Week after week Metro Detroit has dozens of great matchups. This week, in particular, will be very telling for many teams going forward. From under-achievers in the OAA White to questions in the Macomb area, here are 4 games that should be on your radar.
Groves (0-2) @ North Farmington (2-0) - Talk about early season pressure, Groves is at risk to begin the season 0-3 after seemingly being one of the fastest rising programs in the state. After forfeiting the 2020 playoffs due to scandal, and two lackluster showings early this season, this game is going to be telling for [player_tooltip player_id="30134" first="Jaden" last="Mangham"] and the Falcons. As for North Farmington, they’ve looked very impressive thus far with their offense exploding for 46PPG thus far. Navy commit [player_tooltip player_id="80497" first="Aaron" last="Rice"] has looked great thus far, and I’m confident he’ll rise to the occasion this Friday. If I were in the area, this is the matchup I’d attend.
Seaholm (0-2) @ Rochester (1-1) - Seaholm could go winless this season. As disciplined as the Maples are, they’re incredibly young and have an absolutely grueling schedule. Rochester has been very impressive, they then go on to face rival Groves, then Adams, North Farmington, Lake Orion, and Stoney Creek. All of which are likely playoff teams. The pressure is on for Jack Trinch and the Maples to get a win here. As for Rochester, they lost a very close 14-7 game against Stoney Creek last week. If QB Alex Bueno and the Falcons can follow Byron Center’s game plan, they have a great chance at a win.
Clarkston (2-0) @ Stoney Creek (2-0) - Stoney Creek has a great chance to prove to the football world that last year was no fluke. Despite graduating a huge senior class last season, Stoney Creek has good wins against Port Huron and Rochester, and they have a shot against an established Clarkston team. In order to win, QB [player_tooltip player_id="93674" first="Jacob" last="Best"] needs to be exceptional. On Clarkston’s end, they look steady with a great win against Davison and a beatdown of Seaholm. The Wolves have a massive amount of talent with D1 prospect QB [player_tooltip player_id="30159" first="Mike" last="DePillo"] and Power-5 Prospect G [player_tooltip player_id="30321" first="Cole" last="Dellinger"], just to name a few.
Romeo (2-0) @ Dakota (1-1) - Two very good division 1 teams face off in what will be a great Macomb Red matchup. Romeo has truly been clicking on all cylinders having two blowout wins against Oxford and Warren Mott, though Dakota will provide a new challenge for the Bulldogs. Romeo has a plethora of difference-makers including All-state wrestler Caleb Youngblood. As for Dakota, they suffered a week 1 loss against an incredible Brother Rice team. Both teams have a great shot in this one, and I’m excited to see who comes out on top.
