Zach Williams – Wayne – LB – 5’8″ 195 lbs
Williams was Wayne’s signal-caller on Friday and he came through for the defense. He was able to make a few impact plays and change the game. Anytime they were starting to have pressure put on them the defense tightened up and would bend but not break. Williams forced a fumble right when they needed it most and they got the ball right back. They scored on the opposing drive as well. Williams had 13 tackles along with that forced fumble.
William Reichley – Greenview – DB
On the very first play of the game, Reichley made his impact. Greenon just wanted to get something simple going with a screen. Reichley read it perfectly and jumped the route. He caught the ball and was gone. He started the game off with a pick-six and Greenview was up 7-0 within seconds of the game kicking off. Reichley also added 7 tackles and 2 PBU on the night.
Clay Hough – Greenon – CB – 6’1″ 170 lbs
Hough made his own impact at Corner on Friday. Not only was he all over his receiver and in his face, but he also intercepted a pass that had touchdown written all over it. He adjusted perfectly with the ball in the air and came down and jumped the route. That was Greenon’s only turnover on the night but it was a big one. Hough is a scrappy corner and gets better as the game goes on as well.
Daivontay Young – Dunbar – MLB – 5’11” 205 lbs
Young and the Dunbar defense suffocated Belmont all night. They forced Belmont to start doing some desperate things and Young took advantage. In the middle of the game, Belmont tried a fake punt. It did not work and Young blew it up at the line of scrimmage. Dunbar scored on the next drive. Young had 13 tackles, a sack, the blown-up punt, and all while they gave up 0 points on the night. It was an overall stellar performance by Young and the Dunbar defense.
