The Primetime game had the Sydney Yellow Jackets(2-3) travel to face the Troy Trojans(3-2) in the aftermath of two solid days of rain, the field at Troy Memorial Stadium quickly turned into a mud pit as both teams struggled to move the ball through the air. Troy was able to capitalize on a few early turnovers and take a 10-0 lead which it never relinquished. The final score was Troy 23, Sydney 6. For Troy, it was Nick Kawecki 5’10 195 lbs. ℅ 23 Who led the Trojan rushing attack with 85 yards on 17 carries. (average of 5.0 yards per carry). However, the player that is starting to turn heads is ℅ 24 RB Jahari Ward. At 5’10 200 lbs, Ward has decent size and strength to break arm tackles routinely. Defensively for Troy, J.J. McCoy 6’1 215 LB ℅ 22 was all over the field and had multiple tackles leading a defense that has renewed spirit since giving up 28 points to Piqua, The Trojan defense has been tough to move the ball against. Only giving up 3 touchdowns in the last two games.
Sidney showed a lot of toughness as a team but wasn’t able to overcome 4 turnovers( 2 in the first quarter) as Troy prevailed 23-6. E.J. Davis 5’11 195 lbs. ℅ 22 converted to Quarterback and played a decent game at the position.
The other Thursday night game featured the Tipp City Red Devils visiting the Xenia Buccaneers. This game started off with a Safety by Tipp City. Midway through the first quarter, Tipp QB Liam Poronsky 5’11 178 lbs. ℅ 23connected with Jason Rindler WR 6’3 189 lbs. ℅ 22 on a 23-yard touchdown pass. This would prove to be the game-winner as Tipp City would roll on to victory 30-0. Xenia just couldn’t put together any offensive momentum and failed to find the endzone. Even though the Buccaneers couldn’t manage to put the ball in the endzone, Tremmel Wright a ℅ 23 WR was able to haul in 8 catches for 96 yards.
Moving onto Friday Night action in the Miami Valley League. The Piqua Indians hosted the Fairborn Skyhawks in what would turn out to be an absolute massacre. Piqua would score 35 unanswered points to start the first quarter. Jasiah Medley RB/Saf ℅ 22 would get the party started by going 59 yards to the endzone. Another ℅ 22 RB/LB Tanner Kemp would get the next score from 2 yards out. After a Skyhawk punt, Cory Miller ℅ 22 WR would catch a Deep Ball on the seam for a 35-yard touchdown. After another Medley touchdown, the final drive of the first quarter would produce yet another explosive touchdown pass. Giovanni Barron ℅ 22 WR would take a Post route 66 yards for a score. The starters would then giveaway to the Junior Varsity but the points continued to pile up. The final score was Piqua 77 and Fairborn 0.
In a Nailbiter, Vandalia Butler would get a late touchdown pass from Luke Seibert QB 6’1 185 lbs. ℅ 24 to Luke Mitchell WR 6’1 180 lbs. ℅ 22 for 35 yards late in the 4th quarter. The Aviators would kick a field goal as time expired to pick up the win. The Final Score Vandalia Butler Aviators 17 Stebbins Indians 14. The win moves the Aviators to 3-3 overall and 3-2 in the MVL.
To round out the MVL action Friday Night, Greenville prevailed over West Carrollton in what was somewhat of a surprise(to me) West Carrollton kept the game close before ultimately failing to score late in the fourth quarter. Cedric Anthony ℅ 22 WR/DB had a 5 catch 109 yard and 1 touchdown performance, breaking a two-game slide with zero catches. For Greenville, ℅ 22 QB Hayden Bush turned in a decent game registering 8 completions for 148 yards and 2 touchdowns.
