and great they are standing at 6-0 with one of the most explosive offenses in the state. Caledonia has proved themselves, also sitting at 6-0 with their closest game being decided by 10 points. They’ve got statistically the best defense in the league, and the #3 offense. In other words, don’t let the rankings fool you. Although Rockford is considered a top-10 team in the state by most publications, Caledonia is still top 40 with some better stats than Rockford against many of the same opponents. Rockford QB Zak Ahern Zak Ahern 6'2" | 175 lbs | QB Rockford | 2022 State MI will need to play a very clean game, while DT Andrew DeVries Andrew DeVries 6'2" | 270 lbs | OL Zeeland East | 2022 State MI needs to get consistent penetration in order to throw Rockford off balance. This is a very winnable game for both teams, and I’m very excited about this one.
(5-1) Coopersville @ (5-1) Spring Lake: Both teams are coming off crushing losses that if they had won, would have put either team in the lead for the elusive OK-Blue title. The thing is, the winner of this game, with some luck, will be in contention for an OK-Blue title. Coopersville needs to win this game, Unity Christian needs to beat West Catholic, then Coopersville needs to beat Unity Christian on Oct. 15 in order for them to win the OK-Blue. On the other hand, Spring Lake needs to win this game, needs West Catholic to beat Unity Christian, then they need to defeat West Catholic themselves on Oct. 15. Coopersville DE/RB Tim Allen needs to find a way to play even better, while Spring Lake needs to really tighten up defensively in order to win.
(5-1) Muskegon @ (5-1) Mona Shores: A bit outside of Grand Rapids we have a battle for the OK-Green. These teams need no introduction, as they’re two of the best programs in the West with only losses being against top talent. With both teams undoubtedly making the playoffs, this one is for the league title and seeding. There are so many athletes worth mentioning here, but I’m very interested to see what RB Dahmir Farnum is able to do against the Muskegon front 7 led by Dominic Sugin and Dametrius Walker.
