Cody Nash – Fruitport – RB – 5’9″ 178 lbs
Nash helped light up the scoreboard on Friday in a shootout. He did in on both sides of the ball. On offense, he rushed for over 20-yards and found the endzone 3 times. He also added 5 receptions for another 75-yards and found the endzone there as well. However, he wasn’t done because on defense he also added a fumble return for a TD. It was a fantastic overall performance by Nash in both phases of the game.
Corey Vanderputte – Oakridge – RB – 5’9″ 165 lbs
Vanderputte was practically unstoppable on Friday. He was effective and dynamic every time he touched the ball and never went down to the first defender. He rushed for 265-yards and found the endzone 4 times. However, he also added another 61-yards through the air and added a score there as well. He was coming out of the backfield in the passing game and he showed really soft hands on top of everything he can do in the running game.
James Young – North Muskegon – QB
Young is a freshman and he’s learning and developing on the fly. He’s able to make most of the throws you would ask of him. I was unable to find an accurate H/W for him but he’s long and skinny. He’s barely a teenager so he has plenty of time to grow and develop his frame. He threw for 254-yards on Friday and 3 TDs. It was a dialed-in performance where he got comfortable early and started playing catch with his receivers. He’s young but he’s very poised and has a bright future.
Wei Chen – Fremont – WR – 5’6″ 160 lbs
Chen is a fantastic slot WR and he has great small area movement. He’s able to cut on a dime and read the defense to find the open hole in the zone. He was a reception monster bringing in 9 catches on Friday. He totaled 160 receiving yards and later found the endzone. Chen looks very comfortable in the slot and he thrives there. Fremont should keep him there and keep feeding him the ball. He’s a fantastic athlete and is great after the catch.
Mason Westbrook – Kent City – RB – 5’9″ 180 lbs
Westbrook received a massive workload on Friday and he absolutely delivered. They had him carry the ball 29 times and he got better as the game went on. He was making guys miss all night long and he has fantastic vision to find the right lane on a cutback. He tallied over 230 rushing yards and then found the endzone 4 times. An overall fantastic performance from Kent City’s star player when they needed it most.
