The game itself was controlled by the Piqua Indians who had a business-like approach to the game. Troy was able to score early in the first quarter, Then Piqua rattled off 21 points in the second quarter and never looked back. The final was 28-7, Piqua. Here are the players that caught my eye.
Jasiah Medley RB/S 6’0 180 lbs. ℅ 22. Medley was all over the field on Saturday night. He rushed 20 times for 107 yards(average of 5.4 yards per carry) and 4 Touchdowns. Medley is the lead back for the Indians and he has led them to the promised land early and often this season. As a runner, he has good vision and excellent burst through the hole. Will square his shoulders and deliver a blow at the end of the run. Will break away from defenders on any play. Defensively, He had 8 tackles(6 solo) and 2 Forced Fumbles.
Tanner Kemp RB/OLB 6’0 175 lbs. ℅ 22. Kemp was the change of pace running back for the Indians Saturday and provided the spark needed to get the offense going. He rushed 12 times for 99 yards(averaged 8.3 yards per carry) and had a long run of 45 yards that really fired up the offense early in the game. Kemp is a slasher with a solid burst. From the Linebacker position, He totaled 7 Tackles(5 solo) for a defense that held Troy to 244 Total Yards. Defensively, Kemp is an Instinctive linebacker that tackles well in the open field.
Landon Hare DE 6’2 214 lbs. ℅ 22. Hare recorded 5 Solo Tackles in the game. He has a knack for always being around the football. Evidenced by his 2 Fumble Recoveries vs. Troy. Landon has a motor that never stops. Is aggressive at the point of attack and tackles with power. Works his way to the ball carrier routinely.
Notables for Piqua:
Gio Barron WR/DB 6 ‘1 175 lbs. ℅ 22. Barron caught a 40-yard pass in the endzone that was called back due to a penalty. The Senior continues to impress with his all-around play.
Sam Scmeising MLB 6’2 223 lbs. c/o 23. Totaled 12 tackles( 4 solo). Schmiesing is a Read and React player. Uses Technique and a quick first step to close in and tackle ball carriers.
Troy Trojans:
Josh Mayfield QB 6’0 180 lbs. ℅ 22. The weather wasn’t ideal for the passing game Saturday Night but, Mayfield was able to complete 7 passes for 58 yards, no touchdowns, and 1 Interception that was out of desperation in the 4th quarter. He also ran the ball 20 times for 83 yards(average 4.2 yards per carry) Overall Mayfield is an athletic Quarterback that can put the Deep ball on the money routinely. He will stand in the pocket and deliver an accurate ball in the Short and Medium Pass game. Has decent technique and sets up quickly on dropbacks.
Nick Kawecki RB 5’10 195 lbs. ℅ 23. Kawecki rushed 19 times for 109 yards(average of 5.3 yards per carry) It must be noted that Kawecki has a 4.1 GPA! Kawecki accelerates and reaches top speed quickly. He gets his shoulders square and is a north/south runner. Will run through arm tackles with ease due to good size and strength. Catches the ball out of the backfield well.
